Yule did not like the embers, she did however, like what they did. Feeling better after pushing herself well beyond her limits, Yule proceeded to rejoin the fight as she saw her fellow adventurers flying to and fro like a wacky cartoon bar saloon. Well, except for all the blood.

    "..."

Technically, Yule had perpetually cold feet, but would such a sight not give anyone pause? The so-called princess was being absolutely brutal.

I have to try and limit her movements...

Yule thought. It was a decent idea, if the murder beast ceased her movements, perhaps they would be able to simply gang up on her.

Wait... are we the villains here?

"Well, she cannot claim that she did not draw first blood. This is simply retaliation! Retaliation! Tit for tat! With that in mind, take this! A return favor!"

With a sweep of her hand at the princess' feet, Yule conjured an Ice-field in an attempt to make her pay more attention to her footing.

Tightly, she held him. Even as he screamed and as he seemed to split, she held on. Fiercely. Desperately. As the light entered him, something was pushed out. It was something invisible, but felt and a shudder went through her body even as she held onto him.

She held him as he vomited a black liquid, like a weird mixture of oil, mud and blood. Her eyesight blurred as the tears gathered when she saw his colour return to normal, his hair turning gold, his too pale skin returning to its normal colour.

There was a slight feeling of disgust when due to the close proximity the liquid that seemed to leave him through all pores and holes, touched her too. But the thing disappeared soon enough, evaporating as if it had not been there from the start.

“Oh Astor. …Welcome back.” She whispered, so, so glad he was back to himself.

As she held him up and helped him stand, she also tried to clean the liquid from his neck. Ilusa absolutely stopped to care about everything else right now, her world narrowing to him being back to himself. As he spoke, a creature came over. It was small, but she remembered that shape. Former enemy, she feared for moment that it was enemy, but in the HUD it was not glowing like enemy… Thus, what once was enemy was now a friend, the fiery being healed her.

Then, came a huge cephalopod limb and Astor cast a quick and powerful spell to save everyone in the other zone. Which made him even more weakened, his energy depleted. Definitely not high enough to make another spell. He grew heavier, his strength left him and he did not fall only because the felis was supporting him.

Ilusa did not mind at all. In fact, she gently wrapped her tail around him, as if to reassure herself that he was here. She shifted him, to carry him better and slowly started to move towards the other area where the queen was fighting. After all, she knew that to reach the queen she needed to get closer, but the white mage did not want to leave Astor.

She believed others could manage and in the meantime she also recovered some of the energy to later help the queen… and more importantly, frankly speaking, she worried more over Astor than the queen. “What the hell is this game.” She murmured, holding onto Astor and checking him over again and again, to reassure herself that he was alive and back to his normal self.

The person behind the avatar felt strings of distrust towards the game sprout from the seeds that Astor’s twisted visage had sown.

The Ice was working, this was good. The Princess was unfortunately handling it super well, but that ice-field was just one more thing on her mind, one more thing she had to deal with in a very very very long check list of things trying to bring her down. Yule decided to add just one more thing to that pile.

Conjuring water, Yule threw it not at the princess' person, but her lance. Specifically, she hit the back of D'va's lance and froze it to create a heavy counter-weight to throw off the balance of her super massive giga ultra turbo lance. The princess was probably benching 500 at this point, but Yule figured every little bit helped. That's what everyone in discord was saying anyway...

"I really really hope this ends soon..."

Yule mused. If she did anything else beyond this, she'd be passing out in probably what could very well be the worst place in the multiverse.

Raid cracked a smile as @Rivers Asteire managed to land a finishing blow on the boss.

    I'm sure he enjoyed that.

There was a player that seemed to have used a magical artifact to heal most of the other players in the area. Their magic burned away some of the damage that Raid had recently taken. Raid wondered if it was a one time use item, but he wasn't going to deny a good heal.

He then watched curiously as other players began to use their cleansing magic on the fallen enemy Boss. It seemed they were some important figures in the game that had become corrupted by Titanius' "Dissonance" the strange debuff...

Speaking of which... Raid looked down at his body only half surprised to find the slow corruption that had been eating at him since he arrived here was now taking full effect. His skin boiled and pused little tentacles crawled under his skin and threatened to burst out in various locations. The pain and horror of this was a bit much, Raid decided perhaps jumping into the raid boss battle had been a slightly too intense. He would have to find a way to deal with this afliction soon or he feared it may kill him from the inside.

The Pyro/Cryomancer Boss had been taken down now and seemingly converted into a non hostile entity and it seemed the plan was to do the same to the other one. Raid began to prepare another cautious spell. When a player made an attack on the boss first and then landed near him.

"Oh hey Raid! How long have you been here? Having fun?"

Turning for a moment Raid could see his friend @Jericho Cross, seemingly now afflicted with the same corruption he was suffering.

Fun...? That's one thing to call this I suppose...
    -Raid

Was this fun? Raid wasn't sure, he felt like it was a mistake being here, he was in pain and felt uncomfortable and scared... But at the same time... he felt alive. This was exciting, different, special. He did not regret being here in this moment. Maybe it was fun...

Raid finished his incantations moments later and watched as once again, the aura surrounded him and a tendril of energy sparked out dealing a small bit of damage to the boss. Looking then to his friend Jericho and Rivers, he said,

Don't let your guard down yet, Titanius will likely continue his attack in a moment. Be ready.

Just when you think things would get worse, they somehow found a way to free King Astor from Titanius’ control through dissonance. Iván didn’t have time to savor that breath of relief, however, as with one victory, another tragedy came with it, and by tragedy, he was thinking about how violent the other dissonance-dominated royalty would react to their victory. Thankfully, his mother mentor had healed him. I would have to thank her later.

As quickly as he could, Iván made his way closer to the queen, close enough to strike her. Right beside him was his summoned magical familiar, a smaller version of the Spire’s Snow-Quilled Guardian. So far, so good. They’ve been working together surprisingly well. It wasn’t over, though. They’d need to keep working together and keep doing that really well. “You’re still good for more, right?” It was an unnecessary question, but for some reason, the familiar answered it with the same noise it has been making since the get-go. It seemed that the familiar was just as out for blood as Iván was, though to be fair, Iván was really out to get out of this mess.

Iván turned towards the queen, now a few feet from him, a little uncertain. Can they really do this? Can they really beat her? They’ve already beat the dissonance out of Astor, but he didn’t undergo the same transformation the queen did. There was fury and what seemed like lust for blood in the eyes of the queen. Astor had earlier just seemed bored and annoyed. Iván swallowed air, keeping himself in check. Falling to his Zalrisis wasn’t going to help him or anyone. Wherever you are, I beseech you to give me courage and power to get through this.

With the Spire’s otherworldly purple god being in his mind, the masked illusionist performed another combo-wombo with his strange ally. Together, they were going to contribute as much as they could. Hopefully, it would be enough. It would be all they could.

She had to stand back up and do something, she couldn't let this grief just rob her of her ability to fight and help others, right? Kaede would have wanted her to help more, to be able to save as many people as she could. But she was angry at D'va and right now, that meant that the queen of Falderan needed to pay.

Luna prepared a tiger cannon again, looking around as her arms and legs grew heavy and tired. Who was nearby? Would anybody be able to help her if something attacked her now? She missed having Savannah by her side. Where was Lucia? Was the woman thinking about her? Was she even concerned at the moment?

The king had fallen. Only the queen remained.

The spirits fussed over the entities summoned by the Vambrace of Embers, whether they were a friend or a foe, but the wash of warmth through Ash’s body was enough to calm their noise. “You’re all very clingy, you know that?” he said, even if it looked like he was talking to thin air.

    No clear response. Of course.

Ash gripped the hilt of his longsword with both hands, charging forward with a little less care than previously. His charge led him nearly on to D’vangeline’s lance, but he was able to adjust his trajectory at the last moment, turning what might have been a goring wound into an oozing slice. It radiated with dull, false pain, but it wasn’t enough to keep him from going forward, and for once he had the satisfaction of feeling his sword hit true.

Lucia flashed a meek smile as she heard Astor roar and shout, seeing him recover was a bit nice though. Though she didn't know if he'd ever seen her use the Blood Pact before, she nodded towards him with a bitter expression. "Getting caught like that is troubling for the rest of us. Though we'll always have your back, don't make us work too hard okay?" She tried to tease, but the fragility in her expression was clear, she was hurting, but the pain largely came from that darkness swirling in the corners of her eyes and through her blackened gaze. Trying to move past Astor Lucia glanced towards the new queen with a dry smile. "It's a shame, she is my type, but I'll take over from here. If she does die though, I'll make a solid effort to bring her back in one piece." Lucia offered passing through the shards of terrain as they ripped into her. Lucia didn't blink, despite he pain settings being realistic, Blood Pact was still active, she felt those same disparaging feelings as she did in reality, her immersion broken for a moment, the meaningless in her own pain and suffering made it easy for her to accept and brush off.

Advancing towards the Queen, Lucia's chitin armor kept her protected through the affair but it was looking ragged, she'd need Alice to return and begin repairs soon. "Alice, hurry, finish things quickly." Lucia demanded with a harsh hand gesture. The little girl who followed along with her gave a firm nod in reply. "Organism Alice is taking action on behalf of the creator." With that word spoken, the little girl advanced with a sharp step, a slow swing of her body. With her clawed hand swelling up slowly, it expanded turning white before bursting letting white frothing liquid spill free, from that engorged limb four writhing tendrils squirmed free, with sickle blades at their ends and yellow diseased eyes blinking and darting around erratically at the base of the blades, the tendrils swung towards the Queen as if hunting her with their own intelligence as they began trying to navigate around the shield to deal a direct blow.

It seemed the tide of battle was turning! Tiny bits of broccoli still frozen to her fingers, Janet allowed herself to peek out from the windbreak and survey the scene. In one hand she clutched the healing tag from @Haru like a good-luck charm. She ducked down again quickly, heart hammering in her chest as she saw D’vangeline just yards away, players throwing themselves at the enraged queen from every angle. When Astor had fallen and the healers dispelled the poison, foul ink pouring from his eyes and mouth, he’d come back to his senses.

Janet had begun to join the group, close enough to hear the King's first lucid words, but her legs had turned to water when she saw the form of @Nikephoros crumple on the battlefield. No! People she knew were dying here—and with the information the Witch Ops had gotten, Janet knew that death might be more than just a screen-reload. It meant being trapped. It meant imprisonment in Terrasphere. I hope it’s only rumors. Oh, I hope it’s only rumors. How would her favorite television drama get a follow-up season without its bald-headed captain?!

The eighteen-year-old brought a hand to her mouth, jaw clenching as with every strike and blow the lance-bearer faltered until at last the blonde girl crumpled to the ground. Rolling up her sleeves, Janet bustled over and shoved her way through, inadvertently sending people toppling like dominoes with her Heroic Might on her way to the corrupted D’vangeline.

There were so many people standing close around that Janet had to throw herself over the fallen queen, straddling the woman as she flung her hair out of the way and put one ear over her heart. Still time. Frowning in concentration, she used her Nature Magic to isolate the darkness in the girl's body the same way she’d done with the mushroom spores @Corvella had consumed. “Come to your senses!” she ordered shrilly, thumping on the unconscious body's chest. She looked around. “The King wanted more Dispellers over here, please, quickly! She's fading!” She gave a little eek and shied away slightly as one of the tiny tentacle growths on D'vangeline's skin touched her.

As the Majolica clones unleashed their full fury on the corrupted Queen, Majolica looked at the scene before. Two monarchs had crashed down on the adventurers unleashing their magical and physical fury. The now broken king, who currently had pie all over his face thanks to Majolica using her fight snack for the cause of justice, had just mumbled something Majolica didn't care about. Now it was just the Queen.

"Hehehe, you and your spear think your so special..."

As Majolica spoke, her clones dodged spear thrusts and shield bashes. It was quite the sight, and Majolica laughed.

"Hehehehe, what is a Queen to even one Majolica?! Hehehehe, no matter the rank, hehe, no matter the status, The Grand Witch is not to be taken lightly!"

As her voice rang out, the other Majolicas began to giggle as they continued they're barrage.

"Hehehehe! Here me false Queen! You've had your fun, but now it's time to show you what it means to fight against a Grand Witch! Hehehe, Majolica, Grand Witch Commander of the Witch Ops will now show the definition of dark justice! Hehehehe! BROOMSTICK!"

Like a bolt of lightning, Majolica's broomstick flew to her side.

"Hehehe, one last attack, Broomstick. With everything we got! Hehehe, we'll bring down this false queen! We'll show everyone here our power! Hehehe!"

Cupping her mouth, and augmenting it with magic, Majolica's voice rang seeped through the walls and shadows of the area like snakes whispering.

"Hehehe, you've had your fun Queen. You've caused your trouble, and thrown out attacks like a baby having a tantrum... hehehe, but now it's time for you sleep. Hehehe, know defeat false Queen. Hehehe, know defeat at the hands of The Grand Witch! Hehehe, TRUE PROTECTOR OF THIS REALM! HEHEHE!"

Wiping her mouth on her forearm, Majolica cut a line into the ground with her foot.

"Hehehehehe, know the judgment of Grand Witch Majolica!"

As she spoke, dark energy began to gather from every facet of the area. Apparently, before the attack someone else had already brought the queen down, but for Majolica, the die had already been cast. The magic was in motion.

”Error Silly equals Error zero Error Xtreme Plumpy minus two Radical over Witchy Optometrist squared!"

The magic surged into a point at the Grand Witch's palm.

    "Hehehe! Avada Cadabra!”

And the magic surged out, swirling and howling like death incarnate.

For a while, Lucia brought a hand to her face, stroking her face as if trying to fix a 'mask'. She was trying to restrain herself. The burdens of her facade fading were intense, the black murky interior in the cracks of the corners of her eyes began to recede, the darkness in her eyes faded, and the intensity of the bright lavender in her eyes settled into the usual amethyst color instead. It took a while for her to restrain herself, eventually calming herself with a soft sigh, the gentleness coming back to her face, the hope and friendliness coming back to her graceful atmosphere. "Alice, come back. We need to repair the armor soon." She spoke, with labored breathing.

The little girl seemed reluctant, her flailing tendrils still whipping about the air, gazes darting around to try and observe everything simultaneously. Alice returned to Lucia's side, a bright a childish smile on it's face. Lucia knew that that smile was fake, fake like her own facade, but even so she reached out a hand to pat the girl's head tenderly. "Good girl. Let's rest for now and begin repairing the armor while we can. I think for the next bit we'll rely less on the intensity of wild attacks and take a steadier approach." She offered as Alice melted into her hand, returning to the chittin armor that she burst out from. The little girl after all was still a part of her new armor, arguably the crystalline armor she wore was more of 'Alice' then that little girl had been.

Rudiford marveled at the group's tenacity to outlast everything the couple dumped on them. As a newbie, however, he stayed back to make sure he was able to protect anyone who needed his help, since it was the reason why he was there in the first place, not to take out whatever beef he has on the king and queen. There comes a time in every Celestine's life when she has to wonder "Am I the bad guy here?" Or, rather: "Am I doing myself the evils?"

This was one of those times.

As she sat there, all comfy, with an adorable little fairy servant attending to her wounds, Celestine heard the various shouts and battle cries... the screams of agony as a sword cut deep... the heavy breathing of someone physically to the point of breaking.

Meanwhile, she just sat there. Her own fairy, having nothing particularly important left to do, decided to pass the remaining summon time giving Celestine a relaxing shoulder massage.

...and thus that priorly mentioned question came to Cel's mind for the first time in her life.

Was she doing herself the evils?

    Maybe.

...but it also felt so good. Obviously, if something felt this good, there was simply no way it could be evil! After all, people called this sort of thing 'good' for a reason, right? And if she weren't here, they'd die anyway, so at worst, she was just "doing herself the neutral." She could live with that.

And so, Celestine continued to sit there like a pretzel, as her cute little fairy girl attended to her 'needs.'

Alkaid had been watching the scene King Astor set with a momentary flash somewhere between wistful and impish amidst the heavy mood. It was a sweet reunion, in a sense. One that she wanted to screenshot oh so much. Not for anything too horrible, of course. Just to send later during that ball the King had been planning.

Whether or not that was a good idea when he just oneshot a tentacle for plot reasons was beyond consideration, however. If she was going to participate as part of the King's makeshift army, then it was her job to heckle him on general principle.

Regardless, it was time for her to peel away and do the thing, even if part of her didn't want to given that the target of her spell had already claimed a few among their number. She managed to breach the crowd around D'vangeline just as @Janet Reilly called out, her cards swirling around her, glowing brighter and brighter as she tried to replicate the spell earlier casted on Kingoda. With a deep breath, she set to work, clearly not quite used to the situation.

It was but seconds later that she gave a grim shake of her head, giving a look over to Janet, "I doubt this will be enough to save her. We might even just making this more painful, but if we can at least loosen this thing's grip on her soul..."

Of course, there was also the risk it would simply try to jump hosts.

Alkaid did her best to wave away that particular thought.
