    Time Capsule

Buried under a layer of grime and rust is a chest of promising things. It lays in the rubble of a pillaged camp, perhaps left behind by either pirates, bandits, or settlers. Regardless, whatever the chest holds must be items worth of some value. The problem facing the collection of this treasure will be the sticks, stones, and pieces of architecture which loom threateningly overhead, blocking the possible ways to take the chest.

The space between the wreckage leaves enough room for an arm to reach through and take something out of the chest. The remains, however, are sharp and ragged. Taking the chest this way may result in cut fingers and bruises without enough precision.

Another way to take the glories in the chest would be to dig underneath the dirt floor and, perhaps, reach out of it with a hand and grab the chest. A successful attempt would require a flexible and dedicated person.

The Chest: The chest is made of aged, rotting dark wood. Splinters curl at the corner, flakes and dirtied spots litter the surface, and the metal keyhole has rusted over with a bronze tarnish. The box's bottom has corroded almost entirely, leaving a thin layer of impenetrable steel without the timber which coated its outside with a glaze of rustic appeal. The smell of decay lingers and the chest is nearly entirely buried by a surface of debris and bedrock.

Note: This is an event for people who have yet to open a treasure chest this week (timer reset's on Sunday).
    Last reset - 6/25.

Briefly tell a story about what were you doing up until this point, then, describe how you would retrieve this chest. (300 words minimum, 500 words maximum)

  2. Magi Heart was wandering the Dunnstads coastline today. The girl was still in shock from her actually experiencing death in a video game. It was so real, being covered in spikes and her blood all over the grass. The monstrous queen that still haunted her nightmares. Her parents were worried about her, having stopped talking to them in the real world as well. Why was she still playing this thing? It was a terrible, mean and cruel game. It caused her pain and suffering. It confused her. Wendy did not know why. She was going to bring it to the lost and found at school at last... but she decided not too. Something was still keeping her wanting to play. Even moreso now... At this very moment it just would not matter.

She walked as cute as usual with her white dress and bow. Looking around for things to shoot. She did not know why but she needed to keep shooting things. Keep improving. The troubled magical girl wannabe would wander into a desolate part of the coast. A ruined pier with a old pirate flag flying above it. It was not scaring her at all though. She had experienced the pinnacle of what her fear could reach already. Gripping her bow she looked around for something, anything to shoot at. Then her eyes saw a small shack with so many cannon holes it looked like swiss cheese. There was something she could see through one of the holes...

Heading for it, Magi Heart saw that it was the top of a treasure chest. A very old looking one. Lowering her bow she looked around. There was no entrance anymore. It was just a mess. Trying to reach inside to the chest. She scraped her arm. Making a wince in pain, she tried again. She put more force this time. Her hand reached the chest! Putting her whole body up against the hole. Magi Heart moved her arm around and opened the chest, taking what was inside.

After pulling it out, her arm would be scratched pretty bad. She would make a painful face and hold her arm tightly as she carried the item away with a slumped head. All while not saying a word.

  3. “I wonder if treasure hunter is a class?” Roland said to himself out loud as he walked a lone beach in Dunnstands. Ever since he had come across the treasure in Aceudus forest he had been keeping his eyes peeled for another opportunity to find something special. The thoughts of his previous adventure caused him to glance at the egg he wore at his side. He left the top of the bag off to reveal the shiny outer portion of the shell to the sunlight in hopes that it would speed up its growth. As far as he could tell the critter, whatever it was, was getting ready to hatch as he could feel it bumping around even through the leather fabric.

Roland looked up from the shore line to see a collection of ruined buildings on a ridge above him. “Hmmm I wonder what that is” he thought to himself sniffing the air, and smelling only the sea breeze. “I don’t smell any smoke, whatever took down those buildings is likely long gone…” With a grunt of determination, he pulled himself up onto the ridge, quickly rolling through the sand away from the edge of the ridge. Roland shook the sand off his clothes as he stood up inspecting the various ruins before him.

It seemed it was some sort of a camp, or rather the remains of one. Whatever had happened here wasn’t good as even Roland could tell the buildings had been ransacked and intentionally set on fire. The good news is, as he had suspected the incident had happened long ago, and the remains of the wooden structures were clearly decaying. “I don’t think I’ll find anything worthwhile, but Easter eggs like these always are nice to find.” Roland said to himself out loud as he moved his index finger to his temple activating his investigation mode.

Several descriptive boxes popped up as he made his way through the carnage, trying to ignore the remains. “Nope, nothing good happened here at all.” He said with a shiver as he tried to repress his growing unease. After a few moments he was prepared to leave when he noticed it. Deep within one of the larger ruins was the lid of some sort of metal box. “Bingo.”

Wasting no time Roland moved towards the ruin as a smile grew on his face, which slowly diminished as he approached. The remains of the building groaned under its weights, swaying in the ocean breeze, worse still the inside of the building had already collapsed around the treasure making approaching it directly impossible.

“I wonder if I can get in from underneath it?” Roland pondered briefly before the building groaned loudly once more in the wind. “No time.” Abandoning any kind of real plan, he rushed forward, trying to push himself through the wreckage the best he could without disturbing it too much. Eventually he got near the chest, now seeing it was mostly buried, and worse still, the immediate area around it was impenetrable. As far as he could tell there was only a small gap of a hole near it, that if he laid down he could push his hand through and perhaps grab something quickly.

A loud crack resonated through the structure around Roland pushing him to the floor in a frenzy, “No time!” He repeated as he thrust his hand forward wincing in pain as he felt pieces of sharp metal and wood bite into his hand. He couldn’t see what he was doing but it felt as if there may have been a hole in the treasure chest, and he pushed his injured hand through grabbing ‘something’ of which he could not determine, before ripping his hand free and quickly escaping the enclosure.

She'd encountered the remnants of the camp by chance, having passed it by while on the way to another quest further along the coast. She didn't think much of it, at first, but just as she was about to leave, the idea of scavenging through the wreckage occured to her. Amane wasn't terribly fond of looting through corpses — the bodies a bit too realistic for her to overcome her aversion to disrespecting the dead — but she couldn't see any in sight, leaving everything else in the camp as fair game.

The rubble that littered the area made the going treacherous, but she made steady progress, lifting up fallen debris whenever she could, and using her magic to illuminate shadowed corners. Unfortunately, for all her hard effort, there didn't seem to be anything of worth that was still salvageable, most valuables and weapons having been broken and bent beyond repair. What seemed like hours passed, and most would have given up by now, but Amane was determined. She'd already wasted time and energy on this fruitless endeavor, she wasn't leaving until she got something out of it.

And then, finally, under a nondescript pile of rocks hid a wooden chest, looking more than worse for wear. She tried to lift the rubble above it, but as a pure mage character, and a rather low spec'd one at that, she couldn't manage to move it more than a couple of centimetres before she was forced to drop it back down. She could always blast it with Arcanamancy, but judging from the state of the chest, Amane didn't want to risk accidentally destroying it and whatever was inside.

There was one other method that she could think of, a small space between the wreckage just barely large enough for her to reach a hand in and fish something from the chest. The hole, however, was surrounded by sharp metal and stone, and the felis didn't fancy the pain she would have to go through in the attempt. Though it happened a few days ago, she could still feel echos of the last world boss' attack, the sensation of shattering bones, before complete and utter nothingness. But she had a quest that she had to get back to, and there didn't seem to be any other way of getting the treasure.

So, making sure that her pain settings were firmly on 'Simulated', she reached an arm in, stifling winces as some remnants of pain filtered the dampener, before grasping whatever was inside and pulling it out as carefully as she had put her hand in. Casting an Illumancy spell to heal the resultant damage, Amane quickly made of with the fruits of her efforts.

  6. Where to start...

Have you ever started walking one day, in some random direction, just to see where you would end up? In Video games, it was a fun way to come across a new land. In real life, it was a quick way to get lost, and an easy way to get kidnapped at a young age. In a VR game, however, it combines the best of both worlds.

It was during this journey into the great unknown that Silent Mountain came across a camp in the distance. With no real goal in mind anyways, the shine was enough to attract his attention. Silent Mountain approached the camp, cautious of any living creatures that may be lurking nearby. Upon finding none, relaxed and was able to search the camp more thoroughly.

After a brief search, Silent Mountain found a chest buried in rubble. "Hah, nice!" He muttered, immediately trying to stick his arm at it, only to be stabbed by a piece of metal jetting out. He reeled his hand back in pain, grasping it. Obviously it wasn't supposed to be easy.

    "In that case..."

Focusing as hard as he could, he used the minuscule amount of geomancy he knew to harden his arm, then carefully reached back towards the chest through the rubble. While he still felt the sharp edges scrape against his skin, they weren't strong enough to penetrate his skin anymore. It took pretty intense focus to maintain the spell, so he had to act fast to grab something from the chest.
