    Personality

Payton, AKA Conseil, is what one might call a calculating individual, but he tries to use it for good. He thinks about what he says before he says something and tries to spin his words in such a way that even when he has to say something unfortunate, the blow is softened. He tries to maintain a healthy outlook on life, but his natural reaction to things is to look on the negative side of situations. He tries to keep up people’s spirits around him by warm and genial, even if he doesn’t necessarily feel like doing so, and if that doesn’t work, dark humor usually does. He’s also the one that generally plans and strategizes when he’s in groups, even if he’s not necessarily the leader of said group.

His calculating nature can also be seen as negative: he’s not above manipulation, deception and even flirtation to get what he needs out of a situation. Some may call him a sociopath; he just calls himself efficient. If it gets what he needs, it’s for the greater good, and no one comes to harm, what’s the problem with it? Ultimately, however, it does result in some hurt feelings out of those that realize what he’s up to and are affected negatively by it. Yet, everything he does, he does for those that he loves and cares for. If they’re happy, and safe, and well, even if it means the cost of himself or his reputation, what does it matter?

Positive: Adaptable, Courteous, Intuitive, Kind, Rational, Understanding.
Negative: Flirtatious, Overcritical, Pessimistic, Sarcastic, Secretive, Self-Sacrificing.

    Biography

Payton Reyer’s life began so normally, it seemed directly ripped out of a movie. He was raised by hardworking, middle-class citizens living in Washington state suburbia; before his birth, his parents both worked at an aerospace maintenance facility in Seattle, started dating, and that relationship soon resulted in marriage and Payton. Perhaps a little quickly, but none the less, his mother quit her job to raise her son, and three years later came Payton’s little sister, Kiara. Payton was a good older brother, a mischievous scamp who made friends easily and tried to make people smile with his antics, who loved his little sister and his parents, and would do anything in the world for them.

Their life was happy until Payton’s parents decided that Payton was old enough to walk himself and his little sister to school with the assistance of one of their older friends who lived down the street. His sister ran a little too far ahead to be grabbed, and Payton remembered jogging after her to catch her and bring her back. It was a game that they played at times, but one that Payton didn’t particularly like, and funnily enough, he would be given a good reason when on one of these little games, they were both hit by a car that had spiraled out of control on icy roads during a snowy day. Mercifully, Kiara died instantly, the doctors had said. Payton himself was lucky to be alive, his parents were told. Months, years of physiotherapy were to follow, and Payton’s physical development would be stunted as a result. He would always be smaller than the other boys, and he was already short to begin with. He would always be a grade behind the other children, and worse, on top of the physical therapy, family counseling would be a constant presence in his life as well from that point forward.

The counseling hadn’t helped. His parents couldn’t take the strain of losing their little girl on their relationship, and they had separated when Payton was thirteen. He lived with his mother and the mischief in his soul was tamed by depression upon hitting puberty. Instead of trying to distract himself by using his schoolwork, he instead turned to video games as a method of escapism. From there, he never truly stopped. He had played so many video games by the time he graduated high school (and barely scraping by, mind you) that he couldn’t remember some of the ones that he played and had to replay them again. He got a dead-end job upon graduating, barely scraped by, and never really moved out of his mother’s basement. He paid rent, sure, but he wasn’t going anywhere or doing anything with his life.

Then the whispers of the virtual reality game that broke all of the laws and regulations came about on some of the more obscure forums on the internet. Some uploaders were gutsy enough to upload the Setup.exe for Terrasphere onto said forums, but those files were only up online for a matter of hours. But, it was enough. Payton managed to catch one of these ‘windows of opportunity’ in the dead of night. He sent the file to only his closest friends and invited them to join him, and then he set up his own avatar. Going into a game like this felt like a revival; a chance for renewal. The ultimate escapism from the downward spiral of his life that he was inflicting mostly upon himself, but had no idea how to escape. And this second chance was not something that he was going to squander.
