Personality
Owen K. Oersted has always tried to hold himself to a certain standard; The typical fantasy Heroic archtype he and his sister always liked to read about when they were younger. Laid-back, friendly, and always trying to act like a decent guy in general, Owen tries to do good and find the good in every day of his life. This translates directly into his character for Terrasphere, Ciél, who he acknowledges is pretty much a transparent self-insert with the same qualities as he has in real life - though, he's finding that more and more often his inherent sarcastic side comes out to play when he deals with people he's closer to.
That isn't to say his happy and optimistic side isn't genuine, but he often wears it as more of a mask until he's more comfortable with somebody, enough to allow them to see past the shiny, always-finding-the-silver-lining side of him and see that he's got his flaws, too. He can be stubborn, or short with people [emotionally, not just physically, ah-hah], and he sometimes gets exasperated if or when he gets put into a position where people might look to him for guidance. And, sometimes, as he's willing to admit, he doesn't think something through before charging in head- or sword-first to deal with it head-on.
All-in-all, though, Owen/Ciél is a pleasant person to be around for the most part. He considers practically anybody he knows for longer than twenty minutes to be a buddy of his, and will steadfastly fight to protect them or help them. He can be a bit socially awkward or ignorant sometimes, but his sincere optimism more often than not outshines these social failings. And once in a while, his snark is actually appropriate! Don't get too used to that, though.

Biography
Owen's life was always pleasant. His parents, Lucas and Cecelia Oersted, and his older sister, Lucia, were constant sources of love and support for him, as he was for them. The siblings were raised on stories read from the books of their parents' expansive library, or personal tales the two adventurers had come home with on their travels before they settled down in the States. That... And a healthy dose of old RPGs and other games to feed his and his sister's imaginations, made for a thrilling childhood full of Heroes, Villains, swords, dragons, and adventure.
Spending his formative years playing MetroidVania style games on consoles and emulators, and playing Imaginary Knight-Errant/monster hunter with friends in the forests and fields surrounding his home in Oregon, Owen had a lifelong yearning for adventuring and going on quests and being a Hero, like he thought his parents were. Throughout high school he excelled in classes dealing with literature, language, history, and he absolutely -loved- anything to do with manufacturing, mechanical work, or smithing and metalcrafting. Hell, he even made his own sword in Junior year - even though the teacher had to chop it down with the plasma cutter for liability reasons.
After graduation, he immediately went out to find a job where he could work with his hands to craft things and provide a valuable service to people - carpentry seemed like a good balance of all these things, and it didn't hurt that it also paid pretty decently. He took to supplementing this with a side-job as an instructor for the Society for Creative Anachronism [SCA], where he could practice his smithing, swordplay, and occasionally his drinking. Renfair and Medieval Convention booze was just as good a payment as cold hard cash some weeks!
So, when a friend of his from a state away decided to give him an access code via glitched email to a new game that promised all the things he yearned to be able to do in real life - go on quests, swing great swords at Evil monsters, and adventure with buddies? He barely waited long enough to verify it wasn't a virus [via spamming said friend with text messages until he responded that, no, his email wasn't hacked and it was a genuine invitation to a new game] before he made an account and signed on, ready and willing to start his career as a Hero!
