Personality
A practical and stoic individual, Mathias Crowe (or Marcus Caine as he is known in game) is an individual ruled by a cold logic rather than emotion. Viewing an emotional mind as an irrational mind, Mathias approaches every situation in a stoic, calculating and efficient manner. Many are put off by Mathias's ruthless efficiency. However, this ruthlessness is employed out of necessity rather than malice unlike what some believe. Not that it would be easy to tell what the man is ever thinking. Mathias, under no circumstance, allows himself to wear his heart on his sleeve.
Quiet and solitary, Mathias prefers his own company to the company of others. More often than not, he goes well out of his way to avoid people or gathering places unless he absolutely has to. Even then, his interaction with others only carries on until he gotten what he needs and then he promptly disappears. When interacting with others his demeanor is often blunt and to the point, so much so that many consider him rude. More often than not that suits him fine as others are often to leave him be rather than try to engage him.
To completely contradict his own reclusive personality, on the battlefield Mathias is an extroverted and charismatic leader. Unwilling to ask of those he would not do himself, Mathias prefers to lead from the front, always insisting that he himself be at the tip of the spear. Mathias is a natural born leader and a sound tactician. And while he approaches combat with the same cold ruthlessness he always uses, Mathias is extremely loyal to those whom he fights alongside. It only seems to be that during these hard times that he allows himself to get close to others and the only time he seems to make friends.
The things that he has been forced to see in do in the waking world has made Mathias a calloused and jaded individual. Ultimately, his time in combat what has shaped his mind and personality into what is is today. Mathias is very world weary and very little impresses him. And while he has no love for art, he has a very deep seeded love for music. Most of his free time is spent playing the guitar (or the lute while in game).

Biography
Born to Nicholas and Kara Crowe Mathias was the oldest of three children. While not exactly poor, the Crowe family wasn't to far off from being classified as such. From a young age, Mathias was a reckless trouble maker. Though his mother did her best to keep him in line like his siblings, Mathias was needlessly rebellious and refused to be brought to heel. While very intelligent, Mathias found himself easily bored by school and the pointless work that they doled out. Mathias preferred to work with his hands and dropped out as soon as he was old enough. This did not go over well with his parents, who promptly threw him out. Without a home or education, Mathias turned to the military to get him on his feet.
While at first his headstrong attitude landed him in hot water. Corporal punishment broke him of that fast enough. Through grueling hardship Mathias learned what it meant to follow. And through that he learned how to lead. Throughout his career, Mathias saw active ground combat in a variety of locations. From Syria to Chechnya, Somalia to Niger, Mathias saw his fair share of combat. Each time he returned from one of these hotzones he gradually began to feel out of place. He felt as if he didn't belong among society. More and more he volunteered to go back to any of these places, places that made more sense to him than his own country.
Eventually Mathias number would be called and his whole world was ripped from him. During a presence patrol in Somalia, Mathias triggered a landmine. Badly injured by the blast and shrapnel, he lost his left leg at the knee and his right arm at the shoulder. While he was fitted with a prosthesis and would be able to carry out a somewhat normal life, Mathias was medically retired and discharged despite his protest. Without meaning and purpose, Mathias became estranged to the world, his friends, his family, severing almost all ties with everyone around him. And while he still collected a nice check from the Army, he resented reviving pay without having to sweat for it.
After a year of doing nothing with himself other than maintaining himself, Mathias solicited work for one of the various Private Military Contracting Companies, finally landing a job as a Physical Security Specialist for Global Security Solutions Inc. For the last four years, Mathias has worked tirelessly as a mercenary, taking what ever jobs where dropped in his plate.
