Shana's final words boosted Comet's confidence in the party's ability to survive a little, but not enough. She trembled slightly while gathering her weaponry. Despite feeling prepared it seemed little had trained her to fight another dark being. Especially one that resembled a child yet sounded so terrifying that the voice reached the depths of her soul. Still, the pink-haired woman carried on with plans to finish the mission. Or at least die trying. There'd be no pride in giving up so soon or being a coward. With a nod of acknowledgment towards Cain she shifted position to be further away from the demon, all the while closer to Madison.

What timer ticked threatened to freeze her heart, until Cain promised the healers could easily take care of it. As if ignoring reassurance to painful worries a cold sweat covered the Archer from head-to-toe. Without much of an idea how hard her next hit could possibly be - exactly whether or not if it'd pierce their foe or be reduced down to a flimsy arrow - she decided to prep to hit hard next round. Grateful for such a choice due to chosen masteries Comet settled in her place and planned and watched and hoped. Hoped to be helpful - to show off skill - and that no one died on this mission, for it would be a failure in her eyes if that were to happen. Shameful to mention or speak of. Even more embarrassing if she perished with all those eyes on her shriveled, pathetic corpse unable to aid as anything but a liability.

It looked like the majority of the group had already given into despair and realized the futility of their efforts. Running around like headless chicken and doing... what exactly? Anath could not tell, neither did she care. There was but a single purpose to fulfill. Closing her eyes for a moment as the raging madwoman charged recklessly towards the demon, Anath started to chant.

"Let the world have a taste of your endless hunger as your flame feasts upon their souls
    —Guts Avesta"

The Demon spoke fast enough that it took less than a second as a wave of black fire pulsated from her, engulfing each and every one. It wasn't hot. It didn't even hurt as much as being literally on fire but, nonetheless, they could feel the very essence of their soul burning away.

It was then that Ezra finally reached the white-haired 'child' and went for a big swing. Top to bottom, the axe hit the demon's shoulder. It was supposed to be a clean and fast hit, yet, Ezra realized. Every inch that her axe moved deeper and deeper, slower and slower, Ezra realized. Despite the naked skin, it felt like slicing through a multitude of bodies, condensed into just a single space. By the time the weapon separated the arm from the body, her entire momentum had been gone.

"Your tenacity is admirable, yet pointless."

Despite Anath's visible lack of pain, there was the honest feeling of surprise on her face. "Dangerous..." The separated arm dissolved into pure energy before re-attaching and materializing itself onto the demoness again. "Die." With a sweet smile, Anath took a single step forward as her naked arm aimed at the warrior's chest, piercing right through the guardian, slowing the blow considerably down. Enough, in fact, that, while Anath's hand dug a small hole into Ezra's chest, the warrior woman was simply pushed back rather than out-right pierced!

The wound was bleeding, yet, rather than freshly dripping onto the ground small blood bubbles could be seen floating towards the Demon. She was feasting on their wounds.

Shana, meanwhile, looked in pure terror. While unaffected by the soul burning flames the sudden lack of initiative of her party crushed her spirit even further. She had to get away. She had to get away. She had to get away. She had to get away. These people would all just die! The red-hair, still with her buttocks on the ground, crawled away, slowly.

    Cycle 5 - Ezra's Threat: Over 9000

    • Last 'set' of changes for this Challenge!
      • Supports(Luna, Cain, Maddy) now have a movement buffing skill under their Action list, use that!
      • Cain used this already and has been adjusted accordingly. Since I'm a nice person I also allowed the left-over to be applied as a damage buff for Ezra. You'll need it.
    • If something is unclear, don't be afraid to ask.

    Special

    Certain Destiny
Manifest your Destiny as foreseen by the Envoy of Chaos: Death.
At the start of each cycle remove 3 Stacks of Certain Destiny. If the debuff was completely removed that way, the target dies.

Example: Target is at 1,2 or 3 stacks of Certain Destiny. New Cycle hits, 3 stacks are removed, thus, the debuff is completely removed. Target dies. Dispelling it completely, on the other hand, is fine.

    Shadowflame
The raging flames that burn life itself.
At the start of each cycle apply 1 stack of Shadowflame for each stack of Shadowflame.
At the start of each cycle deal 10 damage and reduce max health by 10 for each stack of Shadowflame.
Damage suffered by Shadowflame removes 1 stack of Certain Destiny with the same ruling as Certain Destiny. Note: Always 1 stack regardless of how much Shadowflame.

    Bleed
Can only be removed by receiving a heal that heals 50 or more HP.

As the blackened wave of fire spread out from the demoness, Madison instinctively put her arms up to protect her face.

Yeah, she knew it was a bad idea, but she didn't have much of a choice. But as the fire washed over her, she was surprised to find that her skin wasn't peeling away and her clothes turning to ash. No; this was a completely foreign kind of fire. One whose flames licked at something else entirely. She didn't know what; but whatever it was, there was a growing ache somewhere deep inside her body.

The plagueslinger flipped open her UI to find that she and several others had yet another status effect stapled to them. Madison growled and winced as the pain in her body flared up. Shutting down her UI, she decided she had to act now.

Throwing her hands into the thick tufts of moss at her feet, Madison closed her eyes and pictured herself, Comet, and Ezra. The clocks were ticking down over their heads, but she could only fully save herself and the Death Night. Her mind fully focused on the task, she commanded the green to pull the magic of this scrawny pale bitch--the demoness, not Madison herself--out of the bodies and souls of the adventurers.

She hoped Cain could take care of himself and the others.

As nature did her bidding, she cracked an eye open and glanced at Shana. The girl was scooting backwards on her butt, getting dirt stains on her priestess clothes.

"Where the fuck're you going," the druidess spat through clenched teeth. "We need your help here!"

...or else what? Aalam puts an arrow between her eyes for bailing on the job? Luna blasts a hole through her chest? The witch allows herself to be overcome by Baal so she can go on a rampage and destroy everything the ginger holds dear?

No. Or else they all die. Rather unceremoniously, at that.

"Do you know magic? Nature magic to help me out? White magic to heal the one in the armor? Anything?"

Madison looked back at the work she had already done restoring the land. Pulling the dark magic that corrupted her friends and comrades had already begun withering the green into ashen husks.

"You're going to die if I can't dispel you," she said as a sort of last-ditch plea. "Get your ass back here and help me sustain the green!"

Were they fragmented? Or were they simply preparing? Only Ezra charged into the fray, spurred by Cain’s words. Her Guardian Spirit shadowed her movements, shielding her from incoming blows, but it was still insufficient to negate the colossal wave of flame that coated the area. Darkness poured over the world, and the midnight haired muse grimaced as his suit writhed, ecstatic at the madness that had infected its host.

But it was naught but a flesh wound, a meager infection compared to the burning brand of hatred that was beginning to consume him.

What the fuck was this? He had signed up expecting people who knew what they were doing. He had joined up expecting some level of competency. But on the first round, the round where they were all free to go ham because of their high HP values, the only person who went in for the attack was the tank? Luna fiddled with sticks and shit, Aalam and Comet had ghosted on them, while Shana, who shouldn’t even BE HERE, was flat on her ass and panicking out of her mind? This wasn’t a fucking assassination mission that featured questionable morals. This was a goddamn boss fight against a demon lord that espoused destruction and slaughter! What the HELL were they doing?

As Ezra tumbled back, the phantasmal choir writhed around her once more, a solemn war beat steadying the warrior, pushing her forwards unto destruction, turning red as music became the blood in her veins.

    Breathe.

    Focus.

    Rein yourself in.

“Shana! Stop dawdling and get moving to Madison!” Cain’s voice rang out loud and clear above the carnage, azure ripples bursting to life as moonlit radiance burst from his ethereal banner. “The battle is not lost, and the situation is not grim at all! To give up now means the destruction of all that you hold dear! To give up now means that Baal grows ever stronger! What we have done was not the opening act! What we have done was a mere prologue, so now… BEAR WITNESS TO THE MIGHT OF THE IMMORTALS!”

He took a step back, pointing the tip of his flagpole towards the Envoy of Chaos and Burning Bullshit.

“Aalam, Luna, Comet, Ezra! Let’s see you draw some blood!”

And thus, the next avatar of destruction that Cain selected was made clear, crystals of infected silver shimmering over Aalam’s arrowhead as fey spirits swirled, ready to guide the path of his bolt.

That…that wasn’t what human flesh felt like.

Ezra knew the weight of her weapon. She knew how much strength she would have to exert to swing with maximum efficiency. And she knew what it felt like to carve through human flesh, animal flesh, bones, blubber, and slime. The weight behind her swing, the slice of her blade as it cut down through the girl’s flesh, severing her arm, was unlike anything she had ever felt before during her time playing TerraSphere.

The Death Knight swallowed her revulsion and a tiny kernel of fear blossomed in her gut.

Her courage faltered under the sweet smile that Anath gave her before blasting her with flames and shoving her away. Ezra’s guardian tried to block most of the damage but was blown away by the absolute overwhelming power that battered against both warriors. And only when Ezra glanced around, looking for the summon, did she feel the sudden sharp sting of a wound in her midsection.

Bright red blood dribbled from the open hole in her sternum and she had to wonder how the fuck she wasn’t face-down on the ground, dead. She swallowed, trying to steel her nerves before she glanced back up at the demon and the tiny crimson bubbles that floated forward toward her. And they were coming from Ezra’s sternum.

Okay, so this thing could heal from damaging the party. Great. Absolutely….great.

Still feeling the energy from Cain’s buff pulsing through her, Ezra could only charge back in with another wild swing of her ax aimed at the demon before her. If that little bitch’s arm could detach and regrow, the Death Knight wondered if her head could do the same.

He was still aiming when she has spoken it sounded like one word but yet to head it spoken out loud was painful. Like knowledge that a person wasn’t supposed to know and words that a man wasn’t supposed to hear ever. A combination of madness and pain as a language and this was something that he was going to need to bring the drink out for. He has been holding off on it because of Ezra, but he was holding his arm now to stop the shakes. Whatever resolve he had that was keeping the bottle away from his mouth was also being stretched in the face of for less of a better word. Just pure evil, so he popped open his flask and knocked half of it back feeling that wonderful burn work its way down his throat. And the clarity that came along with the drink, he could focus now the buzz was back after all. However, he was so deep into his bottle that he didn’t see the fire coming, but he felt it as it burned his souls. It was a different type of pain this one wasn’t of the body, but it was like all his nerves were on fire thought out his body. Gritting his teeth as he fell to his knees his nails craving out a splinter of the wood a nail cutting his finger drawing a red line on the black. But he had felt pain before, and this was nothing new after all he had been once cleaved in twine and then saw the beauty of the dawn. Pulling himself to his feet and looking down at the battlefield and he saw something that would not stand. Not in this life or any other and his hand clenched around his bow the wood groaning his grip.

Aalam would have to hell to pay when this was all over, but by hell, he was going to make sure that the person to write it up was still alive. So he got to the highest point he could on the structure and aimed down at the field below him. So he took a breath while he listens to the songs around him, as the wind blew past him. He was listening for a song that he already knew was playing. He and the man might not be friends or even close, but they had worked together long enough for him to recognize that song on the wind. A hungry grin was working its way onto his face as he found it his shot, so he let his arrows fly two aim right into the chest of the demon. A single word escaping from his lips "Aye"

Being hit by things was never nice, at least not if your name was Luna and you were wearing what was essentially black scraps that somehow made it easier to take damage, probably through some strange dissonance magic. She winced and grunted as she shambled her way back, away from the demoness, now that she'd created a cover of plantlife to help her and @Madison Freebird more. Even if they were nowhere near each other now, she could still help out however she could.

And that meant firing at the demon, for whatever that would entail. She could worry about the awful countdown timer looming over her later, for when she wasn't concerned with the very real and approaching death.

A green crackling light appeared at her staff as she focused, before the sky suddenly shone bright with energy as Luna called down a skystrike on Anath, the magic weaved in such a way that it would restore the life to the ground it struck, in an attempt to mitigate the damage that she did.

"I'm not letting you down, Cain!" she let her teammate know, since he most likely wouldn't hear her promise, through action more so than words. Though first she made it known to Madison and Luna that she felt grateful for their actions as healers working on trying to get that steady depletion subtracted from an already complicated equation. "Thank you Luna, Madison... thank you." while steadying her trembling hands, stiffening once in the perfect stance, her mind replaying possible scenarios over and over again; she managed the quick, but sincere statement.

Emerald eyes settled on critical areas that Anath may have despite the fact the demon wasn't alike any other enemy she'd fought before. When it came to Comet's turn the pink-haired woman was forced to pick one of these options on whim. Hope surged more powerfully than before. Waiting, watching, hoping: her actions for the past few rounds finally added up to her moment. The first attack. Her jaw clenched, and chest swelled up as the arrow flew through the air. Anything could go wrong even with a planned attack. Whether or not she let everyone down - mostly herself - depended on the next few seconds. When another, another, and another followed in suit after the first arrow nearly flawless regarding method, Comet knew Anath couldn't possibly be prepared for what she'd served from afar. A hard hit. A heavy blow. Deadly, deeply penetrating arrows made their mark enough to satisfy the Archer.

img Like worms, they continued to struggle. Hoping to avoid the unavoidable. Anath could see it in their eyes. Their fear, washed away, hope starting taking its roots. But hope was only an illusion. Did they not realize that Anath, the Envoy of Chaos, the Original Sin, Baal's most loyal subject and Conquerer of the Black Sun, was merely toying with them?

    Pathetic.

The 'little girl' blocked Ezra's attack with one hand, seemingly uncaring about the metal digging into the demon's palm. Unlike before, this strike carried way less gusto. Then, an arrow struck her shoulder, followed by a pin-point sky-strike that barely grazed the other woman. Countless little jabs, all aimed at her.

Not enough to kill her, yet, enough to make her frown a bit. Enough to consider her mortality for just a split-second. Enough for Anath to back off from Ezra as she pulled out her arrow. And just like before, the various wounds and burn-marks were slowly regenerating. Just how many bodies and souls had Kriemhild sacrificed to shape this one?

    "Death draws near..."

Anath whispered a bored tone, not admitting that with the chant she was about to do now she acknowledged the Heroes just a bit more.

"Reveal yourself, O avatar of Gluttony! Shed pride and cast aside worldly wisdom as you quench your voracious appetite, drowning in pleasures unbound!"

A short pause. A second song.

"Come forth, Sloth! Heed not the call of labor and hoard your unearned riches as you waste away in unending slumber!"

    Two of her loyal Seven.

Anath's own body had been shaped out of countless sacrifices. Yet, for Sloth and Gluttony, the Witch of Entropy had assured her of two suitable hosts.

Two bodies, one once mutilated, the other once burnt, now fresh as ever, rose from the shadows. Two young girls, once serving as an anchor to keep away what was now puppeting them. Two young girls, already dead and beyond redemption. Lifeless husks controlled by a more sinister source.

    Urgh, I don't wanna~~

'Sloth' had her arms up in the air as a dark energy wave pushed through everybody. Yet, she seemed to prepare something bigger, a small ball of twisted energy slowly forming inside her hands...

    FOOOD! DELICIOUS!

The other eyed the delicious Luna. Opening her tiny mouth, it was in that moment that Luna felt like something had just taken a bite out of her. A tiny bit. Yet, everything looked normal. A second one. A third one. Chomp. Chomp. Chomp. It became an experience akin to countless little insects ripping tiny little bits from her skin. Om nom nom.

But what would happen once Gluttony started chewing?

Lastly, Anath remembered that other henchmen the Witch had told her about. An immortal girl touched by Baal upon her pseudo-death. Her mind, once clouded, had now just a single purpose. What was her name again? Ah, right.

    "NYX! Do it!"

Nyx had been waiting. She had been hiding. She had been anticipating. Barely able to hold in her urges. Blood. Sweet. Slaughter. Blood. Red. Warm. Blood. Mother. Useful. Blood. Kill. Red. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood.

And then she heard her new Master call out her name. The sign. There was already blood, she simply had to follow the trail! From the shadows, she had been watching. Now, she was running. Closer, closer, closer and...

    STAB

    He... hehehe.... hehehehehe....

    Stab. Stab. Stab.

Her knives were mere tooth-picks in comparison to the Deathknight defenses she was targeting, but they got their job done regardless...

Anath was now, once more, undoubtedly assured of her victory. Any more, and she'd make a laughing stock out of herself. Even in her weakened state, struggling against mere sheep was unforgivable.

It was in that moment, that the thought of death hit her once again. This time, in form of Comet's arrow.

    "...Uh?"

Comet's projectile had flown fair and just. Breaking the laws of physic, it was more akin to a bullet. Penetrating. Deadly. Surprising.

    "U---uhhh?"

    Hurtful.

    "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"

There was a hole in her face. A hole that had blinded one of her eyes and went right through. A hole that did not close immediately! Anath considered once more, for more than just a split-second, that she could actually be undone. If they managed two or three more hits of such strength, she'd actually be defeated!

    Unthinkable.
    Absolutely unthinkable.

She stopped thinking about keeping face.
She stopped thinking about keeping style.
She stopped thinking about playing it cool.

"The Sun has set on this mortal world. Make peace with your end, for the hour of death is nigh." Her voice carried no emotion. Her spell had no deeper thought.

She stopped thinking. She stopped thinking. She stopped thinking.

    Instinct took over.
    The Beast had awoooken.
A light, crimson, fog rose from the ground.
    The air, tasting like blood.
    The sun, turning pitch black.

    Anath was surging with power.

She had done so much, yet so little. The Envoy of Chaos next target was already clear: Crooking her head, a very pissed one-eyed demon stared at Comet.

The girl who fired an arrow that could pierce the heavens found herself unable to move. Her body would not listen.

And, despite all this, there was Shana, still. Who materialized a sword from flames as she pointed at Anath. Having taken new Courage from the raven-haired druid and the midnight-haired muse.

Madison, Cain, thank you. You're right. LET'S FIGHT UNTIL THE BITTER END!

    They continued to struggle.

Damage suffered by Shadowflame removes 1 stack of Certain Destiny. Note: Always 1 stack regardless of how much Shadowflame.

    Bleed
Can only be removed by receiving a heal that heals 50 or more HP.

Twice he put two nice shots in the demon’s chest, it might not have put her down, but she would feel that one for days after all. The creature might be a demon, but it seemed to still have a physical body and well as long as Ezra was that close he wasn’t going to allow her to stand without cover. What type of support would he be in that case, after all, there were only a few things that he was good at and this was one of them.

However, it seemed that he still couldn’t do the proper amount of damage to slow her down. Damn, his hand moved to his ear to touch the twin studs that he always carried now. He could feel the power that was in those two little orbs, and if he was to use them just right it could change the course of the battle, but it was a Hail Mary. And well it wasn’t time to call down a maiden’s power not just yet. It was going to be close they couldn’t keep putting it off if Anath was to win, that would be a problem for the country. He still had a purpose even if the country was in the middle of a civil war.

However, there was enough damage done to push her to the danger zone. She as hurting, and scared enough to call in help. One was directly on the side of him while the other was a few paces away, what was with demons and using the body of little girls? Tossing up an arrow into the air and pulling another quickly from his quiver and taking aim at the back of the child’s head. He had been willing to kill a child before when she was innocent, this was a monster wearing a human’s skin. He had no problems killing this and would take great joy in doing so. So as the creature moved to look attack Luna and the arrow was drawn to its full strength. He waited for the second arrow to reach eye height before he let the first go. Grabbing the second arrow out the air and making it follow the path of the first both break off into the child’s spine. It wasn’t enough to kill her, but it would be enough to cripple her for the most part. “She still lives couldn’t bring her down.” Grabbing another arrow as he started to haul ass to the next building, sloth was still up, Anath was still up, and he needed to get the next shot. Resting against what might have been a home once and looking over the wooden remains. “And Cain don’t you dare tell Gwyn about this you hear me?”

Shana's newfound resolve should've been enough to turn the tide of battle.

Hopes and Dreams should've started playing. Maddy had it cued up in her mind and ready to go and everything.

The dense crimson fog and the arrival of three new tiny demonic girls signaled that they were nowhere near finished with the fight.

Nega-Nyx, Nom Nom, and Maddy's Favorite Sin immediately went to work. The murderous little fae started stabbing away at Ezra, her little ice pick daggers furiously finding the cracks in the Death Knight's armor. Gluttony just... stood there, creepily staring at Luna, and made these sort of chewing motions with her mouth, like a cow working a thick wad of cud.

Madison reached out to scream something at the women when a wave of indescribable energy hit her like a truck, nearly knocking her to the ground.

That got her head back in the game.

Lucia's girls would be fine. This wasn't anything they couldn't handle. Otherwise, what good were they to the necromancer?

The dark druidess focused on her half of the battlefield. Cain had Luna covered, and Ezra had been completely dispelled. That left Comet and Shana. And since the redheaded priestess found the nerve to pull her weight (FINALLY), Madison returned the favor.

Glowing numbers next to the two ladies' names told Madison what she already knew--time was almost up for the pair of them. She looked around at the sprawling green at her feet, already diminished from absorbing the dark energy that flowed through the adventurer's bodies and scarred their souls.

She just hoped it would be enough to purge the evil from Shana and Comet.

Reaching out with gloved hands, she latched onto the wisps of living energy that wove through the moss and briars at her feet before channeling them into the two women, intent on ripping them free from the demoness's clutches once and for all.

    They could repay her later.

Ezra had been so engaged with trying to cleave through the child demon in front of her that he hadn’t heard the other child demon running up behind her. One minute she was preparing another downward hack into the flesh-not-flesh of the creature in front of her and the next, there were tiny pin-pricks of pain that danced across her lower back, kidneys, and spine.

She cried out in pain, her figure lurching forward to get away from it. The little girl continued to pummel her, a few hits glancing off her armor, for which Ezra was happy, but the damage had already been done. She took a glance at her feet and noticed the droplets of blood staining the blackened earth. As much as Madison and Luna tried to regrow it, tried to get mana pumping through the veins of the earth so that it could be another ally for them to call upon, it was hard to determine if it was working on not.

Grinding her molars, Ezra spun around with ax in hand and sliced into the smaller girl’s shoulder. She didn’t want to give Anath her back, but she had to take care of this smaller problem first. The blade of her ax glinted in the low, crimson light before it sunk into her collarbone, peeling flesh away from the wound and carving a deep gash.

Madison clearing her counter wasn't shocking, but also deciding to aid Shana was. She felt happy that the healer took the redhead child into account. Helpful or not, Comet knew she'd have done the same but sooner because children often couldn't do much on their own. No matter their origin. These vessels appearing younger for demons to manipulate through possession weren't the same. Therefore, piercing Sloth hardly meant a thing. Derived from bitter emotion that her feet were planted firmly in the ground.

Only numb arms could move to deliver a powerful blow with the bow held tightly by sweat-coated, trembling hands. Anath's resentment towards her - and the ability to cease any sort of movement to make safe distance from the demon - due to the strong, unexpected hit brought a curl to Comet's lips. But the rest of her body paled alongside such confidence.

Still, she felt herself enlightened after dealing enough damage to bring attention. Rather than cower underneath Anath she rose to the challenged. Stared with amused emerald eyes glimmering like never before. Fear may have had some sort of control, but courage overpowered more than anything else. And it showed.

"Only a little more will bring Sloth down!"
she called out to her readied teammates, smirk growing as her weapon was cautiously lowered. What damage came next may be devastating yet Comet felt ready to take whatever would come her way.
