Seth enjoyed these quiet days under the sun. Above him the sky was a clear blue and the sunlight enveloped his body in its warmth like a blanket. He continued to bask in its radiant glory while letting the world around him pass by until he was met with urgent cries for help. Immediately Seth was on his feet and going to the source of the sound. It was a group of men in uniform looking towards the sea as they prepared small dingy boats near the harbor. He looked in the direction they were shouting and saw shocked to find that a nearby ship was slowly being engulfed in flames. "What is going on here?" The men looked at one another for a moment trying to decide on if they should tell him or not. They did not know how Seth was or if he would even be able to assist them in this endeavor. Eventually, one of them decided to inform Seth on the situation. "No one knows for sure. We are guessing that something within the cargo exploded and caused the fire. Right now we are preparing to row over there and save what we can." the sailor said. Seth didn't skip a beat. "Alright I'm coming with you guys. Leave at least one man and a boat here in case someone arrives. We are going to save everyone on that ship. Cargo is secondary got it?" The men, wide-eyed, slowly nodded. When Seth originally came to Dunnstads he didn't expect to be thrust into such a situation so soon after his arrival. Yet, here he was staring at the ironic sight of a boat slowly being devoured by flames. Quite frankly he was annoyed at how this situation had turned out, which is quite rare. He simply wanted to enjoy a day under the sun and this had to happen. Was that too much to ask of the world? Seth was also surprised of himself with how he handled this situation. He has never been so assertive in his life. Though he didn't have time to think about that right now. He had people to save. He dropped into a boat with one of the men and they began to row forward towards the ship. "This is going to take to long. Prepare yourself, sir. I'm going to give you a bit of a boost." Before the man could question what Seth had meant he began to sing. It was a simple sound that emanated from his lips with more conviction that what he normally showed. Slowly the man's pace began to increase as he rowed faster than ever before without even a sign of being winded. They gazed at Seth with wide eyes but they didn't question it, now wasn't the time. @Magi Heart
Seven days before the Spider Queen's attack. Wendy was finding herself very much enjoying this game. Almost too much actually. She kind of sucked at it though. Even though the game gave her so many ways to do feats just like her favorite heroes, anime magical girls. It would not be so easy to in practice. She had picked illumancy for it's healing powers, but truly because there was no better way to show one was a good guy! Bows were cute weapons that worked well for her size. Arcanamancy? Well she was not really sure how to translate some of the more awesome powers her heroines do on TV. She did not want to just be a random element or color. Usually the main characters of those shows had a element that stood out or combined all the powers of the team into one. So arcanamcy was what she picked guessing it might be able to do something like that maybe... eventually. A new quest was on the agenda today. It seemed that a boat was on fire and people needed help, and quick! If Magi Heart had not been wondering the shops near the dock. Looking for some fresh produce to take on her next trip. The girl would have never been able to help them in time! She did not think a bow was needed so she just readied her bravery and making her hands into tight fists, Magi Heart ran off with gusto to save the day! The closer she got to the dock. The more smoke she could smell in the air. Some shouts were heard as a couple of men ran the other way. Magi stopped and tried to ask if they could help but they ignored her... wow that was mean! Anyway she had to hurry! Pronto! When she finally arrived at the waters edge. Magi heart was happy to find that people were actually here helping! Yay, she was worried that everyone was running away! A boat was heading out to sea towards the much larger ship that was on fire. Smoke rising into air. This was bad, Magi Heart knew it was just a game, but the NPC's were so real. She could not let them die! Waving her arms and jumping a few times. "Hey wait! Let me help!" Magi Heart tried to call out to them. It was too late though... darn! The fact that people were going to die in a burnt ship if they had turned around escaped her at the moment. Looking around she wondered if maybe there was another boat. Her eyes widened in delight and she made a small laugh when she struck luck. A boat and a man sitting in it. As if waiting just for her! Super cool beans! Maybe the game decided to make him appear just for her? Magi ran to the boat. She made a awkward heroine pose before jumping into it. "I'm Magi Heart! I'm here to save the day!" Not the best intro, but Wendy had not yet fully fleshed out her appearance speech. Also there was a ship burning too so.... @Seth Evergreen
As Seth and his sailor companion made their way to the ship ahead he heard the voice of someone behind them. He turned around and saw a young girl calling out to them but didn't make a move to turn around. For now he was just glad to someone was going to try and help out with this crisis. He sang a quick but powerful tune towards the boat the girl was preparing to leave from, hoping that the song would reach them and help her arrive sooner. "We're here." the sailor informed. Seth didn't have to say a word as the man threw up a hook attached to a rope. When it reached the top of its ascent the hook skidded across the deck before coming to a halt on the railings of the ship. Seth pulled on the rope two times to make sure it was secure and began climbing upward. "Be prepared to take in some extra passengers!" His legs wobbled in apprehension but he steeled himself just enough so that he wouldn't fall off. When he reached the top of the rope he leaped onto the railing and dragged himself over the side. "Alrighty then, now where is everyone?" Normally, it would be weird to talk to one's self but on the inside Seth was panicking. It didn't help that the game made everything look and feel so real. From the heat of the nearby flames to the smell of smoke. As long as he kept himself focused on the task at hand with a few minor remarks here and there he'd be able to do this without an issue. He decided to go into the captains quarters and found nothing. "Seems like everyone is below deck." he thought. He went over to a hatch leading below and noticed that it was stuck. He tried pulling as hard as he could but to no avail. He channeled the power of Muse into his voice and prepared a quick enhancement. With a shout he felt his body swell with energy before he grabbed the handle of the hatch and nearly ripped it off its hinges. "Its a good thing I decided to take both Muse and Music as masteries." Below he saw that fires were raging within the cargo-holding area of the ship. He saw people ahead trying to save a few crew members from fallen rubble. He had his work cut out for him, this he knew. "Let's hope that girl has some tricks up here sleeve. We're gonna need 'em.", he said before descending the stairs into the fire. @Magi Heart
As the boat holding the magical girl made it's way towards the burning ship. She noticed it begin to glow faintly. The man rowing suddenly sped up a little. Yay! This must have been a buff from someone on the other ship! Then she is not the only player on this quest! Magi Heart waited until the rope was attached and made her way onto doomed vessel.Oh boy... this was so real. It was kinda scary too. Wendy hoped she would never have to experience a burning house in the real world! Covering her mouth with her hand. Magi Heart had to squint her eyes to see through the hot haze and smoke that was filling the air on the deck alone. There was someone a little ahead of her. Who ran down deeper into the ship. This was probably the guy who helped her get here quickly. She would thank him but she had to actually catch him first! He really got stuff done quick. Magi ran after him but stopped when she just thought of something.... smoke and fire? This was not a big deal! Magi Heart had protective magic! Focusing her mana. Magi Heart put a hand to her chest and closed her eyes. Her little twin tails flapping in the air as she glowed a slight yellow tint. Even though her magic was technically not based on anything yellow, other than maybe sunlight, if that even counted as yellow. It was a interesting thing that the looks of some spells could be changed to fit the character you are portraying. Wendy did not totally get it but it was a very cool bonus. "Yellow Heart Power! Protect my pure heart!" A small yellowish barrier surrounded the magical girls frame. The smoke stopped invading her lungs! Coolness times ten! This spell would drain her energy if she had to keep it on for a while. Magi Heart would have to move fast. Heading into the ship she began to see if she could find the guy or any of the trapped crew. @Seth Evergreen
Seth rushed forward into the danger, doing his best to not get his clothing caught on fire. Everything was so hot that he was sweating buckets through his clothes. When this was over he could go for a swim or perhaps a bath instead. Those who weren't trapped under any sort of rubble began rushing past him and onto the deck. Seth saw ahead that someone was trapped underneath a piece of fallen wood with two others trying to help them out. Seth ran over and without a word began trying to heave the beam of wood off of them. For a while it wouldn't budge and he was afraid that they wouldn't be able to save them in time. Seth's body was exhausted from being on this boat for so long. He couldn't breathe too well either from all the smoke in the air and his hands were on fire from trying to pull this beam away. Luckily though the beam moved just enough for them to scrabble out from underneath into the arms of two other sailors. As they limped away onto the deck Seth collapsed onto the wooden floor. His body ached, his lungs burned, and his mind was exhausted from the lack of proper oxygen. He needed to finish what he came here to do and bolt. Seth looked around and saw that a good number of people were starting to leave and he sighed in relief. "Thank goodness." He heard a creak below him and froze. He didn't move in fear of what he thought was about to happen next. Another creak came and this time a piece of the wood feel down below into the cargo hold. There was much more fire inside that holding area than anywhere else in the ship. That must be where it started in the first place. He knew that a secondary objective was to save some of the supplies so he hoped that there was still some around that he missed. Seth jumped forward and was immediately knocked back to earth by a falling piece of the ship. Right now he was pinned and he didn't have enough strength in him to get it off of him. "Crap...So this is how it ends huh? At least everyone else got out safely, eh?" Seth was too weak to continue doing this for long and he already felt the effects of the head and smoke given him a list of debuffs. He resigned himself to his fate, closed his eyes, and hoped for the best. He really needed a nice long bath after this.
The deeper she went the fiercer the flames and smoke. Her energy was dropping but she had to keep up her barrier for as long as possible. Luckily it was just on her so it wasn't too bad, at least not yet. Several crewmen passed her and she had to cast a few healing spells to help them stop limping along. Speed was important here, even Magi Heart could see that. Truly this was like being a fireman! What a experience! She kinda wished she had a ax for chopping wood. To really complete the whole thing. No time for games though this mission was pretty serious, even if it was a game too. Finally she reached a area that was so full of flames she felt her barrier almost breaking just from entering it. Maybe she could not handle this one.. Then she saw him. A man with white hair laying on the floor surrounded by fire. It was the guy from earlier that she was trying to catch up with! Oh no, he was really in trouble! A large plank had fallen onto him and he had his eyes closed. Was he unconscious? Magi Heart was not very physically strong... how was she going to drag him out of here? She did not know if she could afford to share her barrier either. Wait, what kind of thinking was that for a magical girl of love and justice? She would do what she had to do! "Mr! Mr! Hey don't go to sleep Mr! I'll get you out of here!" The girl stepped right into the fire, her barrier began to blink as it wore down and her energy for keeping it going started to plummet. She pushed the plank as hard as she could. Pushing her feet into the floor and sliding them back as she made a walking motion while pushing. The plank ever so slowly began to give way. With a loud grunt unbecoming of a child. She pushed the plank to the side and ignoring her own arm pain. Focused on helping the man. "Yellow Heart Power! Protect our pure hearts!" She put her hand on the man's back and the other on her chest. Her flickering barrier returned to normal and now he too had one to keep out further smoke and fire damage. She really felt weak now... her energy was going to probably drop to critical levels before she got them out but she had to try. Grabbing him she lifted him unto her small back. He was half dragging on the floor as she made her way out with him. Hopefully he would awaken and not need her to carry him all the way out now that the barrier was up. "Don't worry... we'll get out of here... I think...." Magi Heart said with a look of concern. @Seth Evergreen
Seth had originally gave in and accepted his fate. Death after saving the life of others wasn't so bad. Even if they were simply NPCs they were too life-like for him to ignore. Guess that's why everyone thinks him to be such a fool. Seth didn't mind that label though. He'd rather be a fool true to himself than an intellectual who threw away his values. "Mr...don't...to sleep Mr!" "Huh? Who's there?", he thought. Slowly he blinked away the sleep in his eyes as his hazy vision scanned the surroundings. The flames had extended a decent amount but he wasn't underneath that plank anymore. In fact, he seemed to be moving forward very slowly. Why was that? After a few extra seconds of dreariness Seth realized he was being carried by something or someone small. He turned his head just a tad and saw the overwhelming amount of bright color on this person. It took him a few moments but he realized this was the girl he saw earlier! Why where they trying so hard to get them out though? They both would end up dying if they continued at this slow pace. "Heh. What kind of man would I be if I let a little girl end up hurt for my sake?" Seth put his shaky feet down under him and channeled one more Muse spell into his lungs before humming a small tune. "I hope you don't mind me returning the favor!" For just a moment, Seth cradled the girl into his arms bridal style before bolting forward out of the burning cargo hold. When they reached the deck he let her down onto the floor. While he did want to be the hero type, she was the one who ended up saving him. No point in taking her spotlight right? He walked over to the railing and jumping into one of the awaiting boats. When one of the NPCs asked where he had been he simply pointed towards the girl's direction said: "I was saved by a magical girl. The one up there!" He smiled at her direction in thanks for his help, he doesn't know what would've happened if she hadn't came.
