  1. Lucia couldn't help an internal groan, this was the second time things didn't work out as intended for her. Things didn't seem to be looking up for her luck-- was it bad choices, or something else? Lucia couldn't get a handle on why this was happening, all logic and analysis in her mind dictated that everything would work smoothly; yet at every turn, either the wrong hex would fly or a different skill would launch. Though it probably was best for the team that it had been so, if Dempsey had been struck by the acid arrow, there's no doubt it would have been much more unsettling then a poisoned arrow. As she witnessed the skill fly, she was already taking out an energy potion to try and stave off the statue's drain.

"Try not to get close, I'll try something stronger." She couldn't help a sigh wiping her mouth of the potion as the hand signs she'd been making with her free hand were nearing completion. She was intending initially to use it somewhere else, but finishing the witch off was high priority it seemed. Pointing her hand forward black viscous liquid began to coalesce once more into a solid object, but this time, she tried for a bit more penetrating power. The sharp arrow shape darted from her hand gesture flying towards the Witch's barrier. If it was strong enough, there was a chance it would stab straight through and continue going in a straight line melting the barrier and possibly more, but if it wasn't strong enough it would merely splash against the barrier spreading across one side in a splash once it lost it's physical strength before melting and rotting normally. Naturally with whatever time she had left, she'd try to make it behind the barrier as quickly as possible.

  2. Alpha looked at the group of the undead surrounding her, scratching her neck nervously with a down-turned grin. "Hey there guys," she stuttered out, attempting to dissuade the situation. "You know, Alphabet Chocolate meat is no good. If you want the real good stuff, then you better go eat a sandwitch or something...get it?" she joked weakly. Jack had told them to target the witch but she wasn't sure if she could even free herself from this nasty predicament. The happiness she felt upon Merkaba regaining consciousness was quickly stifled by the feeling of dread and despair. The fall had rendered her at health her maximum health and everyone else seemed to be even more injured than she herself at the moment. She sighed, clenching her fists and taking a deep breath in an attempt to muster up some courage as the shambling crowd approached her.

Then she ran. She ran like a hell-hound towards the red barrier and, taking out a red potion from her pack, drank it as she sprang forward with her spear at hand. Destroy the barrier then kill the zombies and the statue. Perfectly fine! Super easy, she reassured herself. As she did so, she remembered several essential observations she had seen during her time in a feline form. As she scrambled to attack, she shouted on the top of her lungs. "There's a magic crystal thingy in the statue's head! And there's a giant pool of red water-blood-soda-thing at the bottom!"

Drinks health potion. Attempts to reach red barrier and attack Vinka.

  3. She saw the world go black, if but for a moment, like tunnel vision sweeping over her in those moments before she passed out. She winced, looking around her, finding herself flat against the cold floor. Groaning she pushed herself up with some effort, panic filling her as she looked to her instrument which was fortunately fine. Around them, it seemed nobody had died – not yet anyway.

The muscician felt her energy reserves being depleted and quickly popped open the cork of her energy potion, draining it urgency as she prepared herself for the worst. She was down to one more health potion, then all she had left were the clothes on her back and her trusty violin.

Amalia gingerly assumed the proper position to keep playing, noting Jack's instruction and replying curtly to party system chat. “Will continue playing the same song.” there wasn't more that needed to be said, there wasn't time to say more. She picked up where she left off, playing that same song, doing her best to play through the distraction – something she had to do more frequently as of late it seemed. Maybe that would help her in real life, the ability to play under pressure of being killed certainly eclipsed the jitters of being on stage wouldn't it?

Probably not, but she could hope.

OOC: Continuing the same Anti Evil song in an effort to reach everyone that can be reached. Drank an energy potion, her last.

  4. It... Worked.

Well, half worked. Where her spell had hit the witch, Lucia's hit Dempsey, which caused it to not be a winning situation overall. She watched the others get almost buried under undead with wide eyes, ears peeled as she listened to Jack calling out commands to the others. Nothing she needed to do, except the need to run in and grab Alphabet kept growing the more she was in danger. Actually, she wanted to save all of them. But running in and acting like the hero would only do nothing for them, and besides, Nalani wasn't the type of person to fly around like a chicken with her head caught off in the first place.

With a new flow of confidence from her successful spell, she watched with attentive eyes as she tried even more to ignore the tossing of words in her brain. More questions about the incantations, looking for answers that she had yet to figure out... But she couldn't allow herself to focus right now on what was going on in her brain, but what was in the moment. That was when she heard Alphabet yelling from inside the room, ... I know what I have to do.

Moving into complete cover, she took an Energy Potion from her bag and swiftly tossed it back, scrunching up her face in disgust from the bitter taste before taking a deep breath. Then, slowly, she began to mutter an incantation for a more powerful spell then before, trying her best not to let the simple letters get swept into her spell, before moving around to get a better sight of the statue. It took a couple more words, directing her wand at her target, and then a bolt of arcane energy headed straight for the head of the statue before Nalani moved back into hiding.

    The Collapse III

The undead horde was relentless, continuing to inflict damage on anyone who tried to push their way through them; however, most of these attacks missed. Despite being without minds… the horde knew when, where, and whom to hit, it was almost as if they were one in the same, a single collective. In in that fashion, they pursued the those who were inside the room, crowding around them so there would be nowhere to run to. As the circle of undead tightened around them, everyone in the room were somehow able to enter Jack’s sanctified field in time. Although they growled angrily and kept on throwing themselves into the circle emitting holy light, they were unable to even stick a hand inside—the light served as an impassible wall for these evil creatures. This has bought the party some time to deal with a more pressing issue: the hemomancer hiding inside her misshaped crimson sphere. Anyone who was looking at the barrier knew it was sloppily constructed and would be able to last for much longer.

Since the party now has a stronger standing, they could finally respond to the threat in front of them. First, Alphabet charged in with her weapon and put a large crack into the blood barrier, revealing a window into the hemomancer’s haven. At that moment, she could see the hemomancer whispering something under her breath as she had her wrist pressing against the crystal’s side. After she finished her chant, the sound of liquid being sapped could be heard once more. By now, the party has become familiar with this magic enough to know that that was the sound of the crystal drinking blood. Outside of the blood barrier a large blood crystal was slowly forming as she continued her chant.

After Merkaba has finished casting her “Miasma of Silence” spell, the gas began to seep into the hole on the barrier and immediately stopping her casting her spell. However, the large blood spike was launched anyways.

Meanwhile, Lucia successfully launched a spell a hardened magical black arrow directly at the dome. It successfully connected, ending up breaking the barrier and went through the hemomancer, taking her entire left with it through the other side of the barrier. The impact completely shattered the blood dome and threw the woman onto the floor, where she writhed, unable to scream out her pain thanks to Merkaba’s suppressing curse. The black projectile fizzled when it was stopped by the floor, melting into the linoleum.

By now the blood witch was slowly dipping below 20%, but even in her state, she was still crawling toward the blood crystal. The moment she touched it, it continued to drain her blood when she pressed her remaining wrist against its eerily smooth surface. Finally without her shell, the statue turned and looked at her before the black smoke came out from the base spreading to every corner of the room in the exact pattern the party had seen before. Unfortunately for Vinka, she was too close to the base and as such, the party noticed a status next to her health bar. Shortly afterward, her body was pulled directly into the statue’s head, blocking Nalani’s magic bolt from damaging it. The hemomancer died instantly after she slammed against the statue and being struck by Nalani’s spell. Her body limply fell down into the pool below, making a large splash. It seemed however that she took the crystal with her, which continued to sap her blood while it was submerged in the dark water. Moments later, the statue’s eye glowed a bright purple and stayed that way.

As Jack’s sanctified field began to weaken, the horde stuck their arms through, reaching for them as though they were prisoners heckling guards. Three of the fleshy zombies quickly broke away from the crowd, however, and began to climb the statue, until it reached the statue’s shoulder and formed a protective wall around the statue’s head, but positioned themselves in a way that the statue’s glowing left eye still had vision of the battlefield.

Moments later, the horde of undead broke out into a mad cackle as they began turning red, it seemed they were entering an enraged state and began to recklessly through themselves against the weakening protective barrier. Finally, the barrier went out and the horde began breaking through, intending on mobbing the party of adventurers.

Anyone who had their investigation on would see the dark water labeled as [???] and the glowing red crystal marked with [Active Blood Crystal].

In the first room, the blood spike that flew through the entrance and lodged itself into a section of the ceiling. Although nothing happened for a good while, the hemomancer’s last ditched effort seemed to have set it to detonate, along with the massive blood spike that struck the left wall earlier. These explosions proved deadly to the structure, for moments later, a massive slab that used to be the ceiling fell down onto the statues on the left side of the room. This attack started a domino effect, where the entire building began to shake dangerously as the none-maintained roof began to collapse, slowly exposing that entire room to the raging sand that started filling the room. The formerly dark room was now lit up thanks to the glowing sand. Anyone who was still hiding inside the first room are in danger of being exposed to the abrasive sand.

Meanwhile, Aaron cast another smite spell, which flattened the zombies who were shooting at him, but not before they took revenge and shot him one last time before the holy light crushed them, right in the head too, luckily, the game did not consider this a big attack, however, the zombies died happily, having had the last laugh, or should I say, moan.

  6. Alpha's eyes widened as the building began to collapse and, with a panicked yelp, turned to the entrance. "Nalani!" she yelled, louder than what may be expected for a person her size. "Get out of there!" she cried desperately before pushing an approaching zombie away with the dull end of her spear. Although the protective barrier stopped them in their tracks, they still reached out uselessly. Distracted by the armed and dangerous crowd, she failed to notice as a skelezombie shot Aaron straight in the head, blissfully unaware as she tried to figure out a plan of action.

As she did so, she noticed that the room was illuminated and an idea popped into her mind. She sat down in the circle, hoping the she would be protected by everyone around her and would be unnoticed by the skelezombies. She grabbed some rope from her pack and tied it around her spear and, with that, she got up with a tight knot at the blunt end of her spear and launched it, straight at the statue's eye, like a javelin. Although the zombies were protecting it, the eye still had a clear view of the room and, with that detail, Alpha had a clear view of her target. As her spear whizzed through, she hoped it'd do something or, if one of the skelezombies stopped it with their rotted bodies, hoped it would at least take one of the buggers down. She dimly noticed that the safe zone began to move and, with that, she hurriedly followed it, careful to keep in bounds and away from the skelezombies. Terry, meanwhile, rushed over to Aaron, checking if his friend was alright.

  12. The man quietly mumbled to himself with a hint of pleasant surprise. “Huh. Well that worked out well enough. I’ll take it.” Though things hadn’t gone entirely according to plan, Jack let out a heavy sigh of relief upon watching events unfold. With the removal of their biggest wild card, the witch going on a rampage against the structure itself, the group could now focus their efforts on cleaning up the rest of the encounter. Rather than coordinating anymore tactical strikes, he’d instead nod once with approval. He’d simply encourage individuals to move with a bit of caution while enjoying the moment.

“Looks pretty straight forward here on out. Just stay alive and have some fun. I’m letting go of the wheel. The safe zone is shifting to the left and closer to the statue. I’m gonna punch a hole in the swarm so us folks outside can get in too. Keep an eye out for the move!”

With that? The dark haired support would simply go about his own business. While running forward, he’d begin casting a similar incantation to before. The lines of chanting were more brief however as he had opted for a more basic spell rather than the intricate monstrosity he had used previously. Unfortunately, the man didn’t have enough mana to cast another complex one, not that it was really appropriate anymore given the situation. “Damen sinur idish!”

As the support neared closer to the swarm, a sanctified zone would appear beneath the feet of the undead horde, forcibly ejecting them from the location as he took a several more steps to enter the safe haven. Hopefully his companions had gotten the memo and shifted with it as well.

  15. “That worked?” Amalia said in mild disbelief. Who would've thought? With the pressure that was weighing down on them during those last few minutes, the musician wasn't sure if they were going to get out at all. Then again, escaping by the skin of their teeth wasn't much to be impressed about either. She did a cursory scan of the area, noting the damage to the structure and she heard Jack's message loud and clear. “Ornson, lets go, this place isn't going to hold on much longer.” she told the druid as she hurried to shadow Jack's footsteps as fast as her feet could carry her.

She had to admit, despite her initial doubts about Jack, her opinion of him was starting to change. As she followed him and joined him in the circle she prepared a different song. They'd been struggling to keep that dangerous spell at bay, perhaps this time she could at least focus on recuperating instead of mitigation.

Seeing as how many spells their healer had performed, she was relatively sure that he was probably below half capacity by now even without going into investigation mode or looking at the data available to the party. Setting her instrument against her neck again, she tried a more vigorous song. Something a little more exciting but light-hearted.

    A song meant to replenish.

  16. Realizing that she was as good as she was going to get for the time being, it was time to focus on the most immediate problem of the failing barrier around her. Fortunately a new one was in the process of being conjured, so she was free to move safely to it. She paused to look around, just to make sure there were no surprises, and even took a moment to use her detection vision. While the [???] and [Activated blood crystal] concerned her, she doubted punching either of them would solve whatever problems they might incur, and so she settled on an entirely different course of action; Punching other things.

She felt weakened from her injures, and the combination of poison and medicine battling for dominance was taking it's toll. This was what her training was for though, and she mustered her strength and went for one last push. They had reached the home stretch, she felt, and the group needed her now more than ever. She wanted this fight to be over, and she wanted it over now. She drew both katar, and took advantage of the defensive positioning available due to the barrier to simply lay into the un-dead, using her abilities and the barrier to render her almost untouchable as she attacked.

Merkaba made a twisted satisfied smile as the hemomancer fell into her own bloody goop. How fitting a end for the wretched woman that could never hope to match her. If only she had been the one to deliver the killing blow. The fact that the woman had entered a mass of her own magic source however was not lost to the witch. Alas she now had other tasks. The light around her was irritating to the dark witch. If she used her magic within this field it would likely be less effective due to the poorly mixed mana. Merkaba was not a mage that even considered mixing any elements with her own, especially not light/holy magics.

Funny enough the annoying yet actually competent Jack was using a field that the witch could use for now. She had no reason to not take advantage of his magic expenditure. Following close behind him she would use a health potion next. Considering the energy potion she had just used. Both of her necessary needs meter limiters would be now slowly increasing. Generating her scythe into both of her hands and maintaining defensive posture she would slowly feel herself returning to her former self. She would take this chance to speak with the man while the action continued around them.

"Well you might not be that incompetent after all Mr. Leader. Do not be overconfident, the blood witch may be feeding the magic even through death. That is the power of magic that may even feed on corpses for a time."

She made certain that if anything came at them the white mage with attitude would be the human shield. She would simply have to keep behind him when the zombies and what not occurred. Her advice was honest though. This was not over. She began to think of how her magic may benefit her best when the time came. It all depended on the shape of the next problem most likely...

The thought of using the wand of mimicry on the zombies again was ignored because if they had already broken free of her control they would likely not be put back under it as easily.

  18. Lucia bit her lip, if things kept going like this, it wouldn't be good, particularly her piddling energy, had she not taking an energy potion she would be feeling dizziness after her next spell no doubt, even now casting was a little risky of falling into that state. In the end, she recognized that if she held back, things might just end even worse then before. Steeling herself, her heart among other things, she once again started incantations knowing that magic was he best bet in this situation. During Lucia's hand signs and hand seals, her attention wasn't on the horde and her party behind her, but on the statue with the glowing eye. Chewing her lip, she finally worked up courage to speak with a raised voice. Loud but modest, trying her best to sound as warm and friendly as she could rather then forceful and demanding. "I can't claim to be an expert-- but I do know; The name of the Goddess of Death is Goddess Synra!"

Her words got a little more confident after she revealed that fact. Her hand signs continued as she lifted her hand, her grimoire in the other as she continued. "She can't speak words to pass down her will, her plans or hopes, but i understand some of her tales; how much she values love, how lonely and empty she must feel, those things we share in common. I might just be an insignificant character but I can be her voice and preach her gospels, I can talk to her if she'd only listen for my words. But I'm lost! A hint-- a clue about how I can play that role; what I'm missing that this stupid statue isn't... But since the Goddess can't tell me, I'll have to start by trying to make up for what I'm missing." Lucia spoke with a sharpened gaze, finishing her hand sign she gestured a hand at the mysterious murky pool. Her hand gesture trying to draw a magical formation to activate her draining spell. She intended to drain the energy of the pool, of the activated crystal, in an effort to survive this mess trying to widen the range of her spell to cover it completely for a better effect. She felt weary, dizziness coming on, but she bit her lip trying to use pain and blood to keep her mind focused, to keep her spell active to syphon the energy from the statue before it could do more harm.

  19. Aaron was the type of man who vowed to live his life in such a way that he would have no regrets. He didn't feel this made him special in anyway, he supposed everyone wanted to live that way. Likewise, he knew he was only human, and therefore regrets would be a part of life. Still, when he had logged into this world, and had made the choice to use the setting that did not reduce the pain as much, but gave more freedom of control, Aaron had figured he would never regret it.

He regretted it. Several things raced through Aaron's head. The first and foremost, and indeed, what caused all the other things to follow, was a goddamn fucking bullet. Aaron shouted in pain, clutching his head and dropping to his knees. The world spun and he lost, for a moment, the ability to keep track of where everything was. Something wet pressed against his face. He opened his eyes slowly to see Terry licking him. He wasn't sure when he had closed his eyes. He looked up to see Jack preparing to cast another sanctuary. Doing all he could to push through the pain, Aaron pushed himself up and ran to the light of Jack's new spell.

He collapsed upon reaching it, gasping for breath. The pounding, the pain in his head. Was there a hole, running straight from the front of his head to the back? There certainly felt like there was. He noticed Dempsey striking out at the zombies. He might not be able to fight himself, just yet, but he could help her. He chanted slowly, careful not to stumble over his words. When he finished, Dempsey's fists would glow with light, and she would find her blows were hurting the undead abominations a bit more.

Everything actually played out pretty well. Unfortunately her bolt of magic didn't hit the statue, but instead the witch was thrown in front the statue head, her attack hitting her instead. She watched as she was then dropped into the liquid below, which was alright, but... Something didn't sit right with Nalani. She narrowed her eyes at the scene, trying to focus, until the sound of the building literally coming down around her snapped her out of her trance, turning her attention towards moving into the next room with the rest of her teammates.

The last one to approach the barrier, she once again turned her attention towards the witches body, raising her fingers to her temple to investigate what was going on. Two things popped up, being [???] and [Active Blood Crystal]. Something just... Didn't sit right with her. Maybe it was the matching similarities to her status effect and the thirst she felt deep inside herself for answers to the unknown, she didn't know, ... I really am going crazy. The last moment before she entered the barrier, she suddenly turned on her heels and headed straight for the base of the statue, muttering some words under her breath to herself as a purple shield formed around her. It would be weak due to her running low on energy, but enough if any of the zombies came flying for her for the short time she would be needing it.

Once she arrived at the base, she practically threw herself to her knees, briefly wondering if she would find herself with bruises irl. She quickly dismissed the thought as she grabbed the witches body, quickly pulling her out of the unknown liquid and turning her onto her back, reaching at her wrist for the blood crystal and yanking it off of her. She only could wish that the bandages on her body from earlier would act as enough of barrier between her and the crystal so that it wouldn't start sucking blood from her- Who knew how it worked?

OOC: Casts a shield on self and grabs the blood crystal.

    The Calm Before the Storm

Jack successfully made another sanctified circle for the party to seek refuge within.

Alphabet was the first to act as usual, quickly putting together a tethered Javelin to hurl at one of the zombies covering the statue’s head. She would quickly discover that it was a rather bad hit, but it did drop one of the fleshier zombies shielding its master. The fall damaged its leg badly enough that it had a difficult time getting up, but no matter how long it took, the zombie still tried, purely grasping at the base of the statue with its bony hands. Since the javelin was stuck inside the zombie’s back, Alphabet had a difficult time retrieving it. She was able to with enough yanking, however.

Aaron who recovered from the head shot wasn’t able to shake away the strange predicament fate had forced him into, but he still accomplished what he set out to do by running into the holy light while he buffed Dempsey. The feline woman made good use of the damage buff and was able to mow down three of the skeletons nearest to her. However, their bony bodies made it difficult to go through, even with a weapon, without opening wounds on her hands and arms, re-triggering the bleeding condition as fragments of sharp and broken bones shattered everywhere.

If anyone, Lucia was possibly the most knowledgeable person in this encounter. Her conviction and speculation led her to drain the magical energy within the mysterious liquid. Almost immediately, Lucia could feel her body beginning to heat up as the draining effect activated. While she felt refreshed and incredibly empowered as first, the sensation quickly became overbearing as pain radiated from her core and spread to every part of her body, down to the root of her hair; something was wrong… The drain spell was not supposed to draw this much energy into her, she knew it as much, it was as if the magic itself was entering her by force, producing a kind of pain that few people get to experience in their lives. If anyone had seen Lucia’s health and energy bar, they could see her energy climbing rapidly while her health bar dropped. Once the spell had ended, Lucia’s health and energy have been swapped. Although the pain subsided a bit, every time she touched anything, no matter how light, it would produce a painful sensation. While she was recovering from the assault, she began to feel a deep connection with the statue. Something was inside the thick base beneath the statue, she could feel its power reaching out to her and pull her in, though there was no UI indicating anything of such.

When Amalia started taking off after Jack and beckoned to Ornson, he followed her. Since his magic almost had no bearing on this place, he opted to support the party instead. Though, unlike Jack or Amalia, his healing spells had very limited reach. In fact, his magic was never meant to achieve those kinds of effects anyways, but he did his best. As he ran toward the sanctified field, he reaches into his bag and pulled out the root of a small tree and tossed it toward the group of Undead directly in front of them. The root quickly extended and burst open one of the zombies’ head. That was to be his last attack, he no longer had any kind of usable plant life to cast his magic with.

Finally, there was Nalani who came running in last. With quick wits, she pulled the Hemomancer’s corpse out of the dark water, along with the Active Blood Crystal before she detached it from the woman’s wrist as a trail of blood dripped down her hand. As she had expected, the crystal immediately dimmed into a flicker before deactivating; the UI reflected as such. The leftover liquid on her skin stung quite a bit, though this was after the drain, fortunately. Nalani could feel that it wasn’t corrosive, but rather, its magic was ancient and far too powerful for any person to wield. Before Nalani could go anywhere, the dark smoke began to emit from base of the statue once more, shrouding every single person nearby before he yanked them down onto the ground, though its intensity seemed to have lessened greatly. The attack followed the violet flashing of the eye once more.

Before Nalani could move, she heard a moan at her side, as well as tight grip around her wrist. Suddenly, she was struck with blade of blood that blindsided her and came right for her neck, had it not been for her shield, she would have suffered a massive wound.

It was Vinka, who shakily stood up and looked at the hapless group with eyes that indicate she was no longer there, but had her mind replaced by something far more insidious. Throwing Nalani back into the floor, the undying Hemomancer began drawing blood from all over the room, including Dempsey, to charge up her spell.

While the spell charged however, a zombie suddenly fell to the ground, becoming completely inanimate. Three skeletons also burst into bone fragments and scattered on the ground. The party does not know what the woman was doing, but she was not attacking. Instead, she was simply gathering blood around her, forming a spiky fortress around her made up entirely of jagged blood crystals directly south from the statue. It would be difficult to approach her now. In response, the horde of Undead began to scatter and ran toward the statue, climbing up its body one at a time as though they were protecting the sculpture.

  24. Realizing by this point that she was basically being left for dead by the groups support players, she had little option but to forgo teamwork in favor of self preservation. The logical course of action would be to try to finish the reanimated blood witch before she had a chance to finish her attack, but she had no way to land a decisive hit without putting herself in the crossfire of the magic users who would obviously unleash their most potent attacks in her direction.

The statue would offer the only real protection possible from the imminent attack from the reanimated blood witch who was clearly preparing to launch another volley of spikes. She drug herself to her feet and abandoned the protection of the holy circle to put the statue between herself and the reanimated blood witch, figuring that while she would be forced to deal with a few of the zombies, it would offer her the best chance of survival against the upcoming spike shower attack.

She paused and steeled herself, then prepared to rush for the safety of the statue. She had almost begun her sprint for safety when she saw Nanali wounded, and jack grabing the blood crystal from the witch She hesitated just long enough to see events unfold before launching herself backwards, laying prone again, and coveringher head with her hands.
