Beginners Cave | Page 4

The acrid, burning stench of the now dead slime filled Mahlthor's nostrils, sending his face askew in displeasure. "Pee yew, that stinks!" he exclaims to no one in particular. He tries to wipe off the residual burnt ooze from his form, but all the serves to accomplish is smear it more along his body. Sighing in frustration, the punching mage set forth deeper into the caverns.

The man whistles an idle tune to himself, the melodic yet off tone notes bouncing off the rocky interior and echoing ahead of his planned path. Swinging his pack around from his back to his front, he pats the leather sack. "I wonder what you two are going to grow up to be." He directs his idly musing to the two eggs delicately riding inside the sack. "It would be cool if one of you turned out to be a dragon or something, though I highly doubt it. That's not usually something beginner players can get their hands on so easily." He chuckles. "Regardless, I sure am looking forward to meeting you two!"

Another fork in the caverns greets the man and his two eggs. "Hrm. Which way should we take?" He idly asks of the eggs, as if they would respond. Suddenly, Mahlthor feels a shift in the pack as one of the eggs slides to the left of the other. "Oh? The left path?" He asks, chuckling. As if the egg had *actually* responded to the man. Regardless, he sets off down the left fork, hoping to find something interesting along the way.

What should I do when I finish here, I wonder? He asks himself quietly. I know I need to get some better equipment soon. Maybe I should contact one of those player smiths I saw advertising for back in the city. I could probably work out a deal with one of them for some gear. He muses the idea as he further pushes into the cavern.

The caves begin to go from empty, to emptier. No gold, no treasures, not even any more of those corrosive, acidic slimes! Though, Mahlthor isn't entirely disappointed about that last point. But hey, not even any other monsters? Don't, like, bats and bears and stuff make their homes in caves?

As he pondered these very deep and very heavy thoughts, he gives a swift, idle kick to one of the stones lying on the cavern floor. You can imagine Mahlthor's surprise, then, when the rock bounces off a stalagmite and rebounds back towards the man! "Woah..." he vocalizes, stooping over to pick up the rock. "That's cool! And totally useful! I'm going to keep you." With that, he pockets the rock, sliding it into the hip pocket of his trousers.

After a little while longer of uneventful wandering, boredom would start to set in. "Alright, I think I'm done here. I'm not seeing anything else, maybe we should head back to town." He grins as he looks down at his pack and the eggs therein. "We did get this cool rock, though! That's exciting!" He chuckles, unfastening the bag and pulling both the eggs out. Holding one in each arm, he hums happily to himself.

However, the winding, twisting, turning pathways of the cavern are complex, and soon the man and his two eggs are well and truly lost. "Ah, dammit. I should have brought a ball of yarn..." he says, remembering an old legend of a man finding his way through a labyrinth with the aid of a magical ball of yarn. "How am I supposed to find my way out of here?" His voice echoes across the stone walls, though there is no answer to his question.

Greeted by a fork that the man *sort of* recognizes, he grimaces. "I think we came in... this way?" he says, unsure. All the same, Mahlthor confidently walks down the chosen path.
