  1. She stared at the the strange axolotl for a moment contemplating, then stood up to fetch a fresh beer and do some stretches. At first just normal 'i've been sitting too long', but then she started a course of more elaborate stretching. She managed to look fairly graceful in spite of a belly full of snacks and a beer in her off hand. Mid way through her routine, she answered Akinos first and second questions with a quiet and even tone.

"I haven't come up with a good name yet, and it just seems to know when I want it around anyway... so I'm in no rush. something will come to me eventually I'm sure. As far as a play date goes, I mean... I guess it's not a bad idea, but I don't want to make any promises I can't keep. what if your pet is a bird or something that will attack it? Also, it doesn't really have much of a playful side. mostly it just floats around and looks neat, but since it glows, I can't really take it into the field... I'm worried it'll draw too much attention, especially considering how heavily I rely on stealth."

She shrugged, indicating that it was more an offhand thought than a genuine concern. Her dove hadn't shown the slightest interest in the glowing amphibian, so she figured it probably wouldn't be a problem either way. She cast a sidelong glance at the other felis' egg and asked "where'd you get yours? some lady handed me one for rescuing a different egg, which doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, but NPCs work on their own logic, right?"

That was a strange encounter, but she'd earned a valuable reward for basically just climbing a tree and bringing a stranded egg back down in one piece. She hadn't known what to expect when it hatched, but all in all she was more than pleased with the result. She couldn't really take the thing adventuring with her, but it would have a comfortable home in her shop, and add a very mysterious touch to the already impressive ambiance she had in mind for the store.

Realizing that her mind was wondering, she quickly brought up her palm menu and searched for a moment, trying to locate the duel challenge request. She paused for half a moment, realizing that she'd never actually used it so far, but it wasn't very hard to find. she'd seen it a few times while browsing for the party invite function. After a moment, she sent off a duel request to Akino, then finished her drink and headed out onto the street, beckoning for him to follow.

It was later in the afternoon, and the street that was lightly trafficked on a good day was now all but abandoned save for a few NPC bystanders whom were milling about their mundane business. the sky was clear and just beginning to show shades of reddish orange that heralded the onset of dusk. Dempsey strolled out to teh center of the street and waited for Akino to accept the duel challenge, then assumed her fighting stance for a moment.

  3. "I think that names are supposed to come naturally. So the way you are going about it sounds reasonable. Besides, it isn't as if names are as vital as the love you give the critters." Seeing her rise once more, he'd stand as well, giving his egg another affectionate pat. He didn't want the soon to hatch critter to feel neglected in there. Akino always imagined that existing with an egg would be incredibly lonely, and even a bit intimidating, if one were aware during the process. Of course, you wouldn't be... But still. Watching as the white-haired felis began to go through some basic stretches, and then some non-basic ones, the student would follow suit. Having just stretched, the movements came freely; he especially enjoyed matching the more intricate techniques, as they made him feel like a true martial artist. Once they were through, he spoke on.

"I doubt that such a thing would happen. I'm a pretty friendly guy, and I'm sure whatever I raise will follow along with the example I set. Also, I'm not about to let anything under my watch start harming another living creature. I'd be a fairly poor beast tamer if I could keep at least that from happen. I understand though. I couldn't see it being a bird, myself. More likely than not, it'll be something small and furry. I hope it's a cat, that would be ironic. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it."
Hearing Shifu ask about where he got his egg, and explain how she got her's, the felis' would give a small shrug.

"NPC logic is best logic. Always gets a laugh out of you. Nothing so interesting or strange as that. You know the beginner player's gift they give out? Well, I heard you can get some real interesting things. Some people got a weird glass lens, others received a gaudy firecloak. I got an egg. Which makes sense, considering my mastery. All the other items just wouldn't have fit my personality. Plus, who can resist a good mystery, right?"
For a moment, Akino's eyes glazed over as he considered what would have come about from all the other items. They were all interesting enough, but nothing to catch your attention. They appeared to be mostly items you could use in future dungeons or quests. For example, the rose pin. Now that was something he was curious to see in action. Could you walk right up to a king, if you saw fit? Still, always better off to follow your gut, rather than pick something and be dissatisfied later. An image of the redhead bouncing about with live flames racing around his tail earned a small chuckle, before he cut the fancy off.

The high tone of the notification emphasized its end, and Akino's eyes focused on the floating invitation before him. The duel challenge sat there, flashing subtly, going ping every moment or so. It was quite amusing, and would surely irritate someone if they were getting into the fight out of anger. For him though, this wasn't an angry fight, obviously. He felt a jolt rush over his flesh as he reached out to confirm. Finally, he was going to get to learn some real technique! He could only imagine how bad getting thrown into dirt would sting, what with simulation mode and all that on. No matter; no pain, no gain. And this was going to be a real gain, since he'd be learning both how to fight, and what it would be like to fight another adventurer. Akino had no plan on challenging someone in the future, but he'd better know how to handle himself in the situation. Who knows when you need to set someone in their place, after all.

Following out into the street, he felt the falling sun hit his skin, warming him. Or doing its best to, fighting the chill of adrenaline as it took over. His mindset had already shifted, focusing on what was to come. He'd need every node in his brain to be following Dempsey's technique, to study and absorb every muscle's placement. Glancing about at the nigh empty street, he wondered if the NPCs would gather round to watch the fight? Or would they run off, scared that something worse might come from the duel? He hoped they would stay and watch, though it wouldn't be much of a show. Judging by the young man's sloppy stance, which he assumed after offering his teacher a polite bow, he wouldn't last more than ten moments. Eyes narrowing, he'd lift his fists and wait. Always wiser to let the experienced strike first, and learn what you can. Or so Akino heard. His breathing was steady, and his body still as could be. At least he had that down.

"I'm ready when you are, Shifu."
