Pushing through the underbrush, Roland rushed into the Acedus zone. Apparently, there was some guild mission on going that his interface kept spamming alerts about. "I know, I know.." Roland said as he closed the ever opening guild feed regarding the massacre. As near as he could tell there was some dragon hatchery that was being attacked by something ugly. Astor had been the first on the scene followed by Admiral and Jack on a carriage. Alpha had made an appearance as well, and it was supposed to be a chaotic mess. Unfourtantly, Roland was nowhere nearby when the guild was preparing to leave. It was his fault when he had been messaged first regarding the mission he simply said he would help without bothering to read anything else about it. Meaning when the guild chat began to rant about the proceedings Roland was knee deep in a keg in a small city a few miles from Stockbon. After splashing his face with water, he headed out as he tried to ignore the drunken status effect in the top right-hand corner of his interface.
Luckily, there was a path that took him from the small hamlet directly to the hatchery, and within a few moments of travel, after the initial assault began, Roland arrived at the outskirts of the fortress. "What kind of hatchery is this?!" Roland called out to no one in particular, "It's huge!" The sheer size and scale of the building baffled him, why would a hatchery need an entire castle? It didn't make sense dragons, while interesting was just creatures after all, and who could take care of so many in this place? The thought occurred to him that whatever staff had been working here was surely dead due to the initial assault. Shaking the thought from his mind Roland pushed forward through a giant hole in the western wall, spotting a small group of guild mates already in battle. It had seemed that Astor had knocked one of the disgusting creatures off a tower, while Admiral was busy trying to beat another into submission. They stood nearby an out of place carriage that he had heard they used to arrive in. "Must be nice to live in that kind of luxury." Roland thought idly wondering if he had been unwise to donate his gold to the guild after all.
Unsheathing both his blades Roland strode forward towards the two as he tried to assess the situation. He tried to ignore the threat of the monsters for a moment as he considered the massive damage around them, it had seemed the grotesque creatures had been hard at work destroying every readily available nook and cranny in a hunt for the variety of Dragonling that scattered around the area. Speaking of which, the number of dragon eggs boggled Roland's mind. Simply put there were far too many to count, their numbers edging towards the hundreds, and that was just what was in plain sight outside of the castle. Granted a good number of them were smashed into or had hatched prematurely, and there was no telling how many had been there before the assault. In the corner of his eye, Roland spotted some malformed dragonlings running around frantically trying to escape the immediate vicinity. He turned to help them but noticed Alpha was already in the process of calming them down. The girl did seem to have a way with animals.
"She can handle them..." thought Roland as he turned back to the monsters at hand, his skills were better suited for battle. So he finally turned a piercing gaze to the two beasts. They were far larger than Roland had anticipated as they easily eclipsed even Admiral's considerable girth. If Roland didn't know better, he'd expect the creature to have come from the bottom of the ocean with its large milky eyes, and long pronounced teeth, even their oddly formed hands reminded him of an axolotl's only with claws. Perhaps they were mostly a subterranean creature seeing as their leathery skin seemed to have a natural pigment of gray but shifted quickly as they moved around matching the colors behind him. Out of all the monster's features what was most worrisome was its elongated tongue that it swung around like a ball and chain. It was covered in a corrosive acid that burned the ground as it dripped off of it. Roland had no doubt it would liquid would quickly melt through his weapons, or even worse his armor.
Roland realized quite suddenly that he had merely been standing, watching, the fight before him from quite some time, cursing his inebriation he forced himself to stop his mental hijinks and pushed forward. Quickly he brandished his swords to either side of him, heading to the nearest Orlophos, which happened to be the one Astor had knocked of the tower earlier. It had recovered from the attack and was shaking off the dizziness as Roland approached, he had wasted too much precious time. Roland darted forward towards its chest only to be stopped short by a massive paw swiped in his direction. Spinning out of its way, Roland, tried to change his course, but the beast anticipated the maneuver spitting a glob of acid in his direction, nailing the swordsman in the shoulder, "ARGGgH!" Roland cried in pain as he wheeled out of the beast's range. As he had expected the creature's venom began to tear away at the leather, burning his flesh. Luckily the envenomed breast plate he wore seemed to be somewhat resistant to the effects as it quickly began to stop sizzling with only minor damage. Angered Roland sprinted forth, this time using his blade to parry a lazy paw swipe in his direction, before plunging a second forward directly into the beast's milky eye. The monster recoiled instantly roaring in pain, as it danced away from Roland, whose shoulder now burned worse than before. Roland backed off sheathing a blade as he tried to wipe down his wound, it seemed he might be out of commission rather quickly here after all....
