  1. Upon accepting the request and job, the group of three would be led from the negotiating point at a local restaurant towards a very modest temple by a sweet and childish nun/sister. The girl didn't stand very tall and had a delicate and frail demeanor to her, it was a little clear she was very intimidated and a bit frightened by those she was hiring though. Mature older women coupled with a tall gigantic man, she was nervous and stammered as she tried to explain the situation to them as they approached the temple's steps. "T-The church normally doesn't take slaves-- Honest please don't think less of us for this sort of thing." She tried to beg from the start worried she'd cast a negative light on the faith she supported and believed in so dutifully. "We thought-- Thought that if we opened her eyes up to the Elysid court that she might share with us some of her customs and become a member of the faith. In truth it was only ever our intention to try and understand how they see us but... Uuu things have gone so wrong." She started the description on the verge of tears, the young maiden clearly not qualified to handle this sort of thing but the job was pressed upon her due to the circumstances.

It was during the trip she went into more depth, the slave they'd taken was one with a malefic identity, an Elf born of a strange power. Every sister and priest in the temple felt darkness and evil within that slave woman but... for despite their best efforts to discover traces of malefimancy there simply weren't any. Alarmed and caught off guard, the faithful were determined to pry out the source of these dark powers in an effort to be able to seek them out more thoroughly in the future... before they could begin to force this information from the woman though she had escaped suddenly leaving behind only a few chewed bones used to pick her locks and the warped cuffs that once kept her restrained. Despite explaining how they planned to torture this woman for information though the innocent young woman didn't bat an eyelash as if it were natural as she continued.

"The head priest wanted to speak to you... H-He said he hired a professional and that I'm only supposed to escort you to him and answer any questions you might have about the escape but-- But while I don't know very much, I'll surely try my best to explain any parts I might have left out!" She spoke with a modest bow trying her best to appeal to those willing to help the temple in a time of crisis. Somewhere out there a new type of dark power different form Malefimancy was roaming about and if they didn't stop it, it could spread!

  2. Having arrived at the restaurant early, the man grabbed a bit to eat before dealing with his client. The Felis lowered his expectations of who was going to lead the party on towards the meat of the quest. Not everyone was going to look out of place and marked as the obvious quest giver. Few NPCs were the copy and paste sort, which proved to be a hassle sometimes. Regardless, Alonso grouped up with his party led by a small girl towards the temple. Granted, more often than not, he was the tallest person in any assortment of people. The initial explanation caused a scowl to etch across the man's jawline, but held back any retaliation. At this point he wanted to get this done and over with so he can ignore the face he just assisted a bunch of slave owners.

On the plus side he could trust his party make up. Dempsey had proven herself to be a commendable ally on a couple other occasions. He could trust her to make up any slack the unfamiliar Felis brought forth, although observations would have to wait until the caster showed her own capabilities. A curious thought, however, that the entire party all chose the Felis race for their use. Perhaps it was a coincidence, and logic pointed in that direction. Any existence of magic and fate did not matter outside of the game. Albeit, in a sense a computer had a forced fate depending on its provided coding. Funny thoughts would have to wait until later. Alonso turned his gaze towards their escort, "So, you do admit you left at least a few things out during your explanation."

Shaking his head, a slight growl resonated, "Your high priest hired a professional? Well, if we're supposed to cooperate with this other guy I definitely would like to know about him beforehand. I don't want some nut job traveling with us and bringing down the mission." Alonso was not against religion, but was not about to call himself religious by any means. He just hoped this game was not like other RPGs were it turned out the holy cult was just a facade for the true villain. "What I really want to know is what your priest plans on doing if we retrieve the escapee and return 'em to you," Alonso said. He despised not being told vital bits of information about a job. Bad enough people who requested a program half the time had no clue how programming worked while he was on shift in the real world.

Amane found herself nodding at most of what the unknown felis said. Honestly, she hadn't expected that she would have to work on the quest with anyone other than Dempsey, but the man seemed intelligent and shrewd, albeit a little gruff — and the first two were qualities that she would pick for her party at any time. Though, with the nature of this quest, she wasn't sure how they were going to work towards an objective where they'll all be satisfied — Dempsey hadn't shared her own thoughts with her, and the other player was a complete unknown, but personally she knew she had joined, not to return the slaves, but to free them, unless some information is revealed that would change her mind. Now that she thought of it, she didn't even know his name. When the questions were over, she decided, she'll have to introduce herself.

The elf being a malefic entity was curious — most elf lore that she'd read from fairy tales and such tended to portray them as one with nature, and dabbling into dark arts didn't seem to fit with such an image. Amane wondered if she assisted the elf, would they be willing to give her an answer? At any rate, if the Falderen system was any indication it should give her some reputation at the very least. Helping people, and becoming a hero for another race entirely at the same time...it sounded like an opportunity almost too good to be true. The professional that the High Priest had hired would be a problem though, especially if they caught her in the act of aiding their escapee. Perhaps the group could sneak away from them as they sabotage their own quest?

She started to tune out the words exchanged with the young NPC, her mind racing with possible plans to help the elf escape, before she forcefully dragged her attention back. Though it didn't seem important as she wasn't going to help the nobles and priests anyway, new information could always be helpful. At the very least, she could use this as an opportunity to try and sway her group members to her side. As much as Amane respected Dempsey, she didn't think she could condone and assist in slavery and torture even if the white haired felis asked her to. "Also," she added to the conversation. "What are you going to do to ensure the elf doesn't escape again?" Whatever the answer was, surely it would be suitably horrifying.

  4. Upon accepting the quest, Dempsey set out for their meeting point, pausing only to tap out a brief message, then activated her stealth ability, vanishing without missing a step as the trio made their way from the restaurant to the temple.

Alonso and Amane, I'm going to do a little sneaking around while you two deal with the NPCs. Something about this seems shady to me, and by something, I mean all of it. Dont mention me unless they ask, and if they do just tell them i'm meeting you later and nothing else."

concealed in the shadows while Amane and Alonso engaged in conversation. She took advantage of her concealment to poke around the immediate vicinity, looking for anything that would appear suspicious. First of all, she thought it odd that the church would keep slaves to begin with, and even more so that their intentions were completely noble and selfless. Maybe she was just too callous for her own good, but she found it hard to believe that such a potentially dangerous magic user was being held under lock and key 'for her own good.'

She relied on the disarming and earnest trustworthiness that Alonso and Amane exuded to further conceal her presence. Surely it would be hard to picture those two traveling in the company of one such as herself, a purveyor of stealth and subterfuge. She wasn't as bold as to attempt picking pockets or rifling through anyone's things, but she stopped more than once to have a look at loose documents, or pause to eavesdrop here and there. She had no intention of letting these priests ever discover that she'd even set foot in the temple.

  5. Being under the man's sharp gaze, the poor woman shivered briefly, retreating a step as if trying to make herself as small as possible as if it would help her hide. Her voice grew quieter like a sad kitten as she whined her response half out of fear and half out of obliviousness. "I-I could only tell you as much as I know-- Honest, we... I was very nice to her I thought." She stammered, nibbling on her lip as if trying to distract herself from the man's sharp glare. "T-The other professional is already inside having a meeting with the High Priest; we didn't exactly know who to call! A lot of locals told us to have faith in you adventurers but the nobles tried to assure us that a professional was the best bet so-- So--" She mewled from anxiety, her feet shuffling making it clear it was getting harder and harder to stay standing under the stern interrogation.

"As for the slave; erm... we just plan to continue the investigation. We have to find out the source of that malefic power! If we can't, it might be too late when other people get hurt by it in the future." She spoke, her delicate eyes growing red and puffy, on the verge of tears but she sniffed them back as if afraid that it might only provoke the man further. She tried her best to urge the man that their intentions were pure. The young sister was very firm in her belief that they were merely trying to do their best to prevent future disasters, so much so that she seemed at a loss on how to prove their good intentions when they were simply good intentions. The other woman's words caught her off guard though, with a small peep, she tried to retreat from the man, finding a bit more relief in talking to the other woman as she spoke in that same skiddish voice. "I-I can only think of being a bit more strict. At first we did make a lot of effort to try and stop her from fleeing but not make her uncomfortable. I... The Priest isn't the type of person who would do anything 'cruel' though..." She admitted clearly unsure of what kind of measures would be taken. "H-Has that been helpful.. If you're ready I can begin the introduction perhaps?" She asked as if trying her best to maintain her strength under such questioning, as if she could 'feel' the accusations from their thoughts in their expressions.

    =======================

Meanwhile, Dempsey who had split off wouldn't be able to find much in the way of relevant documentation. Outside of perhaps the sales slip that was evidence of a purchase of the slave themselves. The rest were merely accounting information and religious texts or other such flowery and creative pieces. The deeper she'd comb for something shady, the more disappointed she'd grow; far from shady, the temple even seemed to be very proactive in trying to support not just humans but also Felis and Faerin locals in need. Eavesdropping only made it more clear as some of the smaller missionaries spoke about how they should buckle down to put in more effort to try and support the Priest's efforts and expand on his idealistic views of a prosperous kingdom.

That was, until Dempsey approached the room where the Priest and 'Professional' were waiting for the arrival of their adventurer allies. The loud arrogant laughter of a man echoed out from within the room, Dempsey might barely be able to hear his loud and callous words through a cracked door as he spoke; "__Don't need these useless__ Would be plenty__Capturing your toy__" It was difficult to make out the man's words, but a more calm and steady voice retorted with an admonishing harshness. "__Service to the people__That you have more respect for__Stop evil__" Their words were hard to make out across the distance but the calm voice's harsh tone made it a little easier to make out his retort. In response, the callous laughter only continued though, they seemed done with whatever they were arguing about.

  6. The Felis woman knew when not to push her luck, and quietly made her way out. At her earliest convenience, she stopped to tap out a quick message to her companions outlining her findings, just in case something went terribly wrong, then returned to snatch the bill of sale for slave in question on her way out, should a safe opportunity present itself. Having this document in her possession may make negotiating with the escaped eleven slave much simpler if she could present the elf with the only proof that she was in fact a slave.

Regardless, she did all in her power to make it out of the temple without drawing attention to herself. Before, had she been caught poking around, she could have simply faked obliviousness and said that she was looking for her adventurer friends and got lost. Now, with stolen and incrimination evidence on her person, she wanted to simply leave and get as far away as possible before rejoining the group. She'd uncovered a bit more than she cared to in this place, and knew that if she was not exceedingly careful, she could perhaps make a very powerful enemy, and all for a meager quest reward, and maybe some nice elf boobies.

The priest, not the type to do anything cruel? Amane wasn't sure how much she believed that, for they did seem pretty eager to find out the secret behind the elf's malefic magic, to the point where they were probably willing to use any and all methods if it would guarantee them the information. Still, she'll give them the benefit of the doubt, though the elf still wasn't going to be returned back to slavery if she could help it. A chime sounded within her head, coinciding with the flash of an incoming message, and she opened it, quickly scanning it through as she smiled at the girl. "Sure, I don't mind," she answered, looking the blue haired felis in the eye as she silently asked for both his input, and whether he'd received the same note from Dempsey.

So the priest really didn't approve of keeping slaves, and was only doing so out of necessity? Then perhaps a slight change of plans was in order, and she'll have to learn more about the dark magic that church was so interested about. Giving a slight shake of her head, Amane pushed such thoughts to the back of her mind. No use scheming until she shared her thoughts with the rest of the group. What she was sure of, however, was that the professional that Dempsey had probably overhead was going to be trouble, and with his superior attitude a nightmare to work with.

  8. Poor girl was frightened half to death. Admitting his own faults, a long sigh escaped his breath, "Look, we just have our reservations about this whole ordeal. I'm just a tad frustrated at the lack of information given. Not your fault you weren't told certain things." Tension in his body eased after he released a steady breathing pace. No need for anger to blind him from recalling vital information this young lady was gracious enough to tell. Alonso knew how it felt being the newer guy, what with having to do menial tasks regardless of how awkward it would be. If anything the large Felis wanted to keep an eye on her. With the news of nobles getting involved, he was ready to focus on the true ordeal ahead. Certain people were much more innocent than others.

A quick glance at his interface noted some form of success on Dempsey's end. Good. Having the entire party grouped up would provide a full capacity for any challenges that might crop up. Role playing etiquette under more or less any listing would dictate that splitting the party was a horrible idea. Or at least, not for an extended period of time. Regardless of the feat, the group was a mere three players. On that note they needed to be ready for anything. His glance on the young nun again, Alonso lowered his jaw, "I thank you for the information. Now, I might just come off as paranoid, but if something goes wrong and you notice it I would like a favor. Come tell us immediately, and if not escape as best you can."

Maybe that was too much to bring to the table. She was just a NPC girl, and nothing more. Yet it was too late to just pull back on those words. "I only say this because I still do not trust this supposed professional. Someone might think you know too much no matter how much your knowledge of the matter is," he continued, his volume lowered in case of any rude eavesdroppers. That should provide their guide with some form of back up plan. If anything they needed the resources. Alonso gave a nod, "But, yes, go on with the introduction, if you would."

The young sister seemed to hesitate, but shuffling her feet she nodded back in understanding, after all things were tense lately, there was no doubt that adventurers wouldn't be an exception. If only she were more confident and could be more helpful! She cursed her own uselessness inwardly, it was visible on her face that she was reflecting on it and forming some courage to try and do better in the future. "I-I understand, even the lead Priest doesn't want to trust the 'expert' too much... but he was recommended by the local nobles so-- Well, refusing would be a little hard." She whined her answer a little teary knowing just how difficult a position they were in. They were trying to make everyone happy to the best of their ability after all.

Seeing that everyone at least seemed reasonably satisfied though, the young girl tried to push the door open to welcome everyone in. The place they stepped into was the one where in the Priest and the 'professional' Dempsey eavesdropped on. The Priest stood prepared a greet his guests, a benevolent expression on his face, a kind smile on his face as he beckoned for them to enter and be comfortable. "Please, adventurers, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." He spoke with a humble bow.

On the other hand, the 'professional' didn't lean forward in his chair and remained relaxed and indifferent. He wasn't worried about the adventurers at all, after casting a glance their way he grunted without much worry, as if this job was easily done with him alone. The armored man was equipped and decked out from head to toe in gear, heavy armor, weapons, tools that were both sharp and deadly.

Despite the man's rudeness, the Priest only shot him a dirty glance before turning his benevolent gaze on the adventurers once more. "Do make yourselves comfortable for a moment, I'll explain a little about the origin of our troubles." He urged gesturing for a near by set of seats, that were being prepared for them by the sister who escorted them this far. The Priest began to explain a little about what they discovered in the Elf and how they managed to purchase her. Originally she belonged to a noble man who had captured her from a battlefield as a prisoner of war. Where she was meant to be some kind of trophy the Priest believed there was something dark and tainted in the woman when they were introduced at a meeting. His investigation proved to be successful to some extent, they did find evidence of dark power, but not Malefimancy, the strange power was unique and seemed to flow through the elf woman's blood and bone.

"--We'd considered testing some more, as safely and harmlessly as possible mind you, when she suddenly escaped. Like a ghost she managed to slip out of our temple under our noses... Since then we've been worried we might have unleashed a terrible evil." The priest explained with a burdened sigh arriving at the end of the story.

Meanwhile, while Dempsey was attempting to evac herself from the Temple's offices, the few workers that had been going about their motions were as busy as usual. Though not particularly aware or even experts they were making every effort to try and support their faith with sweat and effort. The pair who had been discussing the Priest's efforts in particular were much more vigilant then your typical apprentices. As direct disciples of the Priest they were particularly on edge after the escape of the dark power wielding Elf. After she'd managed to slip out through the temple with none being the wiser during a busy day things had been much more tense for the temple's elites. While they weren't skilled in offensive abilities they were gifted in detecting life, while being on edge they were certainly much more aware of the goings on around them as they reaffirmed their efforts to support the Priest who raised and taught them the right path.

It was as Dempsey was making her escape that one suddenly perked up, his brow furrowed in suspicion, more fear then confidence as he made an effort to discover the source of his unease.

  11. Almost immediately Dempsey was recognized, though there was some hesitation, a clear 'what if I was wrong' on the holy man's face before he lifted a small wand from his sleeve. With a swing of his hand and a hastened chant he gestured towards the place he was most suspicious of trying to reveal Dempsey with a spell. "Illumination!" He cried the final world causing a gentle light to flash down on the place Dempsey was approaching for her escape. Upon seeing 'something' slowly reveal itself under the spell, the pair of disciples were the first to grow pale. Remembering the Elf's face, the malefic power at that elf's disposal, the warnings of the Priest and the way that monster seemed to slip in and out of places like a ghost.

There was only a brief moment of silence before the man pointed with a sharp cry. "Assassin!" Immediately his cry drew the attention of others, everyone in the office was shocked and horrified, some even dropping everything in their hands with worry. "Oh god-- The children!" "You monster, I'll not let you get past here!" There were a series of shouts, some desperate to protect the unfortunate who often visited the temples, while others were filled with righteous hope of delaying the assailant even a minute or two longer to buy others time. A particularly small boy, only a child; a priest in training tried to grab onto Dempsey's waist to stop her, his negligible weight probably not doing much to slow her down but at the same time, he earnestly and courageously tried to sacrifice himself. "Someone call the head priest!" "N-No, the Guards!--" The shouts rang out and the women began breaking off through different doors, flustered, panicked while the men and some of the more experienced women remained behind to try and slow the perceived assassin down while help was called. Those that remained were pale, clearly prepared to throw themselves onto their killer's blades to try to slow her down for the greater good.

  12. So by some means the nobles might have had the church wrapped around their fingers. Not a bad theory, yet he needed more information before the man instilled a solid conclusion. All would be revealed in due time. Or at least, that was a saying he heard at one point or another. Alonso did not know about the origins of trivial phrases anymore. If he did at all. He gave a nod to the young nun, easing his presence a bit more, "Thank you, miss. I apologize for making you uncomfortable, and you did your duty as instructed." The Felis determined he could at least make someone more at ease today. Right now the young lady needed it after everything that was happening.

Upon entering the priest's office, the large man gave a nod in response to the greeting. Everything thus far was kept up to standard. Well, except for the man donning more armor and weaponry than a chef on one of those shock value cooking shows. The stalwart feline somehow managed to get through making dinner without injuring himself. He was not clumsy, nor oafish, but Alonso always struggled to where it took him five minutes to chop a vegetable. Overcompensating much, he thought, giving an eye of suspicion towards the professional. Within his throat a growl began to creep its way up, though he forced it back into dormancy for the moment.

Causing a scene now would do nothing more than place a larger burden on the party.

He took the offered seat and adjusted himself to size. Poor nun girl was sill working hard to assist them. For the moment, the robust hulk placed most of his attention on the priest's tale. The stake those nobles had was greater than he thoughts. It was not so much the church wanting a slave, although that was still a concerning factor, as it were some greedy asshole wanting his or her slave back. In the end all that was stated matched up with the young lady's explanation. Some details were still missing, but that was solved with little more than an inquiry, "If I may ask, how did the noble you mentioned feel about this dilemma. While I cannot judge character, having little knowledge of the slave owner, the behavioral state of such a person is a vital piece of information."

Pausing, his gaze wandered towards the hired professional, then reverting back to the priest, "With that in mind, I hope it is acceptable to assume this man with us was hired by the same noble specifically?" The desirable answer meant everything was able to come together in one piece. If not, back to the drawing board. Not a huge loss until a shout made his fur stand on end. Eyes widened as the man rushed from his seat, "Amane, come with me." Regardless of the other Felis's answer, Alonso burst towards the scene to note everything that was going on, from people shouting to crying in despair.

A moment went by as his eyes noticed the figure everyone was trying to capture. His growl escaped, raising his volume, "ENOUGH. Hold your attacks." Only one way to know who the supposed assassin was, and he hoped the true culprit was on his side. He sent out a quick personal message:

Wow, the priest's expert sure was rude. Decked out in a full and, dare she say it, overcompensating set of gear, with a nonchalant attitude, the man screamed of a superiority complex the likes of which she rarely saw amongst NPCs that worked often with adventurers. Was it because they were both of the felis race? Amane knew that most NPCs with status tended to look down on the cat-like people, viewing them as slaves or lowly help, worthy only of the most mundane manual work, never mind that players were on a whole other level entirely.

She took a seat, crossing her legs and restraining herself from shooting the so-called expert dirty glares. There was no need to be rude in front of their quest giver, and rescuing the elf from under the guy's nose would have to be vengeance enough. Still, it was hard not to resent his presence, when arrogance practically emanated from his person — not only was he unneeded and probably a pain to work with, but he was going to be a hindrance as well, because being players, and coming from the 21st century Amane knew that she could mostly trust her party members to hold similar morals. When push came to shove, any decisions they made together shouldn't be too hard for her to stomach. But there was a high possibility that, whatever route they tried to go in the end, that this professional would oppose their decision.

She let Alonso handle most of the questions, investigation not being her strong suit, though she thought she did decently well during this one quest with Roland. But the blue headed felis seemed more than happy to take charge, and two people firing off questions would only overwhelm the priest, so Amane chose to remain silent, leaning back against the chair, nodding along occasionally to show her support and attention. She hadn't thought that the noble was the one who wanted the elf back, only that the priest couldn't bear to risk the elf wandering unchecked on Falderen soil, but now that Alonso had brought it up, it sounded like a pretty plausible reason. So this was more than helping out some priest, but one that could potentially drag in Falderen politics if they weren't careful...

Speaking of careful, a commotion outside the room quickly drew her attention, and Amane sprang to her feet, already making her way to the door behind Alonso before he'd even gave the command to. Rushing over, she soon spotted a mass of white hair, two perked ears perched on top, and with a dawning mix of amusement and exasperation she realised that the fuss the disciples were making had to be about none other than Dempsey. Shooting her a discreet wink, Amane crossed her arms, keeping silent for now as she waited to see how Demps wanted to explain this situation off. Was she going to keep up her charade, or at last admit to be the third and final member of the party? Either way, she would play along with what the other two felis' decided.

Hearing the Felis man's words, the Priest showed a somewhat burdened expression before answering in as kind a manner as possible. "The noble was indeed a great deal 'ruffled'... We'd thought to go through all of the proper channels and purchase this slave from him through the proper channels to guard against these types of occurrences but..." The priest spoke up til there, averting his eyes as if in shame as he let out a heavy sigh. "They still feel it best that we make use of their expert to 'retrieve' her." He admitted, the slave having been bought by them was done in an effort to prevent the noble from trying to take her back for unsavory things, the Priest had intended on doing some tests to ensure she wasn't a threat to peaceful life but things had no doubt gone awry.

Though when the armored man was pointed out, the priest would nod back in confirmation. He was indeed sent by the noble in an effort to help the temple solve their problem, unfortunately it was something the priest couldn't refuse. He instead thought it best to call in more trustworthy help and explained that that was why they were called for that very purpose. The Priest tried to put on a bright and reassuring smile as he continued. "It is our hope that this elf doesn't have malefic powers that will be threatening to peace, many dark energies and abilities cause corruption and have always been a threat to life in general which is why we cannot simply let things go as they are." He spoke as if it didn't bother him that she escaped, merely that he was concerned her malefic heritage might arm the people of the world if allowed to roam free. His intention had always been to merely find a way to remedy her corrupted powers.

The commotion of the Felis pair standing prompted the armored man to rise to his feet as well, a sharp sneer on his face, clearly intending on slaying the assailant then and there. Upon arriving though, Alonso and Amane would notice that those around preparing to deal with the assailant weren't posed to attack, but instead had the posture of those preparing to die to buy time. The temple was one of peace and healing, those within the building didn't have much combat prowess but instead had a deep faith and commitment to the betterment of man kind. It was that commitment that prompted them to try sacrificing their bodies for the greater good should this assailant try to escape.

Trying not to let Alonso and Amane get lost in what was happening within the temple though, the Priest lifted his staff with certainty. "Please adventurers, wait-- Allow me to handle this, I am the head priest of this temple and I will not allow people to harm my precious followers. I will offer you both a blessing to protect you from the Elf's corruption-- please, search for her and do your best to bring her back for us all!" He spoke trying to raise his voice above the chaos. A gentle light would come down marking the Felis pair's foreheads with a gentle light, evidence of divine protection before he tried to race ahead of them to find the source of the trouble.

The professional on the other hand merely snorted, as if he came to the conclusion that the elf wouldn't have returned only to get captured again. "Hmph-- I'll just capture this elf and be done with this business, it's no skin of my nose what happens here." He grunted his words curtly as if spitting on the good intentions of the temple staff before setting out from the building to begin his chase. If Alonso and Amane didn't follow after him they might risk being left behind.
