  1. The doorknob turns easily. As the two of you proceed through the open threshold, a straight sight lies before you. All that exists is a long stone corridor paved with checkered tiled flooring. It stretches on for a good several hundred feet. Near the end of the hall rests a large wooden oak door that bars your path. It radiates a strong aura of magic and seems well designed and fairly intricate. Various depictions are shown on the door thanks to the skilled handiwork of an illustrious woodworker.

The depictions primarily focus on a great figure in a wizard hat. Upon closer inspection the figure of mention oddly resembles a humanoid cat (more cat like than human when compared to Felis) standing on an elevated platform. It holds a whip in one hand and a stalk of catnip in the other. Below it are countless numbers of smaller woodland creatures such as mice, rabbit, squirrels and other smaller animals. They all appear to be cowering in fear, fleeing for their lives, or shackled to various machines and mechanisms designed for labor or torture. One of the furry creatures in particular stands out when compared to the others, looking oddly familiar. The rabbit is dressed fancifully in a purple tuxedo and looks rather plump and obese instead of gaunt and thin. Rather than fleeing from the feline, this particular woodland denizen lies prostrated on top of the ground with obeisance towards the great sage.

Even higher, above the elevated cat wizard, appears to be a dome ceiling with an oculus at the apex. At this apex a large, uncannily lifelike, three dimensional carving of a rabbit head protrudes from the door’s frame. It appears to be a door handle of some sorts as a large bronze ring hangs from its maw.

  2. Alpha made a small game of hopping solely on the black-tiled flooring below her. She laughed as she skipped down the bath, playing a game that mixed elements of childhood classics such as hopscotch and the iconic 'the floor is lava' type of game. It goes on for awhile but, as she time passed, she neared completion of her little game and, with a pause, grinned and puffed up her chest in pride. "One hundred and thirty-three points Nalani!" she laughed. "Beat that!"

Regardless of her reserved friend's reply, she immediately refocused onto the wooden door that proved to be an obstruction to their goal (whatever goal that was, Alpha didn't know). Either way, she soon challenged herself to attempt to open the door and, the puzzles and pictures behind this mural be damned, she'd open it with her own awesome skills and prove herself to be super cool right in front of Nalani. She'd be like one of those top secret agents in those films like James Bond (although she'd never actually watched the series, she held a continued interest in the series' legacy and had a profound fascination with the topic of espionage despite her relatively small engagement in similar activities and purveying hobbies)!

"This door is so locked!" she declared upon setting her sights on the looped knobs. It was physically impossible for the door to be locked by usual means considering there was no locking mechanism on the door that the average observer could see (to be fair, though, the game may have had its own strange oddities that may include locked doors without locks). "Don't worry Nalani, I'd totally open it for us!" she bragged and, immediately reaching for the door, she attempted to use her mystical lock-opening rogue skills on it. She still had no idea how it all worked but she was willing to give it a try. She wants to impress Nalani, after all.

  3. The next area confused her, but she was soon distracted by Alphabet skipping along the markings on the floor, playing a little game. Nalani giggled a little at her and decided, heck, why not? Quickly following the path Alphabet had made and keeping her feet light on the ground, she dodged the 'lava' easily. However, just at the last step, she mis-stepped on purpose to let her little friend win, letting out an over dramatic tsk of disapproval, "Drats, looks like I can't beat your awesomeness." Might as well keep her happy while they were here and not be too much of a stick in the mud. She then turned her focus too to the next obstacle, crossing her arms over her chest in thought.

As she studied it, Alpha continued to declare it was locked. She grinned weakly as she tried to open the door, watching from the side before continuing to study the depictions again. The cat... And the rabbit. Was this like some kind of messed up version of Alice in Wonderland? The Cheshire Cat and the White Rabbit? She frowned a little to herself- As much as she loved the story, it was kind of strange. Definitely strange. Why were the other animals being hurt so much? She needed to find out more... There had to be a cause for this.

Turning her gaze back to Alphabet, she pursed her lips a little, before reaching forward, "How about we give it a pull first, or maybe... Knock?" First she gave it a pull, before proceeding to drop the bronze ring back against the door as if she was knocking with it. That was how these handles worked, right?

  4. "Hey! Excuse me! Hey! EXCUSE MEEE? Where do you think you're touching! Hands off!"

Upon touching the door, a thick accent echoed through the hall. It’s source? It was the strangely lifelike door knob that had sprung to life and begun animating. Bronze ring still clenched firmly between its maw, it somehow had managed to utter out these unexpected words for the two to listen in on.

“Sheesh! Kids these days, no manners. And don't get me started on the mental one that tried jamming sticks into my holes. Seriously, what is wrong with you people? The last lot couldn't even tell a decent joke.” The face continues to stare expectantly as if waiting for something. It appears as though the quest objectives have been altered as a soft ring sounds in your minds. As strange as the update seems, the interface remains stead fast in its terms and does not further amend itself.

  5. Nalani jumped back in surprise as the door handle sprung to life, her expression a mixture of shock and disgust. How... Strange, but that did match with the theme. She let her expression relax a little, however her eyebrows stayed furrowed as she stood straight, watching the grumpy door handle explain his problems to them before looking at the two expectantly. Open her menu and taking a gander as the new quest objective, she raised her pointer finger to her bottom lip, tapping it gently as she thought.

Honestly? She wasn't entirely great at telling jokes. Her humour was either in the moment or it was something that was structured and made sense. Unfortunately, that's apparently not how humour works, even though it's made her giggle on multiple occasions. So, she turned to Alphabet and cocked her head to the side, grinning slightly before stepping back as if to make room for her, "C'mon, Alphabet. It's you time to shine- Tell the nice knob a joke."

If all else didn't work, she could always try some other kind of tactic, like flattery maybe?... But it was a doorknob. She could only say so much to make him smile and maybe get a pass through, plus this was a game... She had to play towards it's mechanics, and not her own thoughts.
