Megathread - (Special Event) Siege Camp
Discussion in 'Astorea' started by Raid Master, Jul 27, 2017.
  1. Roland shook his head at Jack as he completely ignored his plan, "If we were going with a fogged assault I'd be more comfortable with what Amane said earlier in regards to a poison cloud. However, the same issue I had with that still stands, it will rely on who has the strongest aeromancers. If they blow away the cover it's just a normal full frontal assault."

  2. "Ha- you all almost make me laugh. I did not know that was possible. Bravo. Sigh... the darkness is not impacted by such trivial things as the elements. It is it's own master. that engulfs everything in it's wake. If you want to be at the mercy of the weather so be it. If Falderen thought that demons were attacking along with the Elves... could you imagine their panic and fear? I digress. There is nothing more for me to say here."

The Dark Descender left the table and went to get herself a fine elven liquor. The tree huggers at least knew their wines. Funny how she could drink these things here but not in the other world without getting ill.

  3. "The point of fog is that it's natural and doesn't announce our presence if done properly..."

  4. “With this rain and wind a poison fog or normal fog would not be possible without some expert level aeromancers on our side to keep it in place. But we should take advantage of the weather, it will make their use of pyromancers less effective, though only outside in the rain. It might be best to have the oakhearts stay outside and cause a major distraction. Out here they can be protected by the raina and whatever hydromancers we have on our side….There is always the option of getting in the castle from down below. If a few oakhearts and mages are able to distract the main force of the enemy, those few that have geomancy skill could burrow a way under the castle and lead a force in there. We’d have to worry about the moat though but that could be easily taken care of by diverting the water just by opening up an area of the moat, ideally in a location that would not wash away all the siege machines and tents the elves had set up.”

  5. "We're supposed to wait for the rain to subside and just use the humidity..." Jack groans at the need to paint a picture instead of letting people connect the dots...

  6. A lot was being said, and too fast. Sighing, the Admiral went ahead and threw her own voice into the chaos, trying to incorporate the saner ideas into one sound plan. She did not bother pointing out why others were rejected and would not work; there wasn't the time for that. She began to point to various parts of the canvas blueprint map, showing different areas her plan intended to hit. She kept her plan brief.

"Key points people. Cut the crap, and stop bickering...

First: We need a chain of command. One siege leader. Lieutenants under them. People with objectives to accomplish and able to react. People able to be listened to and trusted, and competent enough to get the job done. We should have three points of entry:

The rogue idea is good, and so is the fog bank for cover. We should get people up to the rooftop and geomancy a hole open for them to quietly drop in. They should be our top DPS that can still take a hit, and are on sweeping duty, clearing things floor by floor from top to bottom. Going in on the second floor leaves them pincer pushed between top and bottom; best to start at the top, in a corner, and spread out from there. In close quarters they'd be unable to press numbers against these troops.

The reason they won't press the infiltration team is the main formation that will take to the gate and try to break in. Their numbers will serve as a distraction, forcing the castle to focus all their attention on their main entrance- or risk it being kicked in by us. With all our best melee fighters already infiltrating, they won't be left useless outside. The fog bank will keep them from having accuracy against this mass formation. The moat is easily bypassed with a few druids creating a bridge for us in their oakheart forms, and holding platforms to serve as bridges to get across. We have plenty of rubble to choose from, for them to do that.

Ranged fighters and spellcasters should snipe windows, to keep the defenders from making use of hallways to reposition troops. Combined with having to focus their main entrance, and our top fighters doing a clean sweep, this sniping element will ensure victory. They'll be forced to remain in rooms or be brought down as they're bottle necked in corridors. And if they remain in rooms, our DPS team will just take them down one by one.

A reminder that some Players chose to remain inside and help. They are the enemy, and should be put down. I don't give a fuck if they're your best friend; this is war, they were warned, they remained. Let them die for their cause.

Lastly, we should avoid the ritual Merkaba spoke of. Anything that might cause the elves to think we're in bed with the forces destroying their home is only going to hurt our relations with them further. This can all be done without parlor tricks and hail marys, if we follow a simple chain of command with these simple and outlined objectives."

  7. Roland shook his head, "There are to many cooks in this kitchen. Im going to sleep. If you guys want to do a full frontal assault, with or without a cloud, go for it, but I'm not going to be happy about it."

With that Roland takes a swig of his wine before sauntering off into the elven side of the camp.

  8. It was about time for him to see this grand battle everyone had spoken of but by the time he had already arrived, the first so called day ended as the castle was retaken. From what he heard, it sounded like the battle would only intensify in the coming days, this pleased the demon inside of him more than anyone could possibly imagine, for the first time, a proper battle would begin, the only thing missing here was a true army which he knew wouldn't appear, a bunch of players coming together to form a true army? the very thought made him laugh for a time, something like that wasn't possible by a rag tag of players, even with a guild it would prove difficult as over ninety percent of the players had no real idea of organization of units during war, luckily for him he had already served in the military for a time and knew what was required. Clad in his ebony armor and his fully enclosed helmet to prevent from anyone identifying him as the regular Seto, he walked into the camp with the hopes of seeing the war first hand. The camp was pathetic and weak, composed completely of tents against the walls, far away from the other camp. He could tell by instinct this was where all the artillery and officers were, un-doubtfully planning for the upcoming battle. he had little interest in the planning of battle itself, seeing it pointless for himself. Up the stairs to on top of the gate, Seto crossed his arms as his cape flickered into the wind behind him as he stood on the walls, observing the devastation from the battle pior.

  9. "If you think a full assault is the only way to go, then sure, lets do that. Forgive me for playing devil's advocate though, and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't forest fogs pretty much exclusive to tropical rainforests? I'm not sure what Adecus Forest is exactly, but the nobles here have likely been living here their whole lives. If this place has never fogged before, and suddenly one appears, I doubt they'll assume it's natural phenomena.

More importantly though, do we have a means of differentiating between us and the players who support Falderen? Some of whom, I imagine, might even belong to our guilds. When we launch our attack, there's every possibility that these players can infiltrate our ranks as well."

Her ears twitching slightly in embarrassment, Amane leaned further back in her seat, having said her piece. Strategising really wasn't her strong point — she was only here because Aaron seemed preoccupied, and someone had to represent VALOR. The minute Aaron arrived, she was so leaving this discussion for food.

  10. The Admiral looked Amane over, finding it easier than watching Roland's retreating back. She wanted to shout at him, but it would have been pointless. War was not about what made you happiest, it was about what won.

"The fog is merely to obfuscate our numbers and make it harder for them to shoot the main formation- as for the amount of fog. Have you ever gone driving hours after a heavy rain, and been unable to see ten feet ahead of you? It's a common enough thing near Appalachia, which is close to our setting. Aided with magic, we can turn the natural fog that will occur after it stops raining into an obscuring blanket to mask our army.

We shouldn't need to worry about infiltration from the defenders; most were crafters, and it would be suicide to try and take on the main formation outside, or sneak into it. As for the DPS team I think it would be best to send in as a flanking move: everyone on that team will know who is on that team. So there will be no confusion about friend and foe for them as they sweep the castle, room by room. Unfortunately their limited numbers mean taking prisoners is... not an option, without reinforcements to keep said prisoners behaving. This means that any PC or NPC they encounter needs to be eliminated with extreme prejudice."

  11. After letting out a tired yawn and sloshing what little fluid remained at the bottom of his flask, Jack would bid the others farewell while returning to the night camp.

"I'm sure we'll manage one way or another. Our lot thrives in the chaos. Perhaps it's better that way. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. In the end, the Elven war-master gets the final say."

/exit (We need to wrap this up)

  12. Shrugging, the Admiral stepped away from her little sewing circle she had hoped to create, realizing that the few people who had cared enough to talk strategy could not even agree on when a plan was too complicated. Or too simple. Resigned to whatever may come, she shrugged and started towards the night camp, patting Jack once on the shoulder as she passed him at a faster pace. She had her eye on the gatehouse, and would bunker down there for the night if nobody else had claimed it...

    • OOC: exiting

  13. He had stood there for a good thirty minutes, taking in the fresh air of a dead battlefield littered with the dead and destruction nearby, it was a smell he knew all too well from here and in the real world, in his current form, it was a smell he loved so much although he couldn't explain why. He realized in this state, he was no matter than the witch but at least he still had the memories of his real life and was far more down to earth, far more realistic than her, she was more of a dreamer even though she probably describe him as a destroyer himself, a title he was contempt with. Hearing some ruckus behind him, he turned around revealing a woman that had grabbed his attention as she stormed out of the war tent looking irritated as all hell. He laughed a bit, he knew now the imbeciles running the show down there either didn't know what the hell they were doing or were so stupid they couldn't put their differences aside to formulate a proper strategy. The more he thought about, the more entertaining it sounded, he wanted to see these morons in action for himself. Perhaps if he would suggest a strategy they would take so they would stop squabbling like children, this was war, there is no time for childish games during war, something these people obviously didn't understand. Watching as the woman walked away, it was time, Seto walked down the stairs leading from the top of the walls to the ground before making his walk through the camp and to the war tent. He also saw the Dark Descender in the distance with some wine? Why was she here? she was no strategist or tactician. He wondered if she asked to use her magic to summon deamons, that would be a mighty weapon indeed to wield but he let those thoughts lose as he lifted the war tent's flap. Walking in, he saw a decent amount of players in here squabbling among themselves.

"It seems you still haven't formulated a plan for the battle, I would suggest bringing "THAT" witch back in here, a legion of demons would act as a sledgehammer. You people cannot afford to hold to Ethics or morals during a war or during a battle."

  14. As everyone was talking he'd remain silent, his mind elsewhere he'd smile, "Why not go in the way we came? Admiral, wasn't there a way in through some shit pipes or something? A canal under the city leads through some sewers. Couldn't we go into the city that way with some of those invisible guys and make our way inside. Use the invisible guys to get up top where the gate is being guarded. Assassinate the draw bridge fellas and then open the draw bridge; meanwhile, we get up to that wall with someone who can cast some flames and maybe set off some TNT or something. But this might require distractions. Maybe some magical users, utilizing this rain to create fog; then send some electrical currents towards the men; the spread water would conduct.

Shock a few people lower resistance and give us a way in. Y'all got that floor plans no?" he'd inquire about before rubbing his head, "I mean if that plans too long we could always I don't know. make a catapult and rocket launch ourselves onto the wall, maybe fighting our way through the men opening the draw bridge. Could also send up the invisible guys sitting atop rocks; let rocks slam over or atop the wall and let them go assassins creed. There are a few options and not all of them are complex." he'd say shurgging; "We could get the invisible guys to climb walls and cascade the ropes down. Maybe use ladders in the dead of night. Any of these ideas seem feasible?" He'd tap his chins and think of how useful Hydromancy might be with all this rain and the ability to use ice to shatter and destroy stone if not pierce and slay those needed...

OOC: Use the invisible elves to sneak in and drop the draw bridge. Also Hydromancy can turn this to hail and barrage the castle if not ice spikes. Gather the water mages! lol

  15. a man caught his attention as he began talking his mind, some of his actual idea's didn't sound bad at all, he knew the man couldn't be any force commander but he could tell he could play dirty with espionage. What he said made sense, send in a small force to perform behind enemy lines operations while the main force keeps them busy. There weren't any plans for the main force but at least this was a good start compared to before. He walked over to the young man who just spoke his mind.

"I do not know you nor would I like to at the moment BUT you a valid point player and an excellent idea. We have no plans for the ground forces but your idea for a separate force performing underground behind enemy lines operation is smart indeed, we will need all the advantages we can get if you all hope to survive the coming battle. I agree with you, we should send a small force into the canal that leads into the city sewers that can open the bastion gates to the cities itself however we need more support for a direct assault. In the separate force should also be flame mages who can conduct physiological warfare while the other open the gates and bridges. On the flip side, we need more artillery pieces to damage the walls and the city itself. Fire mages will fire explosive from the artillery into the city while the water mages use the rain and mist to make it hail into the city. We must use overwhelming force to drive the enemy into defeat. When the gates fall, well have the Witch summon forth demons to lead the initial charge into the city, they will act as physiological warfare as well as meat shields for the advancing army when the enemy is wiethered down, we strike while the pan hot while continuing our bombardment. This is war, throw your morals out the door if you want to survive if you want victory. Daylight will be here soon so make up your minds quickly"

The ebony warrior than crossed his arms, expecting most of the people to either ignore him or outright reject them, he wasn't expecting most of these idiots to really to do anything but fight among themselves. No matter what would happen, this was still a game to him and it was quite entertaining to watch indeed. If the battle would be planned out badly, he would simply watch from the sidelines and watch them die in agony.
