Dungeon Master
Molly's eye twitched as she heard Jack mention simply trapping the beast under a layer of rock or whatnot, her face going a bit red.
"You can't do that!" she chastised, frowning.
"Remember what I said? That creature eats the magic around it, starting from the strongest source down. Me—Capricorn, the wildlife... All of that will be destroyed."
The beast twisted its spine to an unnatural position, slashing the Paladin across the chest before the knight counterattacked and tore the beast's left shoulder cleanly, the ripping sound of flesh and the spilling of blood gushing out the wound apparent. Dimly, in its bestial, animalistic mind, it drew back, missing three out of its four limbs. Then, as it withdrew, the dark-haired magician flung and latched onto its horns, the creature giving a guttural roar but unable to fling the intruder off.
Jack ripped the bone necklace off the beast, wrenching a bloodcurdling scream in response. Molly's eyes widened.
"I didn't know at first but you proved it! That necklace is made of bone. Dark magic," she muttered. The beast's sinew, bone, and flesh body began mold together yet again in an obviously painful process. Molly winced.
"I visit Druuk Island once in a great while and, each time I come, there will be bad people who'll also be there. I suspect that there may be a magician of the Cult who planned this."
Unlike before, she was completely solemn and serious without any hint of the childishness and playfulness she had displayed before. Meanwhile, the beast's rapidly changing body threw Jack off as the creature grew limbs once again; except they were all hooves and bloodless. Softer, gentler fur coated its body and, while the skull remained there, the long protrusions shortened and rounded. A little doe tail sprouted from behind. The creature, in spite of all the pain in went through, approached the Paladin and Magician for a small lick.
Sadness flowed into Molly's eyes.
"I can recognize him now without the dark magic masking him. He's the Guardian of the Forest, Sagittarius," she explained.
"The magic must've corrupted him somehow. He's always been a gentle and kindred spirit and welcomed me and many others to the island without fail all these years. I had wondered where'd he been and figured that the beast you had fought had killed him..."
She looked at the two.
"I know this isn't part of your mission, but would you two help me track down the cultist who did this?" she gestured to the now tame doe who had taken a liking to its saviors. She floated down and picked up the fallen bone necklace, smashing it in her hands.
"I may have my magic back but the one who did this is extremely powerful. I'll answer any questions you have in turn."
She turned around, not wanting to face them. Her drastic change in demeanor and behavior was odd but she had to hunt this cultist down before she could leave the island once more.
