Valther repeatedly swung the flimsy blade gripped within his fist in a chaotic fashion. Never had he ever swung a blade of any form, unless you count hacking a chicken to pieces with a kitchen knife. His movements were wild and untrained, and his wrist grew sore and felt swollen from the unhealthy positioning of his hand. "Ow..." he groaned as finally he felt his wrist give way, and his palm fell open, the blade clattering to the dirt. Wincing and clutching his wrist, Val crouched and retrieved his weapon with his unharmed left hand. He swung the blade out wide in an attempt to swing it back and into the sheath that sat at the back of his waist... until he realized the locket of the sheath was on the other side. His choice of sheath positioning was terrible, in hindsight, and too exhausted to bother switching it, he simply took a pew in the dirt and impaled the tip of his weapon into the earth beside him. The weaponry and magic in the game was so hard to get used to... every time he attempted to use the pyromancy mastery he'd chosen, he couldn't do much more than heat up the palm of his hand, maybe occasionally fire off a harmless spark like the flare off of fireworks. As for his hydromancy mastery... so far it was only good for washing his hands using the moisture around them. Val sighed and laid back, staring up at the blue sky above, ringed by sparse tree canopies. "I need a mentor or something..." he groaned to himself and laid an arm across his eyes to block out the sun. With a grunt, he sat straight back up and began to massage his wrist, easing the swollen feeling out of it. While the game numbed pain, the stiffness from straining muscles still remained. Maybe learning to be ambidextrous was a good idea... it was only a fleeting thought however, and he doubted once he learned how to wield his blade properly he'd have the problem of losing the use of his right hand. At least, he hoped so.
As the short Faerin was making his way about he'd soon pass by a male in the open. Watching him for a moment he'd pause and sit, taking notes on a stump. Taking down information on his stance, his abilities and anything he'd give the male to go off of to start. A faint chuckle passed as he saw the male's sword skills sub par, then the magic. Sighing he was rather annoyed, walking over immediately he'd criticize the boy. "Garbage, utter garbage. You can't even cast the basics, let alone wield your weapon properly. You really are bad at this game huh. Oh well, to each their own. But I will not have you sully my arts with such terrible magic boy. I'll help you learn to control those spells you have at the very least. Can you cast a fire ball, maybe a water bullet?" he'd say rubbing his chin. Sighing he'd walk back and begin to chant. "Fira lets you cast a stream of fire from your hands; a bit more advanced but one I've read about. Piro is the basics of the fire skills. This lets you cast fire balls and such. Ingnira Feuer is another basic, a way to set your blade a flame. I do not possess these skills but I've read about them. Most of the spells I've read about tend to be a combination of Latin, English, German, Greek or French. Now for magic, I can show you, let me begin." He'd say as he began to chant his words, "Aqua...." his staff soon creating a water ball shot forth; "A simple water bullet. casting his next skill he'd say Idro, Wasser casing the water to take the form of a whip like a state around his staff; whipping it forth to strike the tree beside him. Eyes shifting he'd grin as he once more said wasser causing water to burst forth from the earth before saying Idro as the water seemed to pour from above. HIs lips parting once more Hielo, the words combining as the water turned to snow of sorts gently coming down. His hands firmly upon the staff dragged across the water's surface as to speak once more Aqua, Hielo. He'd say sending a burst of water forth freezing it into ice like spikes. Eis Crio. he'd say next as the ice seemed to freeze up around the target he made piercing all about it. Eis, he'd say as the water before him froze, then Aqua causing it to turn back into the water. "Hydromancy is my specialty and favorite magic. I'd suggest you learn to pick one to focus on. Let's see what you can do from this brief lesson." he said sitting now on a stump. "Go on...oh by the way you may call me Master Daisuke, I'll be your new instructor and help you, git gud." he'd say chuckling to himself. A sudden rambling overhead caused Val to spring to his feet and, with a racing heartbeat, face the man who had began his assault on both Val's ears and brain with such a rapid mouth. Valther scooped his blade up as he stood and held it towards the player defensively, but his hands shook obviously. This man may have seen him practicing... and if he did it was no use trying to intimidate him, and yet Val tried anyway. Lowering his blade to the earth, Val properly listened to what the man was saying. While it was rather condescending and somewhat toxic, he was about to give Val advice on his magic. So he had seen him. Now Val was really depressed. With a groan, Valther swung his blade out wide and slid it into the sheath at his waist, holstering it firmly. "No, I can't do either of those. No matter how much I try I can't get more than a spark, or a little moisture," he sighed and folded his arms. The man began to ramble on about some strange, unfamiliar words combined with descriptions of each, and Val raised a hand, trying to break up the player's blathering to get a word in, but before he could, Valther was forced to stand back as his rather forceful mentor blasted the air with a bullet of water, followed by what seemed to be a liquid tendril, and Val's eyes widened in wonder and surprise. The tree the player was demonstrating his mixture of water and ice spells on was frozen, lashed and pierced beyond all repair, and Valther couldn't hold in his wonder. "Holy crap, how do you do that?!" he exclaimed and looked towards the man, who introduced himself as 'Master Daisuke'. Bowing low towards this new 'mentor', Valther introduced himself. "Thank you, Master. My name's Valther, but just call me Val," he smiled brightly, impressed by his Master's magical skill. "But... I never knew these... chant things were needed. I thought it would be just like thinking about it, and having it happen," Val explained, rubbing the back of his neck, already having forgotten what all the chants were, too busy being fascinated by the water and ice. "Oh, and as for hydromancy... I mainly picked up the magic for the ice rather than water itself," he explained further and looked away, hoping he hadn't disappointed his new Master. @Master Daisuke
After all his teachings it seemed the one part that stuck was the magic in which the boy seemed most fascinating. A slight rubbing of the temple would pass as the male looked over towards the boy. "Well, Val you said. There is quite a simple explanation to that. But I'm sure you don't seem too interested in the intricates. But I'm going to let you know anyways. Open your menu and take notes. All magic can be broken down into three categories. Those requiring chants, those requiring movements and those what require specified tools. In most if not all cases it's a combination of the three. So with that down you understand, without a chant, you won't get the end results. Most of the spells here are indeed a form of Latin from what I can understand or some foreign language to english. The reason this matter is the language as a whole holds a lot of power; utilizing and gaining mastery over a language grants power over the brain, or mind in this case. Magic comes from two places, one the body the other the mind. Most bodies have mana they can draw from similar to the idea of drawing Stamina." he'd say as he waited til the male presented questions or was ready for him to continue. "Now the basics are out of the way; we can use these spells we chant to create effects; the magic you see. There are usually three words of power per element. Made up to combine and or adjust accordingly. Using words such as gibberish or filler phrases works as well so long as you are focused on what you desire; that part where you assumed just thinking it works does, but requires a trigger word. This again is important because like a name; there is a lot of power behind it. What do you fear a wolf or Wolves? True it's the same word but one has more power, same for words. As we learn to use these trigger words, they can be combined together for interest effects or, repeated in succession to build up during charges before being released or combined with another for a more devastating attack." he'd say as he again would wait for the male to finish his notes and ask his questions. Remembering his words on the water he'd shake his head. "There is a reason it's called Hydromancy and not just ice magic. The reason being Hydro meaning water many being control in this instance means you're a magician of water controls. This means far more than just the liquid state it in naturally. But it's solid; ice like state and the gas; in these instances, you have minor skills like fog and or visual manipulation skills such as reflecting light to bend around you and becoming invisible. But that gets tricky as you learn to synergize other magics with one another. For instance, I learned to combine my Aeromancy for the wind and lightning with Hydromancy for my water and ice; the two working nicely as one compliments the other." Pausing he'd point out the obvious "For you, the water aspect might synergize nicer compared to the ice with fire. At least in the instance of water, you can boil stuff although fire is highly dependant on its fuel source so keep that in mind. A good Synergizer with that is Aeromancy not just because of the oxygen. But the lightning's state of plasma causing it to create larger explosions. One combination I've been meaning to try is that with Geomancy, creating sorts of lava and such. I'm sure you are getting the idea." he'd say hoping the boy might speak up and or ask for more specifics."This is it, for now, more on practicality than lessons. Let's shift focus here just a bit. You are utilizing your magic through a tool of no magic; a harder task. But not impossible. Your actions are one of interest. Here let me give you an example." he'd raise his weapon and begin to chant, "Electro Blitz" his staff would then become coated in an electrical discharge. "I've coated my weapon, now if I wanted to use the lighting outside of the weapons perhaps through myself as the conduit instead and to be quick about it; if disarmed. Tuono works great; well for Aeromancy and utilizing the magic. I often find my words of power to be that of Greek, German, 's not really suggestSpanish, Italian and French. So you may wish to find words that work best for you and are easy to memorize, as well as make you focus and think; really concentrat's not really suggested to speak your native tongue while doing this. Words flow to freely and are not meant to be thought on." he said some smiling; "Nor any real language you may speak fluently. Either way, let's see you figure out some combinations in said skills you have as well as try and show me a combo." he'd say waving his hand so the male might begin his assigned task. @Valther
Val's master began to blabber on again, but now that he had begun to pay attention, he was catching the information that was so rapidly thrown at him. Raising his palm up to his face, Val navigated to the miscellaneous functions and opened a notepad, starting to rapidly log his master's explanations. Valther gasped when Daisuke explained about the chants and movements and such. "That makes so much more sense now... just with that I feel like I could do a lot more..." he mumbled to himself as he continued to jot down notes and dot points as they were fired at him as if from a machine gun. Val nodded and raised his eyebrows when Daisuke mentioned that many spells were in Latin. "Just as well I'm kind of interested in Latin... should make learning spells fun," he mused in response and returned his eyes to the digital notepad. He nodded at Daisuke to tell him he was ready to continue. Valther tilted his head in confusion towards what Daisuke had said. "So... in other words as long as we know what word of power we want to use, we can just spit out whatever words we want?" he asked and smiled slightly, jotting it down into the notepad as his master continued. Val repeatedly nodded in understanding, before raising his typing hand in the air. "So... for example, if I associated the power word for 'fireball' with simply 'fire', it would be weak... but say I used 'inferno' instead it would work much better?" he asked curiously and tilted his head again, starting to slowly grasp the concept. Valther nodded at Daisuke, knowing what he meant, but he raised his hand again and spoke. "I took it with the intention of mastering the ice aspect of it. I wanted the ability to slow enemies and make barriers in combination with my sword, like an ice mage-gladiator hybrid. Although.... being able to hinder vision in the heat of battle sounds nice too," Valther mused, beginning to trail off, eventually speaking to himself and taking down a couple idle notes. "But as I said... ice is what I want to focus on, so I can balance my offense and defense as a solid manifestation," Val explained once more, smiling at his Master. "I hope you can help me with that." Valther gasped and nodded excitedly. "That actually sounds amazing. We might need to test that sometime when I'm... more useful," Val suggested and chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck shamefully. Valther had no more questions on the subject, simply assuming combining them would be a simple task... and was likely sorely mistaken. He listened to what Daisuke was saying, but was immediately thrown back in surprise as Daisuke channeled electricity through his staff, the lightning crackling and sparking off of the metal within it like a lightning rod. "Woah... t-that's the kind of thing I wanna do with my sword," Val explained with his eyes wide in awe. Val brought his notepad back up as his master began to explain the uses of embedding magic into a weapon or the caster's own body. Val nodded and smiled wide; this was what he'd been waiting for, coating a weapon. Finally he was going to be able to do it... and hopefully it would make up for his horrible swordplay. Daisuke explained about looking for a language Val was unfamiliar with, and he couldn't help but laugh. "Just as well I'm only interested in Latin, not familiar with it," he explained and closed down the notepad, searching for a translation function on the pad. Spotting it, he opened it up and immediately scrolled through the languages, selecting Latin, and typed in the word 'ignite'. Reading it a few times to memorize it, he then typed in the word 'burst' and memorized that also. Dropping the menu, Valther slid the blade from its sheath and held it in front of him, parallel to the earth. Placing the tips of two fingers on the blade just above the guard, he shut his eyes and took a deep breath. Swiping his fingers down the length of the blade, he muttered "Ignium," quietly, and the fuller of the blade was filled with flames, reaching up the length of the blade to coat the very tip. Feeling the warmth of the flame on his hand, he opened his eyes and gazed down the length of the lit blade. "There we go..." he muttered in amusement, before turning away from Daisuke and swinging upwards like one might with a golf club, shouting "Rupti sunt!" as he did, and the flame from the blade extended a short distance outwards, lashing at the air as it leaped off of the sword. Val turned and smiled towards his mentor. "How did I do, master?" he asked quietly. @Master Daisuke Valther 100% HP MAX HP 80% EN MAX EN Conditions - Resting.
As the male questioned him and in turn responded with his own inquiries as he tried to teach him he'd pause, "Well, you see it isn't so much the word; as the thought. Like I said before, with words of power, I can say fire casually and it means little because less thought and focus goes into it. I could say Erif and it would be more thought despite being fire backwards. The reason I suggest words from foreign languages or unfamiliar ones is due to the thought and focus that goes into pronouncing and making sure that is the word associated with the actual thing. Fire is fire, not hard to associate it nor think about it. But the focus on a spell when saying a foreign or unusual word is more dedicated, it makes the energy and power from said words generate a better resulting fire. Not that you can't say fire, but now you must say fire, think of fire and imagine an inferno, much easier to say inferno..." shrugging he'd hoped that answered the boys question although a bit scattered it probably didn't as he was still new to teaching; let alone transferring his actions into words and thoughts tangible to his students. As they continued and he'd laugh he'd nod, "Ice make is a valid choice in magic, I see someone is a friend of Grey Fullbuster." a faint smirk passed, "Water and Ice are one in the same; liquid and solid. Ice can be used to manipulate or create something to replicate. So, let's say you enter a dungeon, but you do not have the key; you may try using hydromancy to fill the door and make an ice key. Then again; that key may shatter. But take the replica and bring it to a keysmith and you may have found your way in. It only truly works on things or doors which don't have magic or game barriers restricted on them. But don't go running around telling the world this secret or exploit. Perhaps it's just something they game wants us to stumble upon since it isn't fool proof. But yes, Ice was a wise choice, fire another but more sporadic and less controllable. But yes, Hydromancy is my go to for spells as such I've mastered it quite a bit more than Aeromancy; suggestion although that would benefit you most due to the electricity and close range air blasts." he'd note giving the suggestion upon his next spell. Yet as his student began to show interest in his teachings regarding the coating of a weapon he'd smile some, arching a brow he'd smile as he watched him look into it a bit. As he completed the task he'd move as the flames passed and he'd nod, "Not bad, but keep in mind. This game is not simple, not your mana bar, that simple spell cost you a fair chunk of your mana. A spell can be used up to a tier or two above where you are. However, in doing so you burn more mana, the more familiar you are and more acclimated to the proper skill level, the easier and less costly the spells become. So once you're trained it would most likely cost you a tenth of your mana or one-twentieth if you were proficient. But at least your not trying that from the scratch or you'd fail every time. Magic has a minimum cap for what a spell can and can't do. For instance, I can make it rain with my hydromancy and I'm proficient with it, but that costs me one tenth my mana because it is a skill that is akin to Expert level. Now if I wanted to make it storm. I'd need it to be a master if not Illustrious and it would require combining my Aeromancy. So in reality that would be two expert level skills at minimum, it would be one fifth of my mana just to do so." He'd sigh some, "I also plan to become a storm mage, so I have a long way to go. But enough about me. What is your end game? What is it you wish to master about your skills. If I may suggest, mastery over water first, then fire. The latter can be dangerous and hard to manage. With water, you can at least minimize damage and injury to yourself. Just some food for thought. Outside of this, may I suggest you also consider enchanting your blade to retain or ease the cost of spells for you. I'm not sure if Spellbane soldiers are a thing here. But in most games, there is a class of anti mages. A skill is known as spell bane usually drains the enemy of their mana, which you would need; granted your weapons lack to regenerate or produce more magical output. Again food for thought might be worth investigating. I plan on finding ways to boost my current set up. So aside from coating your blade how else do you foresee using magic. Because how I see it you've wasted skills if that was your only goal. you could just get a mage in your party to do it; never travel alone. So let's think bigger and give some real goals. Your an Arcane warrior, not just a warrior at this point my friend." he'd say giving honest crituqe. @Valther
Valther nodded and hummed in acknowledgement. "I get it... so the more I have to think about it, the more power it'll have. It sounds like some real psychic kind of stuff... like the more you the thing the more damage you do," Val added his own view on it and chuckled. "Imagine saying that to the newbies..." he mumbled to himself and shrugged. Val suddenly had another question for his mentor. "What if I was silenced? Like... I was captured and couldn't speak, or I had to be quiet? Is there a way I can cast magic without having to speak?" he asked curiously, considering every possibility and situation in which he may not be able to use his magic. "Like... maybe saying it mentally? Or hand signs, or something?" he asked and tilted his head, making random set of hand signs to accentuate his question. Valther tilted his head curiously, raising an eyebrow. "Gray... who?" he asked quizzically. He wasn't familiar with many pop-culture references, so the name of the anime character didn't ring any bells to Val. He nodded when Daisuke suggested a scenario in which ice magic would be efficient. "That's the kind of thing I want to be able to do as well. Making weapons and tools out of ice would also be useful in situations where I'm left unarmed," he added, the image of a saber of ice coming to mind immediately. "Mm, aeromancy may be a good idea, doing things like creating wind barriers, or charging my sword with lightning, but I think before I try for that I'll see what else I can find," Valther explained with a knowing nod. Valther listened closely to Daisuke's explanation of mana consumption, and he nodded, raising his palm to his face, and he stared at the little yellow stamina circle. As Daisuke said, it had cost him a fair bit of mana to cast the flame blade. "I also assume it would cost me more to maintain the flame on the blade for a long period of time instead of launching it," he questioned and lowered the HUD. "Thankfully coating weapons doesn't seem to be a very high level spell... but creating weapons using magic may be a different story," he added and rubbed the back of his neck. "Looks like I've got a while to go before I can do that then." A storm mage, huh? Valther asked himself, scratching his chin inquisitively. It was an interesting concept and not something many likely would go for. But his own plan may have been even more unique in the world of Terrasphere. "I want to become a Spellblade, a warrior with mastery over both the blade and various magic types, using the two in combination with each other to attack and defend, or empower his weapon with the elements. That's what I want," Val explained, short and sweet. "Enchanting my sword would be good... if I could maintain flames or frost on my sword without having to constantly expend mana, that would help me out immensely," Val agreed with a quick nod. His eyes went wide when Daisuke mentioned something called 'Spellbane'. "W-what? That might be a thing?" he asked loudly, suddenly getting close to Daisuke. "If so... I need your help to find it. If I can get that skill... I could really become a Spellblade, ripping the magic from others to use as my own in combination with my sword. I need it," Valther almost begged, beginning to mumble to himself near the end. @Master Daisuke
A faint smile would pass, "Yes, exactly. This is why the longer the incantation; usually results in a more powerful spell, more focus, and more exerted energy. But this is far beyond even my teachings. Outside of channeling you magic and holding it chanting a few seconds per rank of its mastery. The game has several. from poor to Illustrious. But, I'm sure you read the manual and how we grow stronger from the Master points earned to the skill level excelling as we train certain skills." he said some rubbing the back of his head. "Well, to be honest, it's not a requirement but for the most part plays a big role. But a staff or object enchanted can play a role in powering the natural energy. There are skills to use hands or do so with runes; mentally and such but they are separate skills you need to learn and master. "You seriously don't know...not a fan then huh? It's not important." he said smiling, "It's just an old show with a similar character. He could use what was called Ice make magic. The ability to shape and form ice into whatever. Like so." he'd say as he summoned some water once more than turn it to ice then waved his hand over the ice chanting some making it shape into said object; first a sword than a key. "Well I'm not a master but it's a concept you can use and work with. This lets once adjust it near instant." He'd say shrugging "This game is near limitless, you just need to be creative Which is why Hydromancy is so amazing. Eyes shifting he'd rub the back of his head, "Yes Lightning or sending sharp wind slashes with your sword at enemies, again many combinations exist among weapons and magic; but it is all rather energy consuming." he'd say as he pointing to the objects he created then the effect his own magic cost just coating the sword, "It becomes a constant drain in that sense. It' safer to use a turn based cost at once. It's a fixed time but lets you not burn your energy entirely. You don't want to experience a mind down. They are not fun and can result in death. You collapse and pass out, leaving you open to whomever and whatever you happen to be at mercy too. But yes, my goals are a Storm mage, but a spell bane would be nice for a paladin or soldier of magic. Keeps you folks able to defend and fight against magic users. A safety net and fun way to play the game. I've only heard rumor of it, not how to unlock it. But if the rumors hold any truth then yes. It will be a viable way to do things.Might need to ask around or find the quest because I think it's an advanced mastery of sorts. One which isn't so easy to obtain...but that's just a guess from the texts I read about it among others. If you want to learn more, read some game lore, look into the game itself. Search about and try to get into the world and its vast knowledge. But, maybe I'm wrong and it was never coded in and only just a flavor text." he shrugged some smiling as he honestly had no clue but wanted to boy to think if not do some research. Turning he'd shrug "We can begin looking about locally, but your best bet is spell shops. Library and taverns. So which of those are you most into searching first?" He'd ask as he began to walk forth heading back into town "It may be a while before we reach Stokbon, but this type of magic seems to be a real mage killer. The Holy wars I read about and the church never saw eye to eye with mages. So...I suggest seeking your anti magic skills with them. Come, let's visit the holy capital of Falderen. " he'd say but not before a bear seemed to waddle its way out before them. "So quick battle before then or shall we just call it quits now?" he'd ask arching a brow his arms leaning back as he began to charge his spell. A faint smile passing as he prepared to unleash the beast a world of pain; however, there were two paths this could lead to. One of combat another of a distraction not far off given a fairly large beehive existed just near the bear's location. One shot at it would cause it to drop and coat it in honey and make it a target for the bees this could help in combat as well but would make it a chasing battle as it surely would run away in hopes to flee the damned beast. @Valther Tyrell OOC: Lets pick one and move along.
Valther tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. "Uhm... manual? Where was this exactly?" he asked quizzically. He had come into this game totally unprepared and had to learn everything from scratch and through meeting others... now he felt stupid that he was likely the only player who had missed whatever manual Daisuke was talking about. "I thought everyone came into this game with no idea what to do," he sighed and slapped a palm against his forehead, dragging it down his face in disappointment. "Hopefully if I can enchant my sword somehow I could get it to hold magic without me needing to chant anything... that way I could use it even if I have to be quiet," he muttered, scratching his chin in thought. Valher gave Daisuke an enthusiastic thumbs up and smiled widely. "Thankfully I'm not lacking in the creativity department, I'm pretty confident I can make ice magic work," he explained proudly. Val nodded in understanding and sighed. "Thanks for the warning... mind down doesn't sound fun at all," he noted and looked up at Daisuke. "I'll try to stick with instant spells instead of channeled things, I'll probably only channel sword coatings really," he added quietly, still talking mostly to himself. "I'll make sure to look around and ask. I'll mention it to a few people, see if they know anything. I'm gonna hope there's be libraries in most of the cities with lots of game lore, so I'll probably spend a few hours in those," he added and folded his arms. "If you don't mind doing some light reading, would you mind helping out? Two minds are always better than one," he requested with a light chuckle. "You seem like the type who'd do a bunch of research on this kind of thing, to be honest," he mentioned idly. Valther nodded and smiled. "Library first, best to delve into the mysteries surrounding it first before looking like a fool in front of a tavern full of drunkards or a sagely spellbook merchant," he jested and turned the face the city in the distance. Valther stood firm and widened his stance as the bear waddled up, and Daisuke prepared a spell to combat the beast with. He didn't feel like facing any big animals just yet... he still didn't have that kind of confidence. "Let's call it quits, I want to get to the city ASAP," he whispered. Tracking the mage's gaze, Val noticed the beehive beside the bear, an easy distraction. "I'll handle this, let's see how far I've come," he stood in front of Daisuke, taking his position at the vanguard, and aimed his palm towards the bear in a threatening manner. Raising his HUD subtly, he used the translation function once more. Afraid of what might emerge from Val's palm, the bear held its ground, watching with wary eyes. With a smirk, his hand shot up and towards the left of the bear, and he shouted "Mico!". The incantation sent intense heat up the length of Valther's arm from the elbow, like boiling water in a pipe, and a fireball the size of a golf ball shot out like a bullet, striking the top of the beehive and unhinging it from the tree. The yellow shelter plummeted onto the bear down below, coating it in sticky honey. "Let's go!" Val cried and turned to rush off, a wide grin plastered to his lips as the rush of firing a spell from his fingertips still lingered within his body. [Exit]
