Personality
Largely occupied with exploring the mechanics of the system, the nature of quests, and having his adventures monitored by a shadowy benefactor, Alkor and Townshend both seem rather bland in terms of personality. For a low functioning sociopath, it's frankly amazing that they display any grasp on communication at all. Thankfully, there is still a human somewhere in that shell, and he can be triggered to enjoy the game at intervals and even marvel at the digitized beauty. His few moments of humanity are easily forgotten when his bloodlust becomes apparent, however.
Unlike the real world, Terrasphere does not innately preclude murder from common practice. As such, one of his more bestial habits is to solve disputes in the bloodiest way possible. Rather than dealing with an NPC who has committed an atrocity diplomatically, he is prone to violence.
And there's almost no reasoning with him once he levies a death sentence.

Biography
Forget what society thinks. No one owes it any favors. When you're born, you don't choose the parents who brought you into the world, you can't choose the experiences that follow, and whatever damage gets done, you're stuck with. That's the short version of it.
Townshend was born in Horry County, somewhere in between the destitute and those of privileged position. Where the swamplands start to intermingle with the beach, people tend to lose the difference in translation. As it was part of the South that still suffered from systemic racism and fierce cultural pride, his home tended to spew out the worst of both worlds.
Whether he was above or below the stigma, Townshend had his own troubles. By nineteen, he was out of his parents house and traveling wherever short lived, low wage jobs could manage to take him. He never stayed any one place too long, and most people only managed to remember he was there for a few months after he left.
The big secret? Townshend hated people. He watched the dredges of humanity all around him growing up, hateful and intolerant of their fellow man. Whether it was the color of their skin or the way their voice sounded, Townshend watched innocent people beaten, chased from town, or worse.
So, when he finally snapped, he knew they would come for him. He managed to hide for months at a time, but someone who knew him- whether directly or by word of mouth- always seemed to get the word out.
Once he managed to get to New York, however, he met someone willing to offer him a safehouse, in exchange for his cooperation. He could hide, eat, and live in peace; as long as he was willing to enter the digital world of Terrasphere and learn how the game worked, its effects on the mind, and allow them to monitor his activities.
"We know what you did, and we are perfectly happy looking the other way, as long as you're willing to cooperate with us."
