@Eldhi Your words appear to cut deep. Although there was a chance the guard may not have taken the bait, he did. Turning toward you the guard snarled as he unsheathed his sword, intending on striking you with the pommel. "What did you say to me, you little whore?"

@Beretta Once the guard's attention has been enthralled, you found yourself awkwardly having to hop up onto the guard due to your height before you could snap his neck. A loud crunch and the sound of the sword and its sheathe dropping on the floor did confirm that you had managed to extinguish his life, however, the unresponsive mass staggered and fell backward, slamming you against the wall, dealing 1HP damage. (Roll: 86 success; 1 dmg)

    @Alphabet Chocolate While inspecting you, the emotionally-unavailable mage did not pay attention to the guard because given his state, he did not care much for the guard who was clearly riled up. When you attempted to hit him with the rock, your angle was completely off and as a result, it only nicked his ear before he quickly teleported backward, hitting the wall. (Roll: 41}

@Amane Hirota Spontaneously seeing Beretta succeed whereas Alphabet fail, you targeted the mage and blinded him right as he was about to fire off a spell.

While blinded, the mage whipped out his wand and shot off the spell in a random direction, which ended up hitting Alphabet (3), it manged to hit her (80), but merely nicked her cheek (1+1=2HP damage). The mage waved his wand around dangerously, threatening to fire his spell at anyone who approach him as his vision slowly return to him.

If you attempt to fight the mage, it requires 3 successes to subdue him. Subtract your HP depending on your roll. Roll at: (Roll) Imprisoned

Having done her part of the operation. Beretta by act of habit reached for where her gloves may have been and rubbed her wrists while cracking them since there were no gloves to adjust. That was simple enough. The man was larger than anticipated in the dark. How went the rest of the plan?

From the look of it... not as well as she had hoped. The mage was not subdued, it was obvious early on that Alphabet would be the weak link due to her age... she was either a very young child playing this game or someone who did not take it seriously enough to put full effort into a serious scenario. That personality type would prove a handicap here. Even with the success of the other two, letting a mage go free was going to make this complicated. Beretta's biggest fault? The agent was trained for gunfights and hand to hand combat. When the laws of physics or logic are bent out of wack... it becomes a free for all mess like Azog. All she can do is hope for the best in such cases.

    "...we have to improvise..."

Beretta shifted to attempt to finish the mage off but the blast of magic caught her in mid action. Firing wildly in the dark can be a pretty unpredictable hazard. Being blown back Beretta lowered her right knee and placed her hand on the ground to stop herself from slamming into the cell wall. This was... obviously a problem. A spell was let off and This was likely not the only guard.

Sigh... This is what they call a Code Yellow situation.

Action: Attempts to attack mage and fails.

Eldhi kept up her insufferable grin, not a trace of fear in her rebellious stance even as the enraged guard pulled out his sword. Oh yes, she realized being struck by his weapon would hurt, especially since she had no armor on her, but it wouldn't happen. Why? Beretta had already snuck behind him, poised to cleanly end him. "Heh..." Then, with a twist and a crack, the guard's neck was snapped, tearing his nerves. The traitor's life ended right then and there.

Immediately, Eldhi stood up and grabbed the dropped sword, feeling how the grip felt in her hands. With a proper weapon, the Paladin felt whole again. By instinct and muscle memory, her powers flowed to the sword, creating a searing edge coating the blade. The glow was weak and dim due to her hampered magic but it was better than nothing.

"Hmm?!" Turning around at the commotion, the red-eyed girl heaved an exasperated sigh. Who knew Alphabet would screw up on such a simple action? Now the mage was alerted, panicking around after the Felis Priestess' potent light blinded him.

"..." Narrowing her eyes, Eldhi tensed her limbs then made a charge at the disoriented cleric. Her respectable agility closed in the distance as a poorly-aimed arcane bolt narrowly missed her shoulder, that very same bolt would end up hitting Beretta instead. "Hyah!" With the momentum she gathered, Eldhi made a forward lunge, aiming to drive the light-coated blade through his gut.

The guard lay stiff and very, very much dead on the cold stone floors, his neck twisted at an odd angle. Thank goodness it was too dark for Amane to make out much details, but from what little she could see, there would be no hope for the man. They had just ended his life — ruthlessly, efficiently...and it was no heroic battle either. On the contrary, he hadn't had the slightest chance to fight back. Of course, the man was far from an innocent, but even so she couldn't delude herself by claiming that their actions were righteous or honourable. Necessary, yes...but this was murder, plain and simple, that she had just abetted.

She wondered, had there really been no other way? They could have knocked him out instead; but...no, this was the safest plan. Her teammates came first, she repeated internally. No matter what, she had to give them priority — in this world, loyalty had to come before compassion, if she wanted to be of use to others. Taking a deep breath, she recited the familiar words of an offensive spell, her mind racing elsewhere as she did so. The mage remained unsubdued, and regardless of the crisis she was facing, here and now they had no choice but to deal with him first.

Perhaps it was the magic dampening debuff, or even how distracted she was, but as Amane launched the spell towards the mage, it didn't have nearly enough power and accuracy to force him to break his concentration, and before she knew it a bolt of the mage's own magic was heading straight for her own face. She threw her hands up to intercept the blow — an instinctual, if futile, action — and it struck her head on, a trickle of her health vanishing as pain washed over her arms. Stumbling backwards, she threw a fraught glance at all her party members' health and energy, ready to heal at a moments notice if the situation called for it.

Action: Attacked the mage with partial success. (EN and HP for this cycle have already been subtracted).

"Yahoo!" Alpha grinned as she charged forward, raising the rock high above her head before she smashed it down the back of the mage's neck. The man was already weakened by Eldhi and Amane's blows, making sure her hit had been the final straw which broke the camel's back (or, in this case, neck). The wizard's head was twisted into an unnatural angle. His ringed eyes bulged out of their sockets as there was a distinct crack which echoed through the hollow cell. It was unlikely that he had survived the attack but Alpha wouldn't be surprised if he sustained his life.

It wasn't as if Alpha had any intention of questioning him or anything.

She looked over to the other members of her group with a grin as she scooped up the mage's wand and gave it a testing twirl. "Okay! Anyone wanna call dibs on the wand? I kinda just want the sword, to be honest! Their clothes are a bit too shabby for my exqui...exquie...exquisite tastes!"

Alas, despite Alpha's attempts to pronounce the word properly, the word 'exquisite' had been butchered into an incomprehensible mess that would remain indecipherable for the rest of humanity's existence.

@Eldhi 's sword stayed true on its course, running through the man's soft spot, pinning him against the wall while @Amane Hirota struck him with her offensive spell, granted, it didn't pack enough of a punch to finish him off, at least not until @Alphabet Chocolate went out of her way to smash her rock against the back of the mage's neck, who happens to be standing with his back against the wall (for reasons no one knows). That was enough to bring him down, and giving the group a chance to loot them.

There wasn't much in terms of loot, however, the armor was far too bulky for a group of slender girls who likely needed to eat more. The sword was of poor quality. Mage's rob had holes in it and far too big for any of the spellcaster; the wand was the exception, however, it would be a great weapon for a spellcaster. Most importantly was the ring of several keys that hung from the dead guard's belt. There was no labeling of any sort, so you're at a loss as to which key unlocks which door.

Regardless of how items are divvied up, the party can now go into the hallway. All numbers represent the door. [Diagram]
    • [ 2 , 3 , 4 ] Seems to be vacant cells.
    • [ 1 , 5 ] These cells seem to be locked and from what little light the party possesses, there appear to be people occupying them.
    • [ 6 ] This door appears wooden and not a cell. There is no light beneath it, indicating that whatever this room is, it is without occupant.
    • [ 7 ] This door also appears to be wooden and is opposite from 6. There is, however, light underneath the door. The party can assume this was where the guard and the mage came from.

With their combined efforts, the mage was skewered, arcane bolted, and smashed by a rock, sending the traitorous cur to hell! "Hmph." Eldhi had no respect reserved for such an enemy as she simply raised a foot, anchoring it against the cleric's body before she pulled out the guard's sword. Sounds of searing flesh echoed against the cell as the enchanted blade was removed from the dead man's gut.

Sparing not another glance to the two corpses, she turned to her fellow players. Alpha had procured the mage's wand but... it wouldn't take a detective like Beretta to figure out that Amane was the best user for the magical tool. "I think you can give it to Amane, Alpha." The Paladin suggested then gave a small apologetic smile, "Sorry but I need this, Alpha. Should we are under attack, I require the sword to properly guard you all."Still, she reached out her hand patted the Kunoichi's brown head, "The next time we find a dagger, you can take it."

With the scums dead and keys in Beretta's hands, there was no need to stay further. They had to leave and rescue anyone they came across, including but not limited to King Astor, the players must band together if they wanted to escape this forsaken place (and maybe burn it down as they left too). "Understood, Ma’am." The loyal knight nodded at Beretta's instructions, she was ready to serve and protect.

Leaving the cell together, Eldhi walked slightly in front of Beretta while the detective investigated the hallway. The Paladin could see other cells with metal bars and... not much else, who knows, most likely Beretta would notice something she missed. Meanwhile, she would focus on any possible hostile movements and stood between the attack and party if needed.

Action: Walks slightly in front of Beretta, keeping on the lookout, ready to be the first to tank initial attacks from possible ambushes.

With a crack of rock against bone the mage finally began to fall, his body slumping against the rock, like a marionette with its strings severed. An apt description, considering how...mechanical he had been acting prior to their attack, for lack of a better word. Amane couldn't tell if he was dead, and she didn't want to — a quick glance was enough to discern that his robes were of little use to them, but his wand was in good quality. "May I have it?" she asked Alphabet, holding her hand out for the rogue to deposit the rod in. "With this, I can hopefully compensate for the magic dampening."

If Alpha passed it over, she would give a short thanks, before twirling the wand in her hand. It was great to be able to wield a weapon again — going from casting with dual battle trinkets to nothing had been tricky at best, jarring at worst. They were still far from getting back to full gear, but this was a start. She checked the tooltip of the wand for any information it held, and for what kind of spells were stored in. If the mage was planning on using it to help Alpha, chances are there was a healing spell in there somewhere. One would be sorely needed: the constant spells were starting to sap her energy dry, and she couldn't be sure how long she could keep the party's health up if they ran into any more enemies.

Heading out of the cell, she paused to pick up the guard's torch with her free hand, holding it up to cast light on their surroundings. Taking care to remain in the center of the group, lest they get ambushed, Amane would follow behind Beretta as she did her business, chanting the words of a healing spell softly. As the last word left her mouth, light would swell around the warrior, before fading a short moment later, hopefully healing Beretta in the aftermath. With that done, the felis would go along with any further actions her party wished to take, all the while keeping her ears pricked for any approaching guards or odd sounds.

Action: Takes torch and holds it up to cast light on their surroundings. Checks her wand's info (either using investigation mode or through her inventory, whichever one shows the information better) to see what kind of cantrip it holds. Casts a single target healing spell on Beretta — if there's a healing spell in the rod, she will use it unless there are detrimental side effects. Otherwise, she will cast her own.

Alpha tossed the wand over to @Amane Hirota. "You do what you gotta do!" she shrugged. Afterwards, she trailed after Beretta with a skip, tapping her foot onto the stone floor every few seconds in a perfect rhythm and tandem to her own breaths. A small humming to the tune of For He's a Jolly Good Fellow echoed through the detrimental prison and, tilting her head curiously, she gazed at a pair of two wooden doors amidst a sea of cells. She inspected the door's hinges and looked around a few times to make sure no one was watching.

Finally, with a mischievous grin, she rapped on the door with quick, quiet blows. "Anyone there?" she whispered before looking back at @Beretta and @Eldhi for further instructions. Just because she was in a prison didn't mean that her right to free will had to be restricted as well. No jail can contain the might of Alphabet Chocolate!

Immediately Beretta went into investigation mode. Using her hunter mastery to increase her analysis abilities. Taking the keys in hand but generally not carrying anything extra. She checked to see if the game would give her any information on which keys did what or at least names. She shifted her sights to the wall the mage strangely was leaning against and then headed into the hallway with her team in tow. The cells were her goal here as she swept her agent's eye skill up and down the hall. The wooden doors were in the opposite hall. A good thing.

"Remember to keep quiet. The loud approach we heard earlier is evidence of more guards close by. We must retain the element of surprise."

She said this with a quick glance and nod to @Alphabet Chocolate , the child was not compatible with this kind of mission in the least. Beretta was not that experienced with kids but had worked with child players in other games. This one was a bit more difficult. It was a bit odd. She really felt no sense of urgency here? Perhaps she had completely separated this game from reality long ago.

Eldhi had gone to the front and that was acceptable. The knightly player felt she needed to act as a tank. If this went according to plan such a thing would not be needed... well it was a reassurance the player took this seriously. Amane was easily the most important member to keep alive. The felis was the source of healing and was very cooperative, not straying from protocol. Beretta appreciated it.

Then Beretta heard the tip tapping of Alphabet fading.. it was... going... the other direction?

"Hey... stick together please. We are heading for the cells."

Beretta reached out and grabbed the girl's raggy collar hoping to stop her before she did something catastrophic to the mission.

@Eldhi There was no surprise, although, your party was coming incredibly close to the door with light underneath and loud sounds.

@Beretta Improved investigation mode allowed you to differentiate the keys from one another and see which key go into which door, which was shown through a simple UI-based labeling system. What you noticed was that there was no key for door 7, most were only for jail cells around you and door 6.

When you looked at the wall, you see that there are runes embedded into the wall. Particularly, they hovered around 45% now, going downward. You recall that a mage pass by your cell and gesturing at the wall without checking on the cells at all, since it probably wasn't his job. Could that have been relevant, somehow?

@Alphabet Chocolate You knocked on the door, but there was no sound from it.

@Amane Hirota Investigation mode revealed that the wand simply had improved kinetic spell, which allow you to move objects and whatnot around. Though it had a mere one charge left before it needed to be recharged by its owner, so you'll have to make sure to use it effectively if a situation ever arise. Thankfully, you have a back up spell to use on @Beretta, only you could muster a 1HP heal.

Alpha, despite typically having a knack for following orders and instructions to a 'T', had a bit of trouble reasoning with herself as to why she should listen to Beretta's words. In spite of her easygoing demeanor, Alpha had been on-edge the entire time, plotting about revenge in the edgy pit of her mind (the one where she thinks about death metal and stuff). In the end, however, Alpha decided to enjoy a little rebellion. It wasn't everyday that she mustered up the courage to go against authoritative figures and, as she supposed, it was time for anarchy. She'd given an entire speech on that subject to Veradia once, after all.

She turned her head to pull her bottom eyelid down with a finger whilst simultaneously shoving her tongue out of her mouth in a mocking display before she cackled and twisted the knob on the wooden door. "Eldhi," Alpha grinned as she rattled the door's hinges with all her might. She tossed a mischievous smirk to her friend. "C'mon...open it! I triple-dog dare you!"

Subconsciously, her body braced itself for any hint of danger.

Leaving the cell proper, their situation was improving but the party of four females still wasn't out of the woods, not yet. The red-eyed girl kept her gaze on high alert to detect any dangers, using the dim glow from her sword and the torch carried by Amane as best as she could. Nothing of note had sprung up so far, however, it just made Eldhi even antsier knowing where they were. Something would go wrong sooner or later. As a proper knight, she must be ready to protect her comrades.

"Hmm?" Perking up towards the purple-haired detective, Eldhi listened to her next action plan. If there was someone she'd listen without (too many) questions, it would be Beretta. "Haa..." The Paladin sighed a little, Alphabet yes, even in this dire situation, the Kunoichi was plucky and random as ever, much to the chagrin of the everyone else. "Yes, Ma'am." After knowing what Alphabet intended to do, the Paladin didn't need to be told really, someone had to make sure the Ninja wouldn't get them all killed.

"Hey, hey, Alpha..." The taller girl went over to her "BFF", tapping her on the shoulder, clearly unamused by the little raspberry emote she did. "I highly recommend we don-..." Of course, before she even finished, Alpha immediately dared, no, triple-dog dared her to open the goddamned thing. "Urgh... Fine." Rubbing her face, she acquiesced. With a frown, she turned to Beretta, "Do you have the key for this door, Ma'am?" Oh, she did, good.

Borrowing the keyrings from the detective, Eldhi unlocked the door then gave the set back to Beretta. "Stay back, Alpha." Taking a deep breath, she stood in front of the door, right hand gripping the sword while her left took the knob. A momentary pause, "...here goes." then she opened it, red eyes wide open, limbs poised as if ready to brace for a lion's pounce.

Action: Borrows the keys from Beretta, uses the one for Wooden Door [6], unlocks it, then gives the keyrings back to her. That done, Eldhi would stand in front of Alpha as she opens the door with her left hand, while right hand ready for combat.

Beretta concluded it best to let Alphabet be managed with a somewhat looser leash since the agent had no energy for it now. The girl was completely... inept at this sort of endeavor. This was going to place the entire team and possibly everyone else who may be in here, in grave danger. In the end, it was a game to the girl and for Beretta this held true as well. If this was Tokyo, this sort of inability to follow procedure would be fatal to either their mission or their lives. Beretta had to be careful that this did not soften her training though. All of those VR programs she was put through... were meant to teach her to deal with these as seriously as possible. Sigh...

Eldhi was given the keys and she and Alphabet went about their business with the door. There was the small possibility of it being equipment storage which would be a boon for the team. Meanwhile during this, Beretta approached the cells and gazed inside. Being sure not to get within arms reach of whoever's inside.

"Stay quiet and I may help you escape. In exchange, we ask for your complete and total cooperation in the escape plan. Agreed?"

If Eldhi returned with those keys, Beretta would then make the clink together to tempt the prisoners into desperate agreement. Sadly, this short of thing was required at times.

It was unfortunate that she fumbled her spell — perhaps she was more shaken from their deaths than she'd thought, but by now it was too late. Her energy had been spent, even though the spell did little to heal Beretta, and it would be prudent not to squander what little she had left so early in their escape. The group split up on Beretta's instructions, though they never ventured far from each other: Alpha and Eldhi went to check on the dark room with the wooden door, whereas Amane chose to stick with Beretta as she investigated the cells beside.

There wasn't much she could actively do to aid her; it was clear that Beretta knew what she was doing, and what little aid she could offer wasn't significant enough to contribute to the task. And so while Beretta did what she had to and talked to the occupants in the cell, Amane spent her time constantly glancing between the hallways, her felis ears pricked for the slightest of sounds. With no more spells to cast in the meantime, she took the chance to rest and recuperate her strength.

Action: Keeps a ear out of any unusual/important sounds. Stays beside Beretta and tries to regain her energy if possible.
