Personality
Eryl is calm, cool, always assured of herself, and relaxed. She is the type of person you go to for advice, and always seems to know the right answer at just the right moment. She can always find a solution, and makes everything seem effortless. The down side of that is how incredibly Aloof Eryl seems most of the time. She is distant, starry-eyed and a space cadet if there ever was one. That’s pretty much the only thing Eryl and Aalin have in common. Aalin is often stressed out and too painfully shy to really know how to offer her advice. While Eryl is moderately outgoing, Aalin is deeply introverted. Eryl is in touch with her emotions and can always put words to what she is feeling, Aalin either doesn’t know or is too terrified to say it. Eryl’s emotional intelligence makes her great at working with people, Aalin rarely tries to get personally involved. What Eryl would call “prudence” in avoiding fights, some would call faithlessness. Eryl’s wisdom helps her be a great predictor of when things will go wrong, and when she predicts they will, she sees no problem with flaking with few exceptions.
Positive: Emotionally Intelligent, Wise, Calm, Adaptive, Eloquent, Persuasive
Negative: Aloof, Crafty, Faithless, Absent Minded, Selfish, Scheming
Biography
Aalin Snow was born to a middle class/lower middle class family in Seattle, the rainy city of the United states. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t stick around since her father, James, was an executive for a global construction company called Durasynthex. Durasynthex had James Snow traveling and moving across the globe every few months to every few years. And with him, Aalin and her mother were sure to follow. Of course that kind of life style is not condusive for making friends, so Aalin got used to forming weak ties that would quickly break and always being “that new kid.” To make friends and escape the physical world’s problems, Aalin turned to the virtual. She got pretty good at gaming, and the better she got, the more socially withdrawn she became. By high school, Aalin quit even trying to make friends or commit to social activities. The highlight of her day was tossing her backpack on the floor, popping on her headset and tuning into the VR.
Her gaming was so intense, it took Aalin weeks to noticed when her mom left her with her workaholic father. She didn’t care much anyway by that point since her mom was hardly home and spent more time in other beds than her own. Her mother figure was hardly missed. She hardly had to study to make B’s, and Aalin was fine with settling on those for school, as long as her hard-there father was content to not interfere with her gaming.
There was a time when her dad became so worried about her habit and lack of interest in talking to others he had her sent to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist put her on antidepressants and antianxiety meds when he managed to pry out enough words from Aalin’s mouth to diagnose her with social anxiety. Her dad was appeased to continue to throw money at the problem and “saw changes.” Aalin decided she didn’t like the way either of the meds made her feel and stopped taking them almost immediately. Her dad never noticed, but continued to shell out funds towards what he thought was her medication. In truth, it was only for Aalin to pay for better gaming equipment or music.
Eventually, of course, Aalin graduated from high school, and had to come up with some sort of plan since her dad expected her to. Aalin applied to several colleges half-heartedly and got accepted to most. She just took the first one that would cover most of her tuition with academic scholarships and moved on to more gaming. Two years into her undeclared degree, Aalin decided to become a digital artist and game designer. She liked games, after all.
Through her continual gaming, Aalin developed pretty much a secondary personality that served as catharsis for her social ineptness. Eryl would be able to articulate everything in Aelin’s mind that she couldn’t find words, but Eryl would only come out when Aalin put her VR headset on. Eryl was cool, calm, wise, skilled with people, and unflappable. Aalin liked how it Erylt to be Eryl, and would seek out to be Eryls as often as possible.
Eventually, Aalin needed to get a part time job to help offset additional college costs, let alone eat. She got a job in her college library as a cheap tutor, it was a way for her to make the funds she needed and she knew enough to help convey the information. Even if it meant dealing with people, Aalin was willing to put up with it.
Through her gaming, Aalin stumbled upon Terrasphere, decided to download it, and join in the game.
