Kaito’s cerulean eyes flicked to life, dark blue strands of his bangs mixing with the bright green canopy of leaves and branches above. His body felt stiff and new, once again crawling into a new form. But at the same time somewhat familiar as the half hour spend in the character creator was spent recreating the young man he played as so many years ago. He wondered if Richard, Alena and the rest of the staff were getting impatient during that time. And that realization made him remember he needed to check in with his team. Sitting up from what seemed to be a little nook in a large redwood-like tree, he took note of the simple tunic, leather breastplate, trousers and boots and how similar this game took notes from Aincrad. It was already beginning to make the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end as he slid open the menu to find the outside communication tab AmuSphere’s were made standard with.
[Alena, do you copy? I’ve made a successful shift into the game proper, over.] Kaito was directing his thoughts via a wordless “Whisper” system that MMOs had but after a few seconds of silence, a quiet panic was beginning to set in, [Alena, do you read me? The FullDive was a success. And… I have full body paralysis. I’m fully here in game.] More silence followed as the blue haired man took in a sharp breath, glancing around the area of this forest. He could hear the murmurings of others around him, between the forest as the occasional figure looking around in wonder and awe or the giggle and laughter of such an awesome world. It seemed like a strange place to have your players spawn into the world but the quiet reveal of others was purposeful. Past the treeline, he could see a sparkling pillar of light up towards the sky even in the middle of the day, like beacon to follow.
[… Alright. I’m going to continue to relay the situation going forward for posterity and in case you can hear me. It looks like the designers are giving players a subtle direction of where to start, so I’m going to follow that lead, over.] Kaito informed with a sigh as he walked forward in his new body. Past experience taught him that severely changing one’s appearance meant quite a readjustment period of literately walking in someone else’s shoes. Luckily he stuck with a height and body type similar to his own as he slipped past tree trunks, young saplings and underbrush towards the closest form of civilization.
Emerging on the other side, a small incline of a grassy knoll revealed what looked like a border town of some sort with wooden palisades and ribbons of brightly colored cloth giving off the spectacle of a festival of sorts. [Looks like a… greeting party of some sort for new players. So far no hostile NPCs, which is fine; we don’t have any weapons currently. Still going to keep my guard up for now. Hopefully the magic skill I picked up doesn’t require some sort of focus to use.] He relayed before humming softly to himself, [If that sounds weird, it’s… understandable.] Walking further into town, he could begin to tell who were computer characters and who were PCs by the extravagance of their design; every player in matching outfits but almost universally attractive in some way. Not that I’m one to talk. Kaito thought as he walked past his reflection in a gleaming metal shield, smirking a bit at his handsome, somewhat pretty boy appearance.
He heard the excited tones of players around him, probably many so used to artificial VR that they were too taken aback by the FullDive system to wonder just how realistic it could get. Though “realistic” to a point as every once in a while he’d see the pointed ears and soft features of what he gathered were elves and even the fuzzy ears on top of player’s heads and tail drifting behind them of what he gathered were Felis during character creation. One little thing probably unaware of just how she might have hit plenty of “affection points” with dark violet hair and amber eyes was speeding around, glancing at every vendor and item and practically jumping about like a toddler on her first trip to Disney World.
“Oh my god, this is awesome! Totally more than I expected!”
“Heh, better brace yourself then when you see your first major city. When you can create anything in one’s head, you can make worlds better than your own.” Kaito found himself responding to her own excitement from a little ways away, arm gingerly at his side in an air of familiarity and attempted coolness. “Hello lords an’ ladies! Might’cha need some refreshment of cider on this wonderful occasion?” Said a spry, lightly accented voice as bar maiden with a crown of wildflowers in her hair heaving a platter of wooden mugs. “Oh, uh, please!” Kaito reacted with a little surprise as he didn’t expect an NPC to interact first with him, grabbing two steins with a nod of thanks and offering it to the young looking cat girl. “We should count ourselves lucky getting that secret e-mail for this after all. Just… pace yourself, it’s going to get more exciting from here I bet. Enjoy the festival!” He didn’t know if she wanted to stick around or go exploring some more; it was only fair when a random stranger comes up to talk with someone. But he left it open for her to stay and chat, though keeping it civil was necessary. After all, he couldn’t exactly tell but she looked maybe ten years his junior, so he didn’t want to look sketchy. Or at least Kaito attempted to…
“Fantastic, this is just the thing I was looking for. Besides, who doesn’t love a good festival? Thanks kind sir, if ever you need a favor, don’t forget to call upon me. Aaron, Arron Steel, brave combatant and sexiest knight alive!”
Well, THAT is certainly a boast. Kaito thought as he heard a voice booming across the landscape of vendors and merry makers, a huff of a chuckle passing his lips as he thought he heard someone already in the roleplaying mood. Granted, when one was so immersed like this, it could be expected. Still, none of them looked anything else than Level 1 trainees, let alone valiant knights. But the massive guy seemed determined to make a day of this as they caught eyes and it Kaito could already see the beeline towards him. Oop, here we go…! He thought as a soft smile crossed his face.
"Aaron, Arron Steele, you play games often? I'm kind of new, but this seems fun, what do you think? I'm a bit unsure myself, wonder where we get our weapons and such... sorry I'm over here ranting. Didn't mean to be so rude."
“Oh, no, it’s cool. Day One of an MMO is a perfect excuse to throw modesty to the wind. Whoever made this game seemed to want us to have an exciting time.” Kaito responded as he toasted with the taller gentleman with a bit of a jock swagger, clinking with his wine, “Still, it is a bit strange to start us off with neither weapons nor armor to start with. I guess they want us to mingle and ask around, get us used to speaking with the NPCs about items or activities? That would be my first guess.” He bowed lightly to both Aaron and the cat girl if she was still around, “I’m Kaito Kitsuragi, there isn’t really classes per say that I can tell via character creation but you could consider me a ronin.”
