  1. The forest of Brisshal was no place for a lone bard. There were dangers lurking in the corners, threats that might be too fleet with their feet to outrun, but regardless she was here. Precisely what was she up to? Well, that wasn't so complicated. She needed to find timber. There was craftsman who might be willing to look into making her a quality violin, not the best, but something worthy of her at an affordable price if she was able to find him a specific tree.

However that was easier said than done. Even with the piece of paper in her hand that had detailed instructions, descriptions and even a portrait, it was hard to figure out precisely what color the tree would be.

Hence she was fluttering from tree to tree, like some indecisive chipmunk searching for a prized acorn nestled away from the elements.

This one however, a particularly large tree, seemed different from the rest. It was certainly alive, but there was a strange opening at the root. Curious, she took her lantern and ignited the wick with the use of splint and metal. The tongue of flame, magnified by the convex mirror and glass provided some illumination.

It was no flashlight, nor magic, but it would have to do. Carefully, she bent low, avoiding gnarled wood to peer into the depths. Was there more to this than she thought or was there going to be some rude awakening? Or was there going to be some treasure to be found if she followed the root?
