Madison had just fallen asleep when the storm decided to hit. Literally, eyes closed for ten seconds when the first thunderclap rattled her windows. The witch merely grumbled to herself and clutched a second pillow, burying her head underneath it in a futile effort to block out the noise.
Oh, right, she finally remembered--
this is still the dating simulator thing.
The storm continued to build outside, the wind blowing in the boughs of the dead trees, their branches scraping against the side of the manor, the rain pounding against the roof. A bolt of lightning flashed through the sky, illuminating the spacious bedroom and all of its very expensive-looking decor.
All Madison wanted to do was sleep. Screw finding someone to spend some time with; sleep was her one true love.
Okay, so sleep and food were her true loves.
...Sleep, food, and books.
And hiking in the forest.
The woman closed her heavy eyelids and began drifting off to sleep once more. This time, her rest was interrupted by a rattling coming from the window. It was a different kind of noise--not the wind pressing against the panes, but someone messing with the latch.
Madison's face scrunched up in annoyance.
My next date must be here. This had better be good.
She threw the covers off her and sat up in bed cross-legged, her pristine white evening gown covering her pale legs as she rested her back against the headboard. She looked expectantly at the silhouette creeping in through the window, taking shelter from the storm.
A flash of lightning briefly revealed the mysterious figure.
