Sera stared up at the night sky. Normally, on a night as warm as this, she would be enraptured by the beauty of the stars, and enjoying the fresh air. But tonight, she felt strangely cold, and the stars seemed dull and lifeless. It wasn't due to anything in the game world itself, she knew. No, it was the ache in her chest that was causing all of this pain. She breathed a heavy sigh and pulled open her menu. Early that day, she had tried to send Lucia a message, to be sure the woman was safe. But the system had told her there was an error, and her message could not be delivered due to the existance of a "closed instance", whatever that meant. She hadn't had a good day since that moment, and while she had tried to remain calm, everything had taken on a less-then-pleasant hue. She hit the button to send Lucia a message once more.
I really hope you're safe. I miss you.
She hit the send button, dreading the notification error to appear once again. However, this time, the message seemed to have sent perfectly fine. She sat up with a start and quickly hit the button to send a follow up.
OmG! I didn't think that would actually send, I had been trying to reach you all day! How is the raid going? Is everything okay? Are you doing fine? Did you get hurt? Are you still on? Do you have time to talk? Has it been dangerous? Have you done anything exciting? Will you be coming home soon?
Sera quickly hit the send button and stared at her inbox, her heart beating rapidly. Was the message only able to send because Lucia was no longer in the closed instance? If so, did that mean that she had gotten through it, or had she been hurt or killed and respawned? No, she knew the woman wouldn't have allowed herself to die so easily, and so she allowed herself to relax a bit. Still, she stared at her inbox expectantly, waiting desperately for an answer.
