A True Variant [invite]

Discussion in 'Floor 1-4' started by Kessler Cole, Oct 31, 2016.

  1. Kessler heaved a sigh knowing that this would be the harder part as he began running towards the goblins once more. Glancing back to Marzipan, he gestured at her while charging forward towards the formation. Kessler knew what to expect from it but it never got any easier. With a sharp throw of his last stone, he tried blowing a small hold in the formation once more, the twenty goblins came together to try and resist the charge, but after blowing one of the goblins back again with a sharp thrust from the stone, there was a small enough hole for Kessler to step into. With a twist of hips hips, he thrust a palm forward into the pushed goblin to thrust it further back into it's companions trying to punch through all 4 layers of the formation.

Stepping into that hole, the ones on the side wouldn't just allow him to do as he pleased, charging towards him, Kessler could only thrust his hands up trying to thrust the two sides of the phalax to the sides in an effort to get more room. Though he felt claws skim past his face and side, blood was only drawn from his cheek as he tried to thrust his way deeper into the formation not worried about killing them, but worried about separating them as much as possible for Marzipan as he forced his way in. Cutting through and deeper, he tried to ignore the injuries building up from the group staring at the goblin in the back who was staring back at him roaring out in a language that no human could understand as he organized the goblin's efforts to try and thrust him back out from the center.

Marzipan nodded and charged forward into the phalanx, intending on slicing up the goblins that had moments before harassed a group of adventurers. The creatures had readied their weapons as she did so, meeting their fierce expressions before her swords hit some of the formation's members.

She tried to fight through the organized crowd, slicing with her weapons with a grim expression on her face. They needed to capture the leader alive, but would it turn to flee if there were only a few goblins left? She hoped that wasn't the case, but she possibly had the speed to chase it down and tackle it.

The weapons and claws of the goblin army raked against her skin and her armor as she fought, giving them what for. She twisted and turned this way and that, trying to get to their leader that was shouting out something in its own language. She never knew that monsters had their own languages and it perturbed her that they did.

  3. Kessler's brow knit as he tried to force his way past, he got far enough to reach the back line of goblins with his hand when the leader that was the variant turned to try and leave. Seeing it, Kessler grit his teeth knowing he wouldn't make it to the leader in time to stop him by avoiding the blows of the Goblins around him. Gritting his teeth, he stopped caring, letting Berserk Fury trigger to ignore the pain as he was stuck by claws and bitten by teeth, he grabbed onto one goblin's shoulder, and with a sharp twist of his body he tried to sharply pull the Goblin off of it's feet.

Letting the power build up in that twist, he kept his grip on the goblin tight as he pulled it around. Taking a step forward using it as a club to sweep away the final line of goblins, Kessler pivoted on his heel and instep for another swing around before trying to throw the goblin at it's leader to slow it's retreat. The creature was like a human missile flying after the variant that was trying to escape knocking it off of it's feet, for a moment the pair struggled to try and figure out what had happened and get themselves back together but it was that time Kessler needed to buy.

"Go-- Don't kill it, just make sure it can't keep running." He spoke clearing a path for the girl to chase after it intending to bar the path of the small squad for the moment while they slowed the Leader down more. He wasn't sure if Marzipan had ranged equipment either to be able to slow it down, but he could only hope she had a method after he exhausted his clearing a path and slowing it up to this point.

Marzipan forced her way through the goblins as their claws raked at her body. She didn't care, though. She needed to get to the variant and she needed to get to the variant now! She slashed at any goblins that were in the way as she tried to get herself through to reach their leader, who she no longer could see.

Her ears twitched as she heard Kessler's call. "On it!" she said as she dashed through the goblins, grunting as they clawed at her and tried to stop her from pursuing their leader. She began to do little hops, jumping on a goblin's face or back before dashing forward to reach the variant. Her speed was incredible at that point and she slammed one of her blades down in front of it as it finally managed to get itself untangled by its minion.

"Okay, now hold-" She used the end of her hilt to knock the creature down again. "...Still!" She sat on both goblins as she rummaged through her bag for the rope. She began to tie the creature up, first binding its feet, then binding its hands. "Hold still, damn you!" she cursed as the other goblin tried to wiggle itself free from the confines of her butt.

  5. Seeing Marzipan chasing after the goblin variant, Kessler was a bit more relieved, he didn't really want to have to be the one storming off after it himself. Instead, he reached towards the goblins attempting to slow Marzipan down and tried to thrust them aside and shook the goblins off of his own body. He could feel a few blades penetrating his cloak and cape here or there thrusting into his body. Fortunately they didn't get through his leather or plate as well and just crashed into his body as blunt or scraping blows. He still sighed, the pain was something he was familiar with, but while his skill was triggered, berserk fury ensured that pain never disrupted his ability or thoughts.

With a sharp turn he lifted a foot trying to swing himself around through the goblins thrusting them back forcefully, violently even as he began trying to hack down the goblins who were scattered before they could run back and try to help their would be leader. Kessler's hands swung in large sweeps, cleaving through goblin flesh several at a time, ripping into the first around the head, his strike dipped cleaving through the chest of the one beside it, before lowering further into the stomach of the third. Continuing on with these kinds of sweeping strikes, he ripped through them as they tried to advance. The only ones that made the job hard were the few who were clever enough to try and clash with him claw for claw since he wasn't yet at a point where he could split a goblin's claw so easily.

Seeing Marzipan struggling to stop it from wiggling though, he couldn't help a dry laugh, the girl wasn't as experienced with combat he thought, non lethal or lethal, it made him concerned but ultimately he shouted back to her. "Trade places." He urged thinking that the girl might struggle more with such a job, she might have an easier time fighting then struggling with the goblin variant. Turning back after cutting into the last of the line he was working his way through, he turned back to try and trade places with Marzipan to let her finish off the last of the goblin's soldiers while he captured the creature.

Marzipan looked up at Kessler when he said they should trade places. True she was having a small bit of trouble wrangling the variant goblin, but at least she was able to do it while sitting on him. She was just worried that in the time between trading places, the regular goblin underneath her would try to untie the variant. Still, she decided to go for it.

"Got it!" She sat up suddenly and, using her swords that had been moved to the side, proceeded to stab the regular goblin's wrist so that it wouldn't be able to use its hand to untie the variant. She hopped back and charged into the mass, slashing at them once she got closer. She began to use both her swords expertly to hold the goblin's back. Hopefully Kessler would be able to handle the variant better than her.

  7. Kessler couldn't help a somewhat bashful smile seeing Marzipan's efforts, it looked like his training session might be more helpful for her then he originally thought. Trading places, he nodded as he passed her, leaning down as his pace quickened, toes digging into the earth for more traction so he could move fast enough to outrun his body falling forward into the ground. Bringing his upper body down to the ground, he clawed into the stone floor as he ran casually whipping stones at the goblin pair that were struggling, pelting them with stones, focusing on their faces and heads. It was a tough choice, forcing them to take more critical damage if they wanted to take a few steps to escape leaving them with little choice; defend their heads or be dazed as they take uneasy and unproductive steps to escape.

Though one Goblin tried his best to support the variant, Kessler thrust himself through the goblin with a sharp clawing motion and reached forward for the variant trying to grab it by it's scruff. It wouldn't be enough to restrain the monster, but Kessler didn't intend for that to be the end. Instead, after he'd thrust an arm around it's neck clenching down, one hand behind, one arm around the front he forced the creature's neck to tighten in the bend of his elbow cutting off the circulation as he held onto it. Pushing it down it struggled and kicked for a short while longer, feeling claws in his leg and shins, it didn't take long for the struggling to go quiet, all of 8 seconds before it was out as Kessler expected. Letting go, he'd begin tying up the unconcious goblin like a bound package or tied coy before trying to hoist it up over his shoulder. "That's it! We're getting out!" He shouted to Marzipan trying to make sure she heard him over the sound of the fighting.

Marzipan's ears twitched as she heard that Kessler had gotten the variant to quiet down some. "Alright, let's get through these goblins as best as we can!" she shouted as she continued to slice away at their forms. She tried her best to clear a path through the remaining goblins so that they could flee the vicinity with the variant in tow. Once that was done, she beckoned for Kessler to come and make a break for it.

Once she knew he was running out, she began to follow him and the two ran away from the now disorganized horde of goblins that were still trying to get their bearings now that their leader, the variant, was gone. She made sure to check behind her every so often to see if they were being followed as they made a break for it.

  9. Kessler ran after her trying to make it through the small formation of goblins once more hoisting the variant onto his shoulder, when he approached the group that Marzipan tried to cut open for him, he turned his shoulder towards the goblins. With a sharp thrust he tried to bulldoze through them fiercely in an effort to blast through without stopping. Hand forward to sweep goblins out from the way he didn't seem to care very much for them now that the job was done. "Just go!" He shouted as he broke through pushing goblins down if he had to to make it over them with a leap.

Running with Marzipan, Kessler would take glances back at the goblins as well, if any were following, he'd reach down cleaving out stones to whip back at them to slow them down so they wouldn't have to sprint too heavily. If nothing else, Kessler's technique for improvising was hard to debate as he chased after Marzipan with a relieved smile on his face. It was over, even if he had a great many cuts and gashes, it wasn't anything when his skill pushed him forward like a machine. "Are you okay?" He'd ask back worried about Marzipan's injuries, thinking she didn't have a skill set like him, his concern wasn't unwarranted.

Marzipan herself, once they were at a safe enough distance, began to slow to a trot. She didn't realize how exhausted she felt. Looking down at her body, she noted that some bits of her clothing were ripped and that some of the rips had blood seeping out from them. "I'll be fine," she said, "Can tend to these later."

She glanced back, noting Kessler had the goblin slung over his shoulder. "That thing knocked out? I don't want to hear it whining all the way when we get back to the surface." Her gaze turned forward again. "Let's get this over with and go." The Hume Bunny kept her swords out in case they were attacked, though it seemed things will be smooth sailing from here on out.
