Hel is a dollish girl with a posture that is often at times at odds with her youthful appearance. She packs a hard and discerning gaze that can make evident her shrewd and discerning nature. Forlorn and wistful, when something catches her interest she tends to become more animate. A proud and petite princess packing all the wisdom of the long lived dead.

As a Goddess of The Underworld, Hel is a being well divorced from life and some aspects of this nature continue to plague her human form. Hel can appear uncanny and wraith-like to those unfamiliar with her, has a low presence which can cause her to sneak up on others, and her touch is always cold.

Hel is a proper lady who can easily come across as cold and detached. Much of this stems from the fact that Hel is someone who is incredibly, incredibly bored. Always seeking to break the mundane, Hel takes pleasure in new experiences and learning about new things.

Possessing an even mind and a steady hand, Hel is an excellent counselor who carries with her the endless stories, advice, and wisdom of those who were able to live successfully to the end of their days. Hel also carries with her the regrets of the unfortunate which offers her a wide if not dour perspective on the complexities of human life. Though it may not appear so, Hel enjoys acting in this capacity as she often feels quite lonely.

Regal and proud, Hel operates under the philosophy of nobelesse oblige and as such she feels an extreme duty to her people who she refers to as The Passed Over Dead. A term, she feels, well describes what she feels are souls left abandoned by those other Gods who would prefer the shorter-lived glories.

Hel is also someone used to being served, and with this long history of comfort comes a sometimes prickly personality of equal parts haughty attitude and a demanding nature. Hel can be at times immature and when feeling scorned generally shows this negative side of herself through passive aggression.

Though Hel is wise, as a consorter with the dead in an isolated realm she is also dated. She is naive to the ways of the world and can at times meet current cultures with a great deal of confusion. This can be a major danger to her familia as Hel can sometimes operate under misconceptions which can leave her holdings vulnerable. As much as Hel would seek to look out for others, she is also in dire need of those who would watch over her in turn.

    Biography

One of the 3 children of Loki supposedly prophesied to bring the world to ruin in a war of Gods. To prevent any future trouble from occurring she was cast by Odin into Niflheim and given authority over the 9 worlds to oversee the dead who were not be chosen by Odin and Freya, namely the fully lived and those unfortunate enough to fall to sickness, famine, and disease.

Oft overlooked or forgotten, Hel was one of the last to receive news of the Gods' descent to live amongst the mortals. More than a little bitter over this late arrival of very important news, Hel was none the less further shocked that such politics have given her such an easy escape from the frigid realm in which she has been imprisoned since her earliest memory.

Hel seeks to establish herself on 'Midgard' more as a matter of defiance than anything else. The Familia system interests Hel a great deal as it affords her the means to assert what she feels is her right to the natural course of souls often plucked from her grasp by the likes of Odin, Freya, and other choosers of the slain.

For all her posturing, however, Hel is perhaps the deity with the least amount of experience in the mortal realm, what she knows she knows from stories and second hand knowledge. She has few friends, and her connections to other Gods begin well behind the other more historied deities that have had the opportunity for long years of cohabitation.

Of Hel's kingdom itself, it is a surprisingly wealthy and comfortable place for all who dwell there. If there is any trouble at all, it is that death has made the place painfully stagnant. Hel labors to change this as her subjects are each dear and precious companions, but it is ever an uphill climb for the unusual Goddess to fully understand the hearts of others.
