Merik Newglaw Race:Chienthrope Age: 20 Sex: Male Sexuality: Hetero Relationship: Single Merik has a very gruff and rough appearance, his shirt is usually stained with something and his outfits are often ragged. His style of clothing clearly shows that he either takes things that are discarded or wears hand me downs from others who no longer need their clothes for some reason or another making his appearance tattered. Despite this, Merik has a very bright spirit and glow about him that inspires good from his peers even if his expression seems to be twisted into a permanent scowl or pout. Height: 5’7” Build: Sturdy & Strong Personality Merik acts very much like a loner, preferring to keep others his age at an arm's length, he has very little interest in them and tries not to get too wrapped up in their lives. He's extremely distrustful of those he considers adults, his peers fall under a lot of scrutiny and he easily judges people depending on how old they look becoming more reserved and frosty the older they seem. Around children, Merik is very warm and open, he has a friendly and kind laugh you might expect from a father or big brother and treats them with a respect he wouldn't give adults. Merik has little motivation for fighting, and instead tries to focus his attention on bettering his craft and rounding out his talents to be able to provide for the people who are important to him. While Merik is a slacker in everything he finds uninteresting, he merely needs the right guiding hand to show him a proper and more righteous path. Positive: Patient, Flexible, Streetwise, Independent, Rational, Loyal Negative: Inconsiderate, Lazy, Possessive, Selfish, Uncouth Biography Merik was abandoned as a child, though his story was far from the dark of most orphaned children, Merik found himself living a happy childhood despite the problematic start. His parents he naturally found out were good people who merely couldn't afford to bring him up and instead lived a life distant from him trying their best to cheer him on instead. Though initially hurt by this realization, as Merik grew, he stopped holding it against them understanding the rigors of earning a living in the slums. Merik grew up among a small commune of children, each one looking out for each other, each one abandoned much like he was. There were older children who functioned as the adults, earning wages and supporting the younger ones through life while the younger ones tried their best to learn or collect scraps or pick pockets to help each other survive. This however caused a chasm to form between him and adults from a young age, those who used him for cheap labor and scammed him honed his mind and made him clever and patient. Learning who to work for and who to scam, Merik became someone who was very adept at reading a face and came to trust adults even less the better he got at seeing through their lies and schemes. He took jobs as an apprentice where ever he could and made efforts to learn tricks of every trade he managed to wiggle his way into. Each time he learned something he brought it back to his small commune and taught it to those younger then himself and slowly they grew from there. Over time, Merik's way of life couldn't continue, as the older boys and girls began to drift apart, try to form families of their own or died as adventurers it left holes that needed to be filled. As Merik grew he naturally fell into this role as well, becoming an adventurer to help earn money for the commune fighting hard and sweating to try and keep them afloat. It was only when he was fighting as an adventurer that he finally respected the trouble those who went before him had to deal with. He gained a new appreciation for those older children who were forced into the dungeon much like he was. While others drifted away from the commune and found lovers or adventurer friends to make a life with, Merik himself couldn't find it in himself to latch onto others. He lacked the same filter that his companions seemed to have that allowed trust over time, instead, Merik grew colder and more closed off from those he felt he couldn't trust and tried to train others to help him pick up the slack. It was during this time that Merik began trying to refine his ability to craft tools and weapons to support those who fought with him; not wanting to lose anyone else to the dungeon who could support their group. He tried to take as much as he could from his smithing job to provide for those dungeoneering kids, but in the end, even they would also begin to drift apart. Now, as an adult himself, Merik looks to the uncertain future with worry but also understanding, no doubt he too might someday drift away from his compatriots, he only hoped that when that day comes, it would be for the right reasons and he would be able to leave them the mementos they need to survive.
