Orphan's Ordeal

Discussion in 'The Slums' started by Hestia, Oct 29, 2016.

Hestia had been busy buying groceries for the children of the orphanage. She lugged the cart through the narrow streets of the slums, turning every so often. It was nothing new to her, buying all this food and drink from the shops in the trading district. Lugging around a cart to carry all she had bought was nothing new to her, either. But this time, she had been a bit more frugal, taking only what they needed for simple meals and not anything fancy.

She frowned. They were running low on funds and though she worked hard as a maid part time, it was not enough to supplement the costs. Rather, she would have to work even harder to make sure that everyone had decent clothing and enough food to last them for a while. And if she had to take more unsavory tasks, she would do it, as long as it didn't hurt anyone but herself.

She spotted the orphanage and hurried forward, bringing the cart up close to the gates. She opened the gate with one hand and dragged the cart through. The grass and stones underneath her feet bent as she moved toward the orphanage. She set the cart down and heaved out a sigh. She was finally home.
