Shadow of a thief (open)

  1. Shadow of a thief

Shigure did not fully like to steal from hard working people. But as she sat on the rooftop balcony of a large restaurant, her nose taking in all the mixtures of scents of food was getting to her stomach. A low growl escaping from her stomach as she held it with her left hand quickly looking around behind her black mask like she was giving her location away because of her growling tummy. How long had it been since she had last eaten that would have caused the growl? She could not even recall when she last ate, and with little thought she slowly rose, her black cloak drifting east slowly as she looked for a food she liked.

Now paying someone to get the food was good and all, and she would have, but she had no gold to give them. Feet slowly sliding down the roof tiles before she jumped to the floor below and ducked into an alley as quickly as she could. Her eyes set on her target as she lowered her center of gravity and got ready to make her move. Muscles tensed quickly before she shot forward hands pulling her smoke bombs off her arms and getting ready for the quick steal. It was the same motion she made in the dungeon against single targets, aside from the fact she was not going to be cutting anyone unless she had to. Her figured lowered just a bit more before eyes locked cold on her target and she made her move.

Muscles released bent up pressure as she shot forward left arm quickly flicking forward releasing a smoke bomb over the meat cart engulfing it in smoke as she rushed into the cover. Legs tensed before she began a spiral front flip over the grilling area of the cart. Her free hand quickly snatching up three shish kebab with only meat and one with a few grilled vegetables before she landed on her feet with her legs tensing up again before she bolted as the smoke started to clear. At first the shop owner was just wondering what happen, but seeing some of his food missing and a figure running away he did the same thing they all do.

”Someone catch that thief!” Shigure gained a sour expression across her face under the mask as she heard people started to pursue her. Right hand flicking forward as her second smoke screen would have to be used for such a small thing like getting some food to keep herself going. The bomb however was offset and bounced into a alley rather than a crowd like Shigure had planned because she felt the pressure getting to her on a low stomach. Slowing down before she bounced right dodging a diving citizen trying to stop her escape.

Both hands now free she quickly started to scale the wall. Her eyes moving quickly during her climb to keep finding each area she could get some grip hold to let her scale the three story building rather than use the ladder a few feet behind her smoke screen. Right arm gripping the roof ledge as she pulled herself up and flipped to get her feet to the ground and started running across the rooftop and away from the meat cart. Her only hope right now was to escape any pursuers so she could eat in peace. The sooner she lost them, the sooner she could eat her food before it got cold.

    Actions taken:
    • First action - Shigure runs forward towards the cart throwing a smoke bomb to cover some of her approach.
    • Second action - Shigure performs a quick spiral front flip under the smoke cover taking a total of four shish kebab before landing on the opposite side of the cart and running again.
    • Third action - Shigure throws down a second smoke bomb at the entrance of the ally opposite of her entry point and rushs into it before going up the side of a building.

Drifter's cloak: [Cloak | I-Rank] A lightweight black cloak worn over Shigure's body at almost all times outside or places she does not want to be at. A hood, to cover her head making her rather suspicions looking character. The black mask that is often over her face with this cloak does not help.

Shuriken: [One handed | I-Rank] Small sharp throwing stars. Each is made from a black steel and rather thin. However this allows them to be light weight, and easy to carry a great number of them at any time. Having two small hip bags on each side, each holding roughly thirty Shuriken. sixty remaining

Tetsubishi: [One handed | I-Rank] Also known as small spikes, these little pains to pick back up are Shigure's trap to set around when she has smoke cover. Each one roughly the size of a spinning nickel, they don't hurt much alone but when you step on ten or so it gets annoying. Carried in a medium hip bag against Shigure's back and roughly one-hundred of these tiny spike balls are kept within. The back side of the bag, facing away from Shigure has a small flap that can be opened to leave the spikes behind her in sets of ten. 100 remaining

Kemuri bakudan: [One handed | I-Rank] Also called 'smoke bombs' These little dollar coin sized orbs are kept around Shigure's upper arm and roughly ten to each side. While small they can be thrown down at the ground to make a smoke screen large enough to hide even some of the largest adventures. great for escapes or using as cover to set something else up. 8 remaining

  2. The transition from his solitary life in the wilderness into that of a city-dwelling adventurer had not been easy on Amiraak. The noise and energy of the densely populated city constantly frayed at the hunter's nerves. Its people were strange and, as the young man had come to learn, a vast majority of them were weak and untrustworthy. Still, Amiraak had managed to strike up a cordial relationship with a single, albeit very helpful man named Oswald. Oswald was an unusual man who claimed to be an 'entrepreneur', which as far as Amiraak could tell meant that he found every way possible to make money while simultaneously upsetting everyone he could.

Today Amiraak had been begrudgingly roped into the man's latest enterprise: A meat cart. During his time in solitude Amiraak had developed a knack for salvaging and cooking anything that might even be remotely edible, a talent that Oswald was quick to leap onto once he had discovered it. Before he knew it Amiraak was behind a cart cooking meat for anyone who had some small amount of coin to spare, though luckily any of the actually 'business' was taken care of by the ever charismatic Oswald.

Little did the passersby know that the tasty and almost suspiciously affordable meat they were enjoying was that of the goblinoid variety. Freshly collected by Amiraak and Oswald, the meat initially had an unpleasant chewy texture and oily taste but when properly cooked it transformed into a strangely addicting snack. Unfortunately the meat also tended to produce an unpleasant gurgling and gassy experience to people who ate too much of it, an effect Amiraak was unaware of considering his constitution. Still, despite this effect the cart had been doing surprisingly well. At least until everything went up in smoke... literally.

Amiraak stood dumbfounded as the entire cart was suddenly enshrouded in acrid smoke, a thin hand snatching the kebabs he had just prepared as a lithe form spun past him in a blur. Completely out of instinct Amiraak spun and lashed out at the form with his dagger but it was too late. By the time the hunter had clear the radius of the smoke the thieving figure had already darted into the crowd. Were it not for the sudden motion of a man diving after the thief Amiraak may not have even known which direction to chase.

"Someone catch that thief!", came the voice of Oswald over the crowd even as Amiraak was already dashing after them. Another plume of smoke burst into existence as the thief dashed into a now shrouded alleyway. However, once he had cleared this cloud he was met with... nothing. The alley ended abruptly into a dead end with no thief in sight, though the only natural conclusion led the hunter to look up just in time to see a black cloak scrabbling over the lip of the roof.

Anger flared to life inside Amiraak as he let out a low growl, his form suddenly shifting to something not entirely friendly as fiery red fur sprouted out from his body in a wave. Claws dug into the crevices of the wall as his now lithe body sprang up the wall in bounds, completely ignoring the ladder much like his quarry had before him. While not the most graceful of climbs, his ascent was quick and in a great scrabbling of claws he lifted himself over the edge. Once onto the roof he took a short moment to rest as scanned the area. It did not take long to spot his quarry running across the otherwise barren tiles.

"This prey is fast", he remarked quietly to himself, his voice marked an oscillating under like that of a yipping dog. The desire to chase and kill his mark ran hotly through his mind. He knew this to be an effect of his transformation, though he hardly needed the motivation to leave the crowds and cooking behind. Amiraak rose quickly and resumed the chase. As he did so he picked up a loose piece of broken tile. At some point the thief would have to jump down to a lower elevation or attempt to climb higher, in either case that was when the distance would close enough for the young man to level a good throw at them. A good strike to the back, head, or leg should be enough for Amiraak to close the distance and make his catch

    Actions:
    • Was rudely interrupted while cooking delicious meats. Slashed at thief to no harmful effect.
    • Chased thief into a seemingly empty alley, but spotted the black cape flipping onto the rooftop.
    • Transformed into Kobold Were-Form to climb and chase quickly.
    • Picked up heavy broken tile piece with the intent to throw when the opportunity arises.

  3. Shadow of a thief

Shigure was honestly not expecting any to be able to scale the building quick enough to catch where she would duck and hide into next. But hearing the sound of footsteps heavier than her own on the roof was enough to tell her she was not alone and still needed to do her best and top speed while having a low energy. Approaching the roof's ledge as she seemed ready to jump down judging from her crouched position, but a moment later she sprung forward rolling mid air and drawing out four of her throwing stars from her small bags. Knee scraping across the next roof as she used her other leg to spin herself to face the other figure.

Black mask looking them roughly dead in the eye before her sleeves rustled and four shuriken went towards the male. Her aim not always the best thing when distance was counted in, one sailing well over his head, a second just a bit shy to the left of his left shoulder, but the other two sailed right for his torso. Slowly dragging herself up to stand as she leaned heavily on her left leg, her right wounded for the chance to maybe detour her pursuer. "Stop chasing now, or you won’t be walking away!” The feminine voice shot harsh words from behind the mask before she turned and tried to keep running.

Even if she had managed to deter her pursuer she would soon fall to her bad knee approaching the next roof ledge and tumbling over. Her mind flicking with hate for herself, left hand pulling out one of her tanto before slamming it into the wall holding her in place. She felt her arm surge for only a moment with pain as she hung there looking downward. Her food falling to the ground below in a small puddle of mud before she tried to get her tanto free from the wall. With no luck she let go of her weapon and did a poor job jumping between the alley to slow her descent, ultimately falling down on her bad knee again as she tried to get up.
    Actions taken:
    • First action - Shigure runs to the end of the rooftop before crouching down.
    • Second action - Performs a roll mid air while drawing four shuriken from her bags.
    • Third action - Throws Shuriken (Second paragraph)

  4. Violet eyes suddenly glared back at him as Amiraak's prey suddenly spun mid jump, catching him off guard as they sent four small gleaming shards of metal in his direction. It was good fortune indeed then that the prey seemed to have misjudged her leap resulting in a low spin and poor aim. However, just as the unstable footing had thrown off his opponents aim it had also made it difficult to dodge as two of the small bladed weapons plugged themselves into Amiraak's thick leather jacket. He hissed as the pain in his chest announced that at least one of them punched through enough to bite shallowly into flesh. Luckily whatever she had thrown were light weapons, not heavy enough to produce more than superficial wounds on anything that was not light cloth or exposed skin. The hunter breathed out his frustration as he yanked the metal shards off of his chest and pocketed them; he wanted to take a closer look at them later.

Amiraak rose and approached the roofs edge cautiously as he was greeted by violet eyes once more. "Stop chasing now!", she warned before turning away, though anyone could tell by the determination in his eyes that Amiraak was unfazed. She had stolen directly from the man with audacity to do so right in front of him. Whether she had intended to or not, she had called him weak and he would see her punish whether it took him hours or days. This is why just he now took his time to test footing and judge distance before leaping across the gap, regardless of whether she would gain distance. He was gaining her scent now and could follow it easily.

Knowing this perhaps you could understand his surprise when he saw his quarry crouched in the mud at the bottom of the next alley. Had she been injured in her descent? The thought disgusted him. The boy's number one rule of survival was to not risk injury where avoidable. Boaz were often alone with only themselves to rely upon, an ill-timed wound could result in the inability to hunt for weeks and any open wound risked sickness. The thought that this female would be so quickly injured meant she was either sick or careless and in either case it drained the thrill from the chase. Of course, she had attacked him once so it could also be a ruse. He decided to be cautious as always.

"Is this really worth dying over?", he asked brusquely down at her, intending to see if words could stir her into action once more. He would not try descending three stories with an enemy beneath him so he opted to simply observe, eyes constantly flicking between the thief and the walls of the alley in search of a safe route down. "Admit your failure and perhaps I will overlook your insult and not kill you."

  5. Shadow of a thief

Shigure would refuse to admit defeat in her task, while she lost her food she had stolen to the dirty water, she was not going to be captured without a fight. Right arm reaching into her cloak as she thought of the best tool to use in this situation. Eyes scanned the area before she noticed a small storm drain that no doubt led to under the city. Rushing towards it as she drew her third smoke bomb, an annoyed expression under her mask for having to use her more expensive tools before throwing it at the drain covering the area with smoke.

Luck slightly favoring her as a horse drawn cart passed the alley giving her a second choice of action. Arm pulling the drain up before slipping in and closing it as quickly and silently as she could before going about the underground network of the city. Right arm moving a small flap on her bag as she left a few spikes at the base of the storm drain where she landed before sprinting across the wet ground. Gaining as much speed as she could before she started to run along the wall removing the sound of her steps.

To be fair, she only had been underground for a few times before, so her knowledge of the layout was vague. Walking along a dry patch of the sewer before she slipped into the next passageway and hid in a small outdent in the area to hide her body. Kneeling down she held her left arm and looked towards her knee to assess the damage. "Left arm dislocated, Right knee scraped … four shuriken used, three smoke bombs used, and ten spikes used… All for food i never got to eat…”

She leaned her back against the wall as her stomach growled. Even if she was still being chased she was out of energy, and her body was not wanting to move as well as she wanted and needed it to for this area. Her legs sticking out the small area as she just chose to sit and wait it out. If he still wanted to chase her into the sewer, if he even consider her picking it rather than the horse drawn carriage anyways. A shallow breath as she applied pressure to her left arm and got ready to relocate it.

    Actions taken:
    • First action - Smoke bomb cover over sewer entry and near a horse drawn carriage.
    • Second action - Spikes set at base of sewer drain.
    • Third action - Poorly hiding behind a small indent of the wall.
