Night Shift Night approached, the remaining time of the day when the abnormal locals came into the tavern. Mostly the criminals, heavy drinkers, and stressed entered at this time. This was the time Yuu was assigned to work due to the other workers not able to handle the aggressive pressure received from the customers. Luckily though, Yuu was promoted to night manager, giving him the ability to hire workers only for the night shift. The night was steady going by, Yuu rubbing down the counters, irritated by every wipe. He hated the job, but he got paid normal salary for it and normal salary was minimum wage in Orario unless you're royal scum who feed on the poor and don't pay taxes like the country is ran as an estate. Whipping down the counter, removing the alcohol stains left by bad mannered civilians, a elderly man sat down in front of him. "Hello sir," the man spoke, his voice weak. "I would like some water," he ordered, looking at Yuu from under his gray bangs. Yuu, irritated even more, sighed in distress. "If you want water, why dont you head to the exotic water store across the way." he questioned the elder man, clutching onto the towelette. The man placed his wrinkled finger up to his dry lips, then snapped. "You know what young man, I think I'll head to the exotic water store across the way," he smiled, getting up from the wooden stool. Yuu glared at him, twitching his eyebrow, and aggressively grinding his teeth. "Didn't I just say that," he mumbled to himself. For some reason, this job was the only thing that took away Yuu's cool. That or being attacked by monsters in the dungeons which was rare since he never explored it much. Again someone entered the tavern. This time a young boy, no older than ten. "Hello, I want something to drink," the boy screamed, Yuu covering his ears until the boy shut his wretched pipe. Once he was done, Yuu glared at the boy, redirecting the boy to a sign nearby. "Read this sign, please, young man," he commanded the boy to do before he holstered the sword from his scabbard and sliced his head. The boy looked, squinting in fact as if he couldn't comprehend the words. Yuu sighed, and began wiping down the glass cups. "It says no children allowed," he answered, shaking his head. The boy laughed bravely, grabbing the cup from Yuu's hand. "I'm a pall-" before the boy could finish his statement, the tip of Yuu's sword was at his nose. "If you dare put a spic of dirt on that glass cup, I will end you," Yuu declared, his left eye twitching. The boy, shocked, placed the cup onto the counter, and got up from his seat, running out the tavern. Yuu knew he overreacted but damn he cleaned that cup way too many times today. The residents in the tavern looked at him fearful - the reason he acquired the night shift. Sighing again, he resumed cleaning the cups. "I desperately need someone to help me run this place at night before I accidentally kill someone."
Whilst it seemed that the poor tavern manager was on the brink of a burnout, Djinn, him, was walking down the path that led to Orario City's infamous Slums under the rising moon in the sky, seeming to be relaxed and confident, a face that people around here didn't much bothered to appreciate. The swords that rested within their sheaths on his hips dangled lightly and the crossbow on his back lightly swung in the air as he walk ahead, the leather strips containing it in place thankfully just tight enough to make sure it wouldn't fall onto the street below and cause any form of useless commotion. Well, in all honesty, the only reason why he has decided to come here to the Slugs was because that he wanted to get a proper job so that he could make a living out of the city life now that he wasn't doing any more assassination missions any longer due to the cut ties between himself and his home village in the Kaios Desert. Thankfully, due to a small escort mission he had undertaken for some Orarian Aristocrat quite recently - which also allowed him to take a look at the dungeons where monsters roamed about -, he was able to get some money in return and, now, he could probably himself even a small home here for a rather low-cost. Like that, he won't have to pay for too much and then be stuck in a loop of never-ending debt. Not like he could totally avoid it by settling in this wretched place, but it'll do. However, as he walked around towards what he thought to be the residential areas whilst he referred himself to the vague memories he had of the city's map, one which he had seen in many books that he has read back in his home village -, he instead found himself with a rather populated streets filled with makeshift stores, inns, taverns and what he could only describe as pleasure hotels. In other words, it seemed he had the mischance of somehow ending up in the economical district of the Slums, one which was populated with a lot of thieves, especially during the evening and night. Lightly pouting, the Dark Elf rubbed the back of his head, feeling like complaining aloud, though quickly refrained from doing so. Honestly, there was no point in embarrassing himself in front of all of those people. Now, however, the problem was that he had a lot of spare coins to spend that were, at the moment, resting within his pockets in bags of leather. Judging by the state of the area and how the people seemed to stare at him too, it was clear that he would soon enough be a formidable target for pickpockets. People just disliked outsiders in general when it comes to big cities like these, especially those that come from the Desert and the Far East, and, usually, crime usually follows them around like a bunch of wolves chasing down their prey with no mercy. And honestly, at this point in time, he had no want to cut anyone's hands off their wrists. So, with a slightly annoyed pout on his face, he would stare at the many buildings in front of him, allowing his eyes to stare at them and quickly judge the most favourable to pick out of all the others, then decided to head over to the one that was closest to his position. Heading towards it, though, he found himself forced to stop as he suddenly heard a menacing-sounding voice resonate from behind the door that seemed to threaten somebody in particular, then quickly sidestepping out of the way as he heard footsteps coming from the inside, allowing the child that passed through to run away without any inconvenience. Staring at the boy as he ran away, Djinn blinked, slightly confused by what just happened, then decided to enter the tavern to see for himself. Passing through the door's frame, he stumbled upon a scene which portrayed a tavern rather filled with a respectable number of people stare at an angered-looking bartender with fear in their eyes. The fear that resonated from the atmosphere alone, the tension, was what surprised Djinn out of all of this, making him lift an eyebrow in curiosity. Nonetheless, though, once he heard the bartender's words mention that he needed somebody else for what Djinn understood as a night shift, the Dark Elf comically ran so fast towards the counter that it seemed he downright teleported in front of the bartender, sporting a bright smile on his face. Nevermind if that guy made a kid run away: if the ex-assassin can make some money here, then why the bloody hell not try to work along that guy's mood? "If you need anybody to help you, I'm right here!" The man told the bartender, seeming to buzz with hope and excitement of getting the job. The problem was that he was an outsider, and there was a chance that the Human will refuse him due to the simple fact that he was a Dark Elf. But, again, there was no point in not attempting to get the job; after all, he needed the money. Hell, if he gets the job, maybe he will even be able to use this place as some sort of home just so that he won't have to pay for it too much! Sure, that would probably ask of him to manipulate the bartender in front of him, but it's better to do that than living on the streets. @Yuu DaProd
Prayers Answered!? Wiping down the cups, making sure most of the spic was off of it, another man approached. Sighing, Yuu looked up from cleaning the cup to identify the person as a Dark Elf. The man had a bright smile on his face and he seemed friendly. Hopefully he wasn't like the rest of the wild beast in the tavern; consuming food, leaving messes, and making Yuu's work more difficult. The man wondered if Yuu needed any help, he would assist. Yuu slightly grinned. Had he found the extra help he needed for the night shift? Gently placing the cup he was cleaning onto the counter in front of the man, he whirled around to grab the best alcohol they had, vodka. Placing his hand on the cork, pulling with all his might until it finally popped off. The bottle made a pop sound, alarming most of the guest in the tavern. There he filled the cup up 1/3rd, giving the elf almost nothing to consume since the glass cup was small. "Drink up, you'll need it once you get hired," Yuu said, drinking from the vodka bottle itself. Once he drunk a small amount, he began coughing. He knew he wasn't a drinker but working at the tavern made him drink. Placing the bottle in the back with the other drinks, he wiped his mouth of vodka residue. Hopefully his new acquaintance was finished with his vodka because training was about to begin. "Follow me," Yuu said, waving his hand up and down. Leaving the bar unattended, which wasn't wise due to the criminals and drinkers in the bar, he moved towards the back room. Placing his hand on the knob to enter the back room, he turned it, gently pushing - the door didn't budge. "Why does this always happen, now see rookie, we have a trick for this door since the boss is too greedy to buy a new one," Yuu said, placing his foot at the very bottom and pushing full force. The door then opened, Yuu almost falling on the floor, but luckily he planted his hand into the rug. The room wasn't nothing special and had a desk were the boss sat and two seats infront of the desk including a chalk board. Standing up from his fall, he wiped himself off. "Please take a seat," Yuu said to the elf, walking towards the chalk board. Picking up a piece of chalk, he looked at the elf man. "Prepare for the ultimate talk," he stated, pointing the white chalk at the elf's face. "Now, here at the tavern, we strive to be the greatest tavern in the history of taverns," Yuu said, rubbing his chin. "There will be no tavern greater than our tavern - words from the boss might wanna write that down at least remember it," he ended. After discussing with him about rules and that blabber, he hired Djinn as the head night shift worker. From there, they left the room. Allowing Djinn to exit first, he then closed the door behind himself. Walking side to side with the elf, he looked at him. "I never got your name," Yuu said to him. "I am Yuu, not you, but Yuu, if you understand," he continued, trying to get Djinn to understand his name. "Anywho, what is your name, I need to know it if we're going to be co-workers for now on," he smiled.
Admittedly, Djinn was pretty confused once he realized that the bartender had actually given him a cup of vodka that had, as a primary function, to be drank from. Staring at the cup for a small moment in pure silence, keeping his friendly smile up all this time, he then blinked curiously before he bit his lip. Yikes... Was he really going to need to drink stuff like this in order to attain this job? Sure, it will indeed gain him some money, but he has never really been a fan of alcohol: after all, the stuff always left him a bit dizzy and he never found the liquids' tastes to be remotely close to being appreciable. Though the cup was small indeed compared to the bottle the bartender was drinking from, the Dark Elf very much doubted that he was going to enjoy drinking its content. However, a task was a task, and it seemed he had no real choice but to do so given that he was now going to work in a place where alcohol is most dominant. Taking the cup with one hand, the swordsman stared at it some more, his eyes suspicious and his smile now replaced with an expression that seemed to verge towards worry, before he suddenly took the cup and brought it to his lips, gulping the liquid in one shot. Needless to say, it was not a really good idea as, frozen, the Dark Elf contemplated the ceiling before gulping the liquid as painfully slowly as possible while it traversed his throat. He then coughed almost at the same time as the bartender did, putting one arm in front of his mouth as he did so, then took a deep breath before staring at the cup, cringing, then putting it back on the counter. Now that was not a moment he particularly enjoyed and neither was it an experience he wanted to live through yet again, at least for now. Once the bartender told him to follow him towards the back room of the building, Djinn hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should do so. Though this place did not really seemed too dangerous in appearance, the slums - especially during the night - are filled with various kinds of criminals. If they leave the room unattended, thieves might take this as a chance to steal some of the alcohol in order to sell it to the black market, especially the drinks that are the rarest. Knowing he had no real voice on this decision, however, the Dark Elf simply followed the Human towards the back room, deadpanning during the whole ordeal with the door, almost convinced that maybe coming here to get a job wasn't the brightest idea he ever had in mind. Ensued a lot of talk that could have been ignored about a lot of things Djinn did not really had any interest in - at least for now -, though he still made sure to listen as attentively as possible to be able to remember the most of the details he can possibly recall. Quite thankfully, such a long list of things to remember will not be written in this post for fear of possibly writing too much and, after a while of listening to things he had not much care for, the Dark Elf was almost feeling dizzy, his eyes having become nothing but little spinning spirals as his head dangled from left to right. He was so dizzy, in fact, that he had been almost unable to leave the room, rubbing his temples and shaking his head as quickly as possible to gain back a little bit more consciousness. Now apparently promoted to head night shift worker, Djinn followed the bartender outside of the back room, then stretched himself casually as he prepared himself for the incoming duties that he was going to be given, knowing that he will now have to work hard to gain more money out of the world's pockets. However, of course, both he and the bartender had to know their names to go on, and so the latter would present himself first as Yuu, precising that, no, it wasn't pronounced as "You", but "Yuu". Smirking as he understood the reference, the Dark Elf stared at the bartender, then presented himself in return: "My name's Djinn. Djinn Cross. Nice to meet you!"
