Preface

Magic is not common in the world of Terrasphere – the majority of people do not have access to it. Below are the four most common types of magic users.

  • Magus These people are born with latent magical power and can often express magic naturally. Rather than learning magic, they feel it.
  • Wizard These people are born with little to no magic and have to study it extensively to be able to use magic. Spellcasting often requires a large amount of memorization and practice.
  • Devout These people receive magic from other worldly beings, divine or not. Instead of reciting incantation, they offer prayers. It still requires energy to cast spells, however.
  • Commoner These people have no magic and can only cast spells because something else is enabling them to do so. This can be magical beings or items.

Spellcasting

Spellcasting requires an incantation specific to the spell being recited or written in the air. Powerful spells take longer to channel and consume more energy. Injuries or other distractions may interrupt the spell being cast. There are two methods of casting spells in Terrasphere.

  • Assist Mode In this mode, the user can simply swipe their hand in any direction to bring up a panel with available spells. Selecting a spell will cause the user to automatically recite the spell. Once a spell is completed, the game will assist the user in aiming in order to reduce the chance of missing. It is not possible to combine spells using this mode.
  • Free Mode In this mode, the user must memorize the incantation of their spell and pronounce every word correctly or the spell will not be cast. Once the spell is completed, the user will have to aim using their own skills. This mode allows the user to quickly cancel their spell, switch to another one, or weave it into other attacks seamlessly.

Miscellaneous

Energy Spellcasting consumes a great deal of energy (NPCs refer to it as mana). Given that the energy to cast spells is the same as stamina, spellcasters should avoid doing physical activities while performing magic.

Mind Down When a user's energy level reaches zero, they will fall unconscious until their energy recovers 10%. During this time, the user will be vulnerable to attacks.

Growth

Beginner You have about 1 or 2 useful spells that you struggle to control.
Novice Your insignificant spell now actually hurt a little. You can kind of levitate things and cast other utility spells that all magic pratitioners are supposed to know.
Trained You have a set of spells that you use regularly and can use them effectively, although, your energy efficiency isn't quite up to par.
Proficient You are starting to get the whole concept of magic now and can cast spells competently. You are now starting to explore the more complicated spells.
Adept Complicated spells aren't so bad for you now. You can cast some of the big spells and continue to power up your previously simple set of spells.
Expert You are now a very capable spellcaster who can use both simple and complex spells without a problem. You have learned to manage your energy effectively, making it easier and less costly to cast smaller spells.
Mastered You have mastered your craft and can now cast two different spells simultaneously without exploding.
