Preface

Magic is not common in the world of Terrasphere. The majority of people do not have access to it.

Spellcasting

Spellcasting requires an incantation specific to the spell be recited or written in the air. Powerful spells take longer to channel and consume more energy. Injury or other distraction may interrupt spellcasting. There are two methods to cast spells in TS.

  • Swipe your hand in a direction to bring up a panel with your available spells. Tap on the spell and your character will begin reciting or drawing
  • The player can also memorize the oral incantation or the written version themselves and manually cast the spell that way

Mana

Spellcasting consumes energy (NPCs call it mana), which is the same as stamina in the game. Players should avoid depleting their energy bar, because a Mind Down will be triggered.

Mind Down is a state where the user will fall unconscious until energy recovers (if energy is fully depleted, it will take longer to recover naturally). Given this, physical fighters who use magic at the same time must carefully manage their energy.

Progression

Beginner You have about 1 or 2 useful spells that you struggle to control.
Novice Your insignificant spell now actually hurt a little. You can kind of levitate things and cast other utility spells that all magic pratitioners are supposed to know.
Trained You have a set of spells that you use regularly and can use them effectively, although, your energy efficiency isn't quite up to par.
Proficient You are starting to get the whole concept of magic now and can cast spells competently. You are now starting to explore the more complicated spells.
Adept Complicated spells aren't so bad for you now. You can cast some of the big spells and continue to power up your previously simple set of spells.
Expert You are now a very capable spellcaster who can use both simple and complex spells without a problem. You have learned to manage your energy effectively, making it easier and less costly to cast smaller spells.
Mastered You have mastered your craft and can now cast two different spells simultaneously without exploding.

Magical Instruments

If you have a standard magic mastery, you are able to use any of the magical instruments below. Although they all differ in theme and function, these tools all make your spellcasting more efficient. The various effects described are mostly for roleplay, however.

Rod (One-handed) Rod-like items such as wand, branch, etc. Rods often contain "Cantrips," which are weak spells that cost little energy to use.
Focus (One-handed) Embellished items such as chakram, idol, skull, ceremonial dagger, effigy, icon, etc. As its name suggest, focus improves the user's concentration during spellcasting.
Spell Ring (One-handed) These rings are worn on the dominant hand, which allows the user to write the spells instead of reciting the incantation. The written spell will appear as glowing words that float in thin air before the spell is cast.
Rune Stone (One-handed) These are made with a variety of stone or cystal. The rune stone will float alongside the user, helping them cast spells. Rune stones allow the user to insribe runes onto surfaces, which can be activated from a distance.
Charms (One-handed) A set of three flat-surface magic papers float along with you. Since charms are expendable, they improve the user's energy management./td>
Grimoire (One or two-handed) These spellbooks range from small and light to large and heavy. The advantage of wielding a grimoire comes from the fact that they contain a large number of spells, which improves the user's spellcasting speed.
Staff (Two-handed) Long and slender scepters that are often full of ornaments or magical energy. These staff are too flimsy to be used for physical combat. (Flavor) Staff often empowers spell that take a long time to cast since it acts as an energy absorber, drawing in mana from its surroundings.
Tarot Cards (Two-handed) To cast spells with tarot cards, you must shuffle the deck and pull these cards out and arrange them in the air (they float) in a particular pattern before the spell materializes. Optionally, you may also pull out a card to cast a random spell, this is the fastest way to cast a spell. Think Astrologian from FFXIV.
