Morality
Players are free to do anything they want in-game. Some may join groups of bandits to kill and pillage, while others try to defend the innocent. The game does not confine players to lawful activities. However, all actions in the game – be it good or evil – have consequences.
Regular RPs
Members can create open or private threads and freeform roleplay on their own. Staff will never interfere with regular roleplaying threads unless they violate the rules of the site.
Quests
Quest are structured roleplaying threads with a specific storyline or clear objectives.
- Quests can be found in the Quests board.
- These quests do not have a dungeon master (DM) to affect the story.
Events
Story Events
Terrasphere has an official storyline, which is told through story events run by dungeon Masters (DM).These events are often for everyone, which means that you do not need to sign up to join and may join at any point during the event as long as you catch up on the events that has happened thus far via story trackers, which are made so you can quickly catch up on DM posts.
Story events are very special and tend to run anywhere from a few days up to 2 weeks. They are formatted so they are short and can end in a timely manner. Since story events can feature anywhere from 10 to 40 real RPers in a single thread, you don't have to read every single reply except those that pertain to your character.
Although you are not required to post every single day in an event, the story progresses quickly, so it is a good idea to dedicate some time in your day to keep up with it! This is one of Terrasphere most unique feature so be sure to check it out!
Monthly Events
These events happen every month, which will involve you actually roleplaying your character. Unlike regular roleplaying, you are not required to post for the entire event and can hop in and out whenever you would like. These events are primarily hosted so you can earn special rewards either through wits or luck.
Contests
Contests happen fairly often on Terrasphere. These can be anything from advertisement to world building to story writing. Check the announcement with the tag (Contest) for more details.
DM Challenges
DM Challenges are adventures run by a dungeon master (DM), who plays as the "world". The DM has full control over the story, NPCs, and monsters. When the member engages in combat or interacts with important NPCs, the outcome of all actions are decided with dice rolls or by the DM.
DM Challenges often require you to reply daily, if you sign up for a challenge, please make sure you can dedicate the time and effort to keep up with the thread.
- All challenges are death-enabled unless stated otherwise.
- Expect dice and rolling system to be used in DM challenges.
- Most DM challenges take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks.
- Each DM have their own style, rules, and expectation.
- It is recommended for you to read the profile of the DM who is running the challenge you are signing up for to see if you would like them or not.
- It is recommended that you keep a clear line of communication with your DM and party members.
- All DM challenges get their own Discord channel, allowing you to discuss things with your party members.
Sign-up
To sign-up for a DM challenge, all you have to do is to post in the DM LFG (Dungeon Master Looking for Group) thread in the Group Finder forum.
All DM challenges go by the first-come first-serve rule. However, you must meet the qualifications detailed in the thread. Even if the sign-up appears to be full with no DM confirming the roster, we recommend you post in it anyways, in case one of the members is not qualified or drop out for some reason.
DM Spice
If you would like extra story direction or twist in your RP, you can request a DM to intercept your thread here. Please read the rules carefully!
Member Dice System
As members, you cannot come up with your own dice system to use in your thread because you do not have the authority to exclusively play as monsters and deal damage to other people (unlike DM). As such, if you would like to add some dice play to your thread, you can use this basic system below.
Keep in mind that all dice rolls are optional, you cannot impose dice on your RP partners so make sure to ask them before implementing dice in your RP.
To begin, make a thread here with the same title as your RP thread but add "(Roll)" before the name. Then, use one of the systems below.
Combat
Roll d100 [dice]d100[/dice] in your RP thread and add the modifier of the mastery you are using to fight with. +5 per mastery tier excluding beginner, mastered tier gets +10 instead. Look at the result after you combine your roll and your modifier and compare with the chart below.
1-29 | Failure: Your action or attack is ineffective. |
30-79 | Partial Success: Your action or attack succeeds, but put yourself and your teammate in further danger. Something detrimental to the group might happen. |
80-100 | Great Success: Your action or attack succeeds at no consequence to you. |
To increase the difficulty, add 5, 10, or 15 to the second number for each of the category.
Difficulty Check
Follow the step above roll d100 and add modifier to it. This is mainly for when you want to check your skill to see if you can do something or for an action you are not confident will work. Do not use a difficulty check (DC) for actions that your character can easily do.
Talk to your partner and determine a proper DC to meet depending on the difficulty of the task.
Example: If disarming a trap has DC 50, it means you have to have a result (roll + mod) of 50 or higher to succeed at it.
1-34 | Easy |
35-64 | Average |
65-84 | Hard |
85-99 | Very hard |
100+ | Extremely difficult |
