The Flame Cultists
A guild of magic practitioners known as the Ynglar Brotherhood, have been receiving news of a strange cult mobilizing in the blighted region of Norforva. Busy with other mysterious arcane activities, they asked the players to investigate the cult and find information about what they were working towards. Unfortunately, the players did not manage to divine their intentions in time to stop them from carrying out their plan.
The Ynglar Brotherhood issued a summons to all players to a temple of the goddess Idna that rested on the slope of an inactive volcano. They intended to summon Azog, a Fire Elemental prince. Though the players managed to defeat the cultists, they were not quick enough to avert Azog's summoning, which ruined the temple and set the surroundings ablaze.
Azog's Rage
It was a long slog of a fight, as the players could not defeat Azog permanently, unless they were in possession of a sacred artifact of Idna's. Further complications arose as Azog summoned minions from the Fire Plane to occupy players while he recovered energy, he started causing the lava in the volcano to rise which threatened all the players fighting, and giant magma gorillas leapt onto the precarious platforms that the players were standing on to try and pull them to their deaths. And if Azog grew too damaged, he would enter a state of berserker rage that would almost certainly spell doom for not only the players, but all of Terrasphere.
Idna's Relic
In order to fully eliminate Azog, the Ynglar Brotherhood opened up a rift to the Fire Plane to find the shards of Idna's orb. Only a select few were able to pass through. Past the rift, the players who were able to enter found themselves near an ornate temple. Going through, they found a cultist named Ivan locked in what appeared to be a prison, left to die as a sacrifice for summoning Azog's minions. He was saved and healed by one of the party, and in gratitude, he revealed to them where the shards of Idna's orb was kept.
When they found them, the party was catch a glimpse of a vision into the past, which detailed the history between Azog and Idna. They were wedded in an arranged marriage to mend the peace between the Elementals and the Elysid court. But Idna's followers grew concerned over the fact that Idna would neglect her duties to the mortal realm in favor of her and Azog's daughter Anumora, so they began influencing Azog's mind, making him think that his daughter would one day usurp him as a lord of the Fire Plane. In his paranoia, he put a frostcore into Anumora's chest, one of the few ways of permanently killing a Fire Elemental with royal bloodline.
Putting the shards of the orb together, they recovered the artifact. But destroying Azog would not be so simple. The orb would need to be fused with a person in order to work, and whoever fused with the core would have to sacrifice themselves by jumping into Azog's core. A player named Eleanor Loan volunteered.
Heroes' Return
Back out of the Fire Plane, the players keeping Azog at bay were given permission to go all out, to weaken Azog further. Two other players jointly dealt the finishing blow, tearing open his body until it exposed the core. It was time for Eleanor to act. She had time for one last moment of reflection. And then, she leapt.
In a blinding flash of light, Azog was destroyed. His entire body iced over, head to toe. In the heat of the volcano, he began crumbling, necessitating a panicked rescue mission from players on the ground and the Ynglar Brotherhood providing support from the air. Azog was vanquished, destroyed utterly by Eleanor's sacrifice.
Eleanor awoke in a strange, dreamlike state. She was not in a temple nor at the morgue, where most players woke up upon dying. Instead, she was in a grand hall, more beautiful and mystical than anything she had ever seen in her life. She was approached by a cloaked figure, who revealed herself to be none other than Idna.
Due to Eleanor's willingness to sacrifice herself for the sake of others, Idna offered to answer a single question, any question at all that Eleanor could have. As Idna answered Eleanor's question, the goddess addressed her by her real-life name, Niko Ebb.
And that was that. Unable to cling onto consciousness for much longer, Eleanor passed out, next waking in a temple of Idna. She was not left wholly unharmed, left with a lingering condition as a result of her death, similar to the malady that afflicted Idna.
Victory
As for the rest, the Ynglar Brotherhood brought them to Pelham Springs in Norforva to celebrate their victory, and for a well-deserved period of rest.
